Story
Some tales are best told wet, dripping with blood and bowels, like a freshly slaughtered steer, its flesh and organs splayed across the butcher’s floor for all the world to see. Whether listening to such stories or seeing such slaughters, the observer is witnessing two primal truths: Fear can be measured in body parts, and death is rarely heroic. These eight tales were run through the meat grinder and served raw. If you’re going in, bring plenty of napkins.

Story
The blizzard hits out of nowhere, screaming across the Great Plains like a runaway train. Frostbite and hypothermia wait for anyone caught without shelter. For the hardy settlers of Far Enough, in the Montana Territory, it’s about to get worse. Something else has arrived with the blizzard - something sleek and savage and hungry. Wild animal or vengeful spirit from Native American legend, it blends into the snow and bites with sharper teeth than the wind. It is called the wanageeska. It is the White Death.

From electrifying horror author Nick Cutter comes a haunting new novel, reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian and Stephen King's It, in which a trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous.

A stranger in a mask walks through Philadelphia, handing out tickets to an underground wrestling show, promising a level of violence unlike anything fans have seen before. The card features a mix of legends and hot up-and-comers. Most intriguing, it will mark the debut of the enigmatic, hammer-wielding Crimson Executioner, a monster of a man whose promo videos look like something out of Saw or Hostel.

In a near-deserted coastal village, odd things are happening. Strangers are asking questions about the town's recluse. A local hunter discovers naked footprints in the snow. The stray dog population has ceased to exist. And with winter's most powerful weapon bearing down, things are about to become much, much worse. A werewolf book. Not a romance. Not at all.

Ten years after the collapse, Huxley has built a good life again. He has a loving wife, a farm with fields of golden barley, and a daughter with a strange and wonderful gift. Then the slavers come. Working out in the fields during the attack, Huxley returns too late. His daughter has been taken, and his wife is bleeding out, her last whispered words about a man with a scorpion tattoo on his neck. Where do the slavers go? Huxley has no idea. He knows only that they head east, and so will he, setting out on foot across the desert of the Wastelands.

A dark and heavy novel
- By Fathas on 06-14-17
By: D. J. Molles
Publisher's Summary
Some things, according to Cody McCall, are worth risking a whipping. Such as, sneaking out with your friends after dark for a peek at the traveling show setting up just outside of town. Oddities, the signs promise. Marvels. Grotesqueries. Exotic attractions and mysterious magics.
Not as if they'd be allowed to attend otherwise, not with parents and preacher and schoolmarm all disapproving. But how often does a chance like this come along? There isn't much else by way of excitement in quiet, peaceful Silver River, a once-prosperous boom town slowly gone bust.
Worth risking a whipping, sure. Worth risking life and limb, and maybe more? Worth risking being ripped to pieces by ravenous, inhuman brutes? Worth crossing paths with those strange, silent cult-folk from the high valley? Worth all the fire and bloodshed and horror and death?
Because something far worse than any ordinary traveling show has come to town, and one thing is for certain: those who survive, if any, will never forget the night Silver River run red.

A Masterpiece of Violence
I am a reader who appreciates on-page violence. I want the gore, I want to see everything and to be on hand in the front center splash zone wearing a raincoat to keep the blood from filling my shoes. Morgan does not disappoint.
Morgan is an incredible author, Not only does her prose pop, but the world-building is capable of putting together is staggering. The Night Silver River Run Red is a story that takes place in a town, that exists in a fully realized world, a place that seems real, with all the little details and moments you need for the story to be a real place populated by real people.
Real good people, real bad people, real kind people, real cruel people, and by the end of the story, mostly real dead people.
I heartily recommend you visit Silver River, but make sure you bring your raincoat.
The narration was on point and fantastic as well.

LOVE the Splatter Western series
I've read a few of the Splatter Western entries and I've recommended the series to a few other readers who I think will like them. This entry didn't fully work for me. A lot of times in weird westerns or horror/western hybrids, supernatural or mythological creatures are mixed into the frontier setting. The "monsters" here are very human (which isn't a problem) but seem to have wandered in from another extreme horror novel. I found this a little jarring. Not a bad book overall but perhaps best to be aware going in what the lay of this frontier land looks like. Still love the series and eagerly await each new entry.
