Publisher's Summary

Hercule Poirot returns in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, the “best crime novel of all time” (British Crime Writers’ Association).

When Roger Ackroyd is found dead in his study the day after his fiancée’s unexpected suicide, the illustrious detective Hercule Poirot comes out of retirement to take on the complicated case. Only a handful of close friends and family saw Roger Ackroyd the day he died, but almost all have solid alibis and were seemingly nowhere near him at his time of death.

But as Poirot’s investigation uncovers new details, the suspects’ alibis begin to unravel, and nearly everyone reveals themselves to have ample motive and opportunity to be the culprit. Was it for his money? For revenge? For keeping dangerous secrets hidden? Only one of the untrustworthy parties can be the real killer, and it is up to Poirot to sort through every clue and red herring to find the truth of who killed Roger Ackroyd.

Filled with shocking twists and subtle clues that will keep listeners guessing until the very end, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is one of Agatha Christie’s finest stories, and it remains a cornerstone of the mystery genre to this day.

Who doesn't like Agatha? Not me!

Difficult time with the Narrator. Hard to compete against Hugh Fraser, but substantial rendition.

A good story spoiled by bad narration

I love Agatha Christie's books, and was really looking forward to listening to this one.
The narration, however, is really poor. Over enunciated speech, dreadful Poirot accent, something between a 'Allo Allo French / Mexican accent with a bit of alcohol thrown in (Poirot pronounced Poyrow), and elderly men all sounding like the dog that said "Sausages" years ago crossed with the Churchill bulldog and in some cases totally indecipherable!
Then there's the editing, where pauses have been cut out, so one sentence immediately continues after another with no break.
I've given up with this version and downloaded another narrated by Hugh Fraser, which should be much better!

Narrator delivery dire

Sadly, although I did finish listening to this story whilst on a long journey, I found the narrator to be irritating with poor cadence, terrible accents, and unbelievable delivery which made the book very difficult to engage with - preferable to driving without a story, but only just.

Couldn’t finish it

This was quite awful. The narrator was wooden, his delivery of the different female characters was identical - rasping and harsh. I couldn’t understand what the Colonel was saying. There were numerous mispronunciations. I could t bear it and so didn’t finish listening.

The worst Audible book by far.

Dreadful naration.

Gave up soon into listening. I am so dissapointed by Audible and that I have used my credit on such a poorly narated Aretha Christie. Men's voices were bad enough but I feel the women's voices were ridiculous. Please rethink this audiobook!!
