Publisher's Summary

For anyone who is dating or thinking about marriage - practical, uncensored wisdom on avoiding mistakes in the present to help avoid issues in the future.

Single? Looking for the "right person"? Thinking that if you met the "right person" everything would turn out "right"? Think again.

In The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating, pastor and best-selling author Andy Stanley explores the challenges, assumptions, and land mines associated with dating in the 21st century. Not for the faint of heart, this practical and uncensored guide takes a fresh approach to dating and love in the modern era by turning the search for "the one" or "Mr./Mrs. Right" back onto the searcher themselves, challenging you to ask yourself tough questions, like:

  • Am I the person the person I'm looking for is looking for?
  • Are the Bible's teachings about women relevant today?
  • If sex is only physical, why is the pain of sexual sin so deep?

As you dig deep into your answers, you'll be equipped and empowered to step up and set a new standard for this generation by exposing the things that create trouble in dating relationships and creating better habits now that pay off when you get married.

In addition, The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating:

  • Unveils what God says will lead to success in dating and marriage
  • Transforms guys' ways of thinking about women
  • Reveals common myths about sex outside of marriage
  • Prepares men and women to one day say "I do" and mean it
  • ...and much more!

Also includes a four-session small-group discussion guide to be used with The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating video (sold separately).

No-Nonsense Honesty, with a True Biblical Wisdom!

I really appreciated Andy's honesty and his assessment of the different mindsets of men and women and how culture and the world can lead us astray. This book taught me to examine myself and my patterns of behavior and motivated me to exchange bad choices for biblical ones, as it pertains to relationships. I highly recommend this book!

To those upset the book uses Jesus as a standard

I read the one stars, and they are quite unified. The book is trash the moment you realize it doesn't completely trash Jesus' example and standards for Love. That is the antithesis to logic, reason, Atheism as a whole: to trash something because of the preconceived rather than the learned, reviewed and researched. Is this book going to challenge your pre-existing views, drag in Christian values that you may not think are the standard? Sure. Does the author do it in a respectful, suggestive, religious-free way? Hell yes. If this impeccable attempt at sliding what is agreeable from a belief system into the every day person's life isn't good enough, you're dragging a filter in yourself, rather than an objective view. Here's why your filter needs to be trashed, or put on a shelf for a year: you searched for dating advice books. Your existing data, filters, applications, are not working and you are looking for help. What you've thought was good advice in the past, was in fact not. Your thinker is broken. That's a major theme in this challenge. After applying what some call "common knowledge" from the book, and being more than half way through the one year challenge described at the end of the book, I have to say the results so far are remarkable. It's been the hardest time, and the most fruitful time of my life. I've taken breaks from dating before, but not with the Stanley's viewpoints in mind. I hope people set aside their existing, failing wisdom and take a chance. A one year chance. It's been so remarkable, I don't think I'll date someone who hasn't taken the challenge.

I wish Andy himself would have narrated the book.

But, Stu did a great job. The book was wonderful and full of great info. It really made me think. Even if u don't think u can commit to the one year plan, it's an amazing learning tool. As a mom, it also gave me some great advice to pass on. Things I wish I was told, and things I wish someone would have told the boys I had dated. And if u don't like it, as Andy wrote himself, there's always ebay lol.

Save your Credit

Would you try another book from Andy Stanley and/or Stu Gray?

No I would not. Andy Stanley is a poor bible teacher who as the book of Jude would say "preaches what their itching ears want to hear"

What could Andy Stanley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Used a little bit more scripture.

Great Book

While this is a great book, there were some things that I can not and will not adhere to. Knowing that this isn't the Bible allows me to not follow everything the author has said. At the end of the book, I really liked how the author pointed some things out and made me say "ouch" because it related to me so much.

Dangerous

I digged into the first few chapters of this book and was amazed it was written by a pastor. The introduction and first chapter made no reference to Christ.

I've never read such a book which I felt so angered by. It's misleading and in many ways, just wrong.

Don't buy this book.
