A man lies dying in a hospital in upstate Vermont. The nurses know only that he is an academic at a nearby university, but they have been instructed to call the FBI should anyone visit their patient.
News of this suspected Russian illegal soon reaches MI5, where Liz Carlyle has been contacted by Mischa, a top secret source who is requesting a clandestine rendezvous in Berlin.

Voice Quality
I found the voice of the person reading the book was too high pitched. This made the conversations between women sound rather sing song which detracted from the quality. Liz

A Bore
I was so happy to get this next book in the series that was vastly disappointed. The story was boring and I struggled to continue listening.

Very slow narration
I loved this book but found the narration painfully slow, I'm sure it could have been finished in 6 hours rather than 10hours! Love Stella Rimington books, but perhaps I'll stick to reading them.

Believable and compelling
A compelling and enjoyable story. The narrator was able to give each character their own voice to such an extent that t at times it seemed as though there could have been several people reading the story. I will definitely search for more books in this series. A really absorbing listen.

enjoyable enough
quite enjoyable, but seems so lightweight from someone with real world security service experience

Pleasant enough but was hoping for more thrill
Easy listen, interesting plot but lacking in drama. First one I've listened to by this author

Narrated brilliantly. Climax of Storyline disappointed
Brilliantly narrated - enjoyed all the different character narrations. Story built up intrigue but was difficult to follow at times with bouncing around of different locations / people. Then the conclusions quickly came without any real major developments or surprises which disappointed. There was no real ending as such or reason to the plot. Overall though enjoyed it but just came away feeling ending was really rushed

Hopefully real spying is slightly more interesting
If this is what working for the security services is like and word gets out they will soon face a recruitment and retention crisis. I came into the series here, at number 10, thinking someone who hasn’t spent years been an author might need a few books to warm up, but this was just plodding and predictable with a scooby doo style wrap up and explanation at the end. It might be that other books in the series are better, but this wasn’t really worth the time spent (I did listen all the way through, thinking it’d pick up, but it never did).
