Publisher's Summary

The Murders at Fleat House is a suspenseful and utterly compelling crime novel from the author of the multimillion-selling The Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley.

The sudden death of a pupil in Fleat House at St Stephen’s—a small private boarding school in deepest Norfolk—is a shocking event that the headmaster is very keen to call a tragic accident.

But the local police cannot rule out foul play and the case prompts the return of high-flying Detective Inspector Jazmine ‘Jazz’ Hunter to the force. Jazz has her own private reasons for stepping away from her police career in London, and reluctantly agrees to front the investigation as a favour to her old boss.

Reunited with her loyal sergeant Alastair Miles, she enters the closed world of the school, and as Jazz begins to probe the circumstances surrounding Charlie Cavendish’s tragic death, events are soon to take another troubling turn.

Charlie is exposed as an arrogant bully, and those around him had both motive and opportunity to switch the drugs he took daily to control his epilepsy.

As staff at the school close ranks, the disappearance of young pupil Rory Millar and the death of an elderly classics master provide Jazz with important leads, but are destined to complicate the investigation further. As snow covers the landscape and another suspect goes missing, Jazz must also confront her personal demons....

Then, a particularly grim discovery at the school makes this the most challenging murder investigation of her career. Because Fleat House hides secrets darker than even Jazz could ever have imagined....

Boring

I struggled to finish this book and was waiting for it to get a bit more on track with Lucindas usual writing style.
I really did not enjoy the narrator, voice was monotonous and not pleasant to listen to.

Loved this story. Listened to it while I gymed, worked, and cleaned. Kept me in suspense the whole way. What a loss to this world, she was the BEST author ever.

Another gem by Lucinda Riley

Loved every second of this book, the storyline ad well as the narration. Even though I usually don't like mysteries, I'm a huge Lucinda Riley fan and couldn't miss her final book. It's very different to her other books, but gripping and thoroughly enjoyable. So tragic that she's gone.

Fabulous!

I loved this amazing book, and am so sorry Lucinda is no longer around to continue writing what I would love to have become a series of Books featuring the same team.

Absolutely Fantastic

This book is Soo gripping. I hope it would be turned into a series with either Gemma Whelan or Vicky Mclure as Jaz. It's a real shame there's no follow up book.

Great story and excellent narration

Having read all of Lucinda Riley’s other books, this was the last one left on my list. I wasn’t certain what to expect as it is, in some ways, quite a different concept from her other novels. However, I really enjoyed it. In my opinion, a great story with strong characterisation and excellent narration.

Superb in every way.

Realistic characters, interesting plot, clever reveals, and narrated by one of the best.
I wish this could have been a many book series but the author was taken far too soon.

Good story, Awful narration

I don’t recommend listening to this - read it. I chose this title based on my love for Gemma Whelan as actress, & because I know I enjoy the sound of her voice, but this narration is a mess. Call me biased, but I’m blaming the director.

The rhythm & tone were always wrong. There wasn’t enough distinction between a lot of character voices. The protagonist was often flat & monotone. Her Australian accent was a very heavy New Zealand accent, & her Irish accent was so bad I could barely stand to hear it. It made for a distracting listening experience.

I liked the mystery, although the story stalled at times & verged on boring. That mainly had to do with branches of personal drama for the protagonist, unrelated to the central plot.

The motive & reveal was well done, I think. I was interested to hear this was the author’s sole title in the crime genre because she crafted that element so well.

Wishing this was a series!

As a lover of murder mystery type novels this one was on par! The characters, relationships and plot line well developed and easy to follow but not predictable. Shame there’s no more…I could really like to follow these characters and see what comes of them.

Great storyline

I enjoyed Lucinda Reilly’s book. A whodunnit thriller with lots of sub plots keeps the reader engrossed
Unfortunately I found the narrators monotone voice annoying and at times hard to follow who was saying what . Otherwise a great story to get lost in

Absolutely wonderful!

This book had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It's such a shame that there will be no more detective novels from this late author. I can't recommend this book enough!
The narrator, Gemma Whelan, reads it beautifully and there are lots of twists and turns to keep the reader interested. I think it's a book that will stay with me for quite a while. Very believable.
I now look forward to listening to other books by the late Lucinda Riley.
