The audio of a DVD lecture series

This is a series of video lectures that were released as audio. They are on sites in Israel for parts of them but you can’t see what they are talking about. And there are section that were recorded outside that are not very good audio.

There is some good content here. But also this does not seem well designed. There are short talks more than lectures. Many of them 5-10 minutes.

I have not read the big book that they are based on yet but this does not seem in any way equivalent. And splitting these into two makes sense if this was the whole of a 800-900 page book. But this is actually 12 hours of talking, stripped from the video, and split into two parts so you have to pay twice to get the whole thing.

Great Material, Puzzling Audio

The content is excellent, but several of the audio recordings have a disappointing quality.

Bad Audio Quality

The content is great. The arrangement is clear. The audio/production quality (at least in parts) is abysmal. I expected better audio mastering by an Audible production.

Rehash of NT Wright

This is very surface level if you’re at all familiar with NT Wright’s other work. I very much enjoy his scholarship but this was like a high-level overview without anything new to offer. I regret spending point on this.

Insightful and Focused Guide

I am always interested in N.T. Wright and this is typically excellent. Just as the title suggests, this audiobook frames the New Testament within the context of its contemporary culture and history, producing consistently useful insights. I particularly enjoyed the different ways in which the authors engaged with the accounts and implications of Jesus’ resurrection. The lecture format is engaging and the chapters are focused and listenable. I found ample opportunities for reflection and would highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys thinking about their faith.

Volume too low!

For some reason all titles by Zondervan have very low volume, except when Audible adds their 2 second spot, then it's too loud!
Frustrating. They should have equalized the audio properly before releasing.

N.T talks to friend

The first part is boring, the rest is mediocre N.T., The background noise and bad audio are not helping the retelling of the stories NT and friend talk over each other about. Save your time the N.T Wright books before are way better. I won't even try the second part unless someone guarantees new material and clear audio with no background of a city cafe,

Resurrection seen with new freshness

Loved the understanding of the Jewish, Greek, and Roman worlds, and how they impacted the early church. This book helped me to see afresh the resurrection of Jesus. It expanded what I knew of the magnitude of the resurrection in the lives of early Christians and changed my own view of its importance.

Fantastic Summary

Fantastic summary of the central tenets of the New Testament. Well researched and thought out. The message of Jesus as seen through the eyes of the first Christians.

I just wish it had been NT Wright only speaking...

Fantastic content, a remarkable book, but I wish Michael Bird hadn’t t narrated much of it. He’s a globally respected academic - but his awful Strine accent ruins his presentations.

Tom Wright

Tom Wright is an excellent speaker and writer. Superbly qualified, he presents his material in an excellent way - academically accurate but accessible. His exposition of the scriptures is illuminating of the 1st century and helpful for 21st century understanding.

Refreshing and interesting

As an avid audio book reader there is few things as delightful as these audio lectures for a change. They are concise to the point, and hearing the author of these books give lectures rather than having a voice actor read a book feels quite refreshing.

Academic books of this sort can often feel overwhelming to hear, rather than read. Yet the clear-cut approach of the audio lectures allows the main ideas to come forward in a simpler fashion.

There are some noise in the audio as this was recorded in what I think is the Mediterranean world. However for the most part it’s clear, and crisp. Though if you are used to the staleness of a perfect recording studio the noise might come as a delightful surprise too.

Excellent Resource

As some one who is knew to studying the scriptures despite being brought up in the Christian church, I found this very useful. It was easy to understand and follow and provided both historical and practical insights into the Gospels. I will definitely reread this.
It has made my study of the New Testament a lot clearer. For beginners, I would highly recommend this resource.

Excellent study

Really helpful and enjoyable study, gained a lot of insight and looking forward to part two.
Only downside was that quite a bit of the input was a copy of the lectures in ‘The New Testament you never knew’ which I’d listened to last month.

Great to listen to

Loved this book. Its so good to listens to and hear the context to the new testament. I get one persons review about the market place but you can still hear and i think it adds to the context of where they are speaking about.

Fantastic

This was the perfect nite cap for me, I love going to bed, lying in darkness listening to words about God. Greater things, beautiful things, powerful truths. Both authors of this work were captivating and easy to follow. Thank you very much for this work.

Really Enjoyed this Book

It is well layered and break down of the Resurrection of Jesus, and the start of New Testament.
