Publisher's Summary

You've heard this story before: a guy supposedly kills himself, but his best friend can't accept it. He calls in an investigator he knows to take a second look, certain there's more going on.

I'm the investigator. Secret Service Agent Sean Avery. The guy who called me? My ex, Vice President Jonathan Sharp. And the guy he doesn't believe put a bullet in his brain?

That was President Steven Baker.

The deeper I dig, the more things fall apart. I've got a dead president inside a locked room. A hidden note. A secret gun. A missing CIA officer.

And no one I can trust.

Now Jonathan's in the crosshairs, and if I don't figure out what really happened that night at Camp David, the love of my life might be the next president to die.

This M/M romantic suspense features smoldering forbidden love and a May/December second chance romance that ignites.

Love this Book!! Narrator.....NOPE!

I've read this book twice on Kindle and absolutely loved it. I admit I made a suggestion to Mr. Bauer on who I believed would do this book justice in narrating. Well, we got Mr. Solo...again. He was soooooo over the top I had to stop listening several times. It was laughable. Mr. Bauer is a wonderful writer, but jeez take a walk on the wild side and use a different narrator. Christian Fox, Aaron Sherlock, Troy Duran, Sean Crisden, Teddy Hamilton, Jacob Morgan, Kirt Graves and my fav. JF Harding. Anyone of these men would have knocked this book out of the park.

Alpha Male On Estrogen

When I read the synopsis I thought it sounded like a great thriller BUT: The protagonist Alpha Male spent as much of the book as I could take talking out his insecure feeling. The thriller took a backseat to simpering whining watered down sex scenes that were less about man on man sex then the Alpha’s feelings. An Alpha being torn over feelings is true fiction. An alpha leaves feelings to their submissives and subordinates. Key prefix there is “sub”. When it came to the unbelievable discussion about a “Safe Word “ I gave up. I’ve read several of this authors works that I really enjoyed, sadly this one wasn’t among them.

Amazingly good

This is such a fantastic listen, I could not put it down. John Solo's narration is always spot on and I'm never disappointed. This was my first book of Tal Bauer's but it won't be my last. Action, intrigue, espionage, romance, it has it all, I could not get enough. If you want a light fluffy read this book is not for you.

Great book! Except John solo reading

Great book was captivating with the story. I will never buy another book read by John solo. He is a book reader not a Narrator. I really want a refund because of that.

The Night Of

My favorite type of story and Tal Bauer always does it so well.
I love a tense, edge of seat race to solve the complex murder mystery.
Intertwined with a gritty sensual love story that is so intense the tension and emotion is palpable. Especially so when the audio book is so brilliantly performed.
Sean is a Secret service agent attached to the presidential detail in a remote way. Jonathan is the vice president.
Jonathan and Sean have history, And when the president Mysteriously dies under under circumstances that leaves best friend Jonathan questioning everything. He turns to Sean for help when trusting anyone could prove fatal.
The whole story takes place in just a few short days.
A convoluted tangled deception is revealed that while not real life believable makes a great page turner for intrigue.
I enjoyed this story very much.
John Solo is a terrific narrator.

Loved!

I read the ebook first and loved it. But listening to Sean and Johnathan’s relationship journey really hit a lot harder than it did when I first read the book. Definitely a great narration of an incredible story. I think this might be one of my favorite audiobooks and is one I’ll definitely listen to again!

John Solo delivers

When I read this book, I never imagined that it would be even better on audio, but it is. A taut political thriller combined with a sweet second chance romance, Solo brings out all the best in Tal Bauer's work.
I highly recommend this book and the audio!

WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK, TAL??

I've learned at this point not to expect anything from a Tal Bauer book because I know at some point, I am going to be unbelievably wrong. It just so happens that this time I wasn't just wrong I was so far off base that it couldn't even be considered the same planet!!

Secret Service Agent Sean Avery has been muddling his way through the last year of his life after he made a mistake so harsh that it cost him the man he loved. He rarely sees his ex and makes sure to stay clear of him at every chance because seeing him will just make things that much harder. Staying away from the Vice President was doable enough until the president kills himself and the only one that the new president trust is him because it seems that the president might not have actually killed himself after all...

Finding a killer is never as easy as they make it seem and with time running out before Jonathan is the next victim will Sean be able to save the only man he has ever loved?

John Solo killed his narration!! I've heard John speak dozens of times, but this was my first narration by and him and now I get the hype. He was able to differentiate between both Sean & Jonathan's voices while still keeping their scenes very intimate. He really performed for his book and when Sean was terrified you could feel that in John's narration and it just made the narration that much better.

If you are looking for a fast passed murder mystery that will have you guessing until the last minute with quite a few swoon worthy moments tossed in, then this book is for you. You can't go wrong with reading a Tal book but go for the narration because John Solo outdid himself for this one.

John Solo irritates the hell out of me sometimes..

Well, Tal seems to be using John Solo for everything he writes nowadays [but surely not The Jock when it arrives, the characters are just way too young for him...just NO!!]. As usual, JS pronounces Moscow as Mos-cow 🐄, but that's probably down to where he comes from in the States I suspect; his Georgi Morozov and Yekaterina Baker also suffered from differing pronunciations during the recording, but that's par for the course. 4 stars for the audio.

Tal Bauer is a master storyteller

"I've yet to read a book by this author that I wouldn't give 5* plus. He just has a way of pulling you into a book with the opening pages and this was no exception.
It starts with Sean, a Secret Service agent patrolling the grounds of Camp David during a G8 summit. He's thinking back to the last G8 summit, 1 year ago when things went horribly wrong for him, what? we are not told at this time.
Enjoy these quiet moments with Sean's musings because, once a gunshot is heard, it is fast paced and completely engaging as you try to work out what really happened and what had Sean so distressed with his memories of 1 year ago."

The above was my review after reading the eBook and I couldn't wait for the audio-book, however, I think I prefer the former. I really like John as a narrator of Tal's books but he can be a little over-dramatic at times and occasionally the voices blurred into one, so I was unsure who was speaking. I was happy with his interpretation of Sean's voice but not so much with Jonathan. And, please don't get me started on the "British" accent

A paranoid, introspective mumble.

As a thriller it gets lost in the past. The story has no forward progression, it has all the thrill of being in a car stuck in the mud. The readers style adds further to the already over emotional atmosphere.

Presidential romance

Basically a good who done it story padded out to include a romance. I liked the intrigue but found the romance a bit too unbelievable. The president and the secret service agent, really, what a fantasy. The performance, whilst good, was so melodramatic in parts that, if I could have been bothered, I would have fast forwarded. Too over the top. I stayed to the end as I wanted to see how it all panned out. Good finale. I’m really going to have to watch what I buy in future.
