Nicholas Flamel appeared in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter - but did you know he really lived? And his secrets aren't safe! Discover the truth in book four of the New York Times best-selling series the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.

The belief: Sophie and Josh are the twins of prophecy. The reality: Nicholas Flamel has been wrong before.

Sophie and Josh Newman are finally home, but they're both more confused than ever about their futures.

Neither of them has mastered the elemental magics they'll need to protect themselves from the Dark Elders, they've lost Scatty, Macchiavelli is coming to unleash on their city the menagerie of monsters imprisoned in Alcatraz, and they're still being pursued by Dr. John Dee. building, Building, BULIDING - Can't wait!

This novel intensifies your feeling for the characters. By the end of this book you have so much invested in the story that you want to know the end; but are starting to mourn that there are only two more novels. This is the 2/3 point in the series. Be prepared for heartbreak and surprise – who is who. The strands of the base story complicate in this installment leaving you unsure of what twists and turns lay ahead -- excellent. There are storms brewing on every front, elder and immortals and on the side of good and the side of evil. You’ll have some big questions at the end of this one for sure.

Josh Newman's insecurity is utterly annoying

Josh Newman's insecurity is utterly annoying. I find myself loving the story less and less because of this character.

Good, but needlessly frustrating!

I actually enjoy this series(despite the narrator who everyone rags on). It is an enjoyable listen, but it is necessary to note that the plot is a bit predictable at some points and ridiculous at others. It isn't that the twins shouldn't show mistrust of the flamel's, it's just that the level of distrust seems overly dramatized, and needlessly heightened to no foreseeable resolution. Anywho, there I leave you with a brief two cents

Performance

The story was very good but the performance needs work. You can hear the narrator licking his lips and his lips smacking!

Repetative

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. So much of this story is just explaining what happened in the first 3 books. I started out really enjoying this series but I don't think I'm going to listen to any more of them after this book. I'm so bored of everything being re-explained. Getting new readers of a series up to speed has been done much better in other YA books.

Has The Necromancer turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Did Paul Boehmer do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He does great voices/accents for many of the male characters. Like most male narrators he doesn't do a great job for the female characters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

More of the Same

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I'd say that listening to this book was a necessary evil. When I started listening to this series, I was excited by the storyline and the characters, but at this point, I'm just listening because I hate not finishing a book series. I think that a three-book storyline has been painfully stretched over the course of six books. The entire story of The Necromancer takes place in about a day and a half, and very little happens plot-wise. The Flamels still only have weeks to live, Josh and Sophie continue to question who they can trust, and there is still an army of monsters waiting to be released on Alcatraz. In an effort to be fast-paced and exciting, Michael Scott jumps from storyline to storyline and POV, but so little happens in each chapter that it slows the already slow story down even more. It would've been better had he just stuck with a few central characters and really worked on developing them and their stories. Instead it was a mental juggling act in my brain trying to remember what was happening in each side story and how all the characters were connected. He spent so little time with each character that I didn't feel a connection with any of them. And the personalities of the characters seemed to change depending on the point of view, which also frustrated me. No one was consistent, not even Josh or Sophie. And with the way The Necromancer finishes, it just seems that the jumping storylines will only increase in the next installment. So, if you're like me and you're committed to this series, good or bad, then you'll just have to push your way through. But if you're on the fence as to whether or not to continue, at this point, I would say to drop it, or just skip to the final book in the series because you're not missing much in this one.

Really enjoyed the 1st 3 books of series but...

I love a good series but the story line is becoming repetative. The story needs to end! Will wait to see a final book before I spend any more time on this series. Looks like 5 is not the end. Please, Please let 6 wrap it up or don't bother to start!

Excellent Story

A wonderful continuance in the series, couldn't put it down.
The story continues to draw you into Scott's world and the story of Josh and Sophie.
