Story
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Publisher's Summary
A new case won't solve Parker's old problems....
Parker Ferro needs a vacation. His boyfriend is MIA on a high profile murder investigation, the fae courts have him on call at all hours, and he’s still cleaning up the mess from his last big case. Of course, that’s nothing compared to the demands of the debt he owes the spirit of San Amaro.
So, when a wealthy new client contacts him to locate a stolen fae artifact, Parker’s hoping for a simple job. That the artifact in question looks eerily similar to the one that got him involved with a notorious criminal and almost ruined his life last year - well, that has no bearing on the decision....right? Not to mention the thief’s ability to enter high security areas without a trace and a few very suspicious deaths.
As his life continues to spiral out of control, Parker has to juggle what’s most important to him: his relationship, his need for revenge, or his life. Then again, no one said becoming the new Windrose would be easy.
The Oak Wood Throne is a MM urban fantasy with a HFN ending.

Great narration for a fantastic story!
Narration: Greg does a great job with this book! He really brings the characters, especially Parker, and the world to life. He’s one of my favorite narrators and a big reason I grabbed this audiobook.
Story: I'm not sure my review will do this book justice, but here we go!
This is the fantasy series I've always wanted. The characters are so much fun. The story is beyond interesting. The magic system is unique. There are no information dumps; the world building is integrated perfectly into the storytelling. The romantic relationship is between two men and it's not taboo or even made into a big thing.
This book is primarily focused on the overarching plot, with just enough glimpses into Parker and Nick's day-to-day interactions and a little bonus spice. I love that this story is not overly romantic or too focused on the relationship because it makes the romance that much more authentic. These two are very busy with their jobs and have to work through the trickiness of making time for each other and navigating the challenges that come with the dangerous nature of their work.
Parker is definitely my favorite part about this book. He is full of wit and charm, and a genuinely good man. And he's hilarious! I laughed at so many of his antics and deadpan deliveries. Even Nick got in on some of the humor in this book - more so than the first. These two together were a riot at times. They had a lot of chemistry to begin with, but they are like a married couple in this story and I loved every moment of it.
As for the overarching plot, a lot happens in this book! If you thought the first book was a ride, just wait until you read this one. I thought the pacing was perfect and I couldn't put this book down. Most of the side characters from the first book pop up at some point, plus a few new ones. Kai is great at writing side characters that add to the story and writing ones that you care about.
I honestly hope we get several more books in this series. I adore Parker and Nick so much and the story is fascinating. There's a lot of potential for more and I'd be sad to see it all wrapped up in a third book. Or, better yet, I would love to see the author write more in this universe period and continue taking us along for the journey in this other world.
This book is not a standalone, so you must read the first, which is no hardship. I will be re-reading this series because I love it so much.

Action, Suspense, Steam, and Humor
This is the second book of the San Amaro Investigations series. This book can be read as a stand alone since it does have new cases to solve; however, there is a continuation of a story from the first book, Wormwood Summer. The author does explain briefly what is going on but you will definitely find it much more satisfying and enjoyable if you read the first one. And you won't regret since it is also a great book!
I am so addicted to this series. It is action packed from beginning to end, with unexpected twists and turns. I love Parker's snarky humor and his twisted ways of solving mysteries. Nick is the perfect balance to Parker's crazy and not so safe methods/antics. The magical world building just keeps getting better with all the new characters introduced, which definitely add more depth to the story. And definitely opens the door for more adventures which I want asap!!
Greg Tremblay continues to do a great job of bringing the characters to life. He also does an awesome job of giving each character their own unique and animated voice, there's no confusion of who is speaking and

More antics
I really love Parker and the antics he gets into during his cases and navigating the new roll of Windrose.
Parkers relationship with Nick, Fae, not-a-cat and all the other characters that make us the story is funny, charming and sometimes a little sad. The author gives us levels within the story, always a mystery to solve as well as personal issues to overcome.
Greg does a fantastic job narrating this tale and making all the characters come alive.

Can’t wait for Book 3!
A refreshing take on fae characters and lore without straying too far from what you’d naturally think of. I also appreciate the lgbt characters as a gay man and am grateful stories like this, where I can see myself fully as the main protagonist, exist. Can’t wait for another adventure with Parker and Nick!
