Story
I thought I was a useless witch whose only weapons were a switchblade and a mean disposition. I thought Zak was a rogue druid with waning power and an alluring aura that's impossible for me to resist. And I thought my fae familiar was a harmless shape-shifter who chose me because I'm "mildly interesting". But nothing is what I thought. Nothing is what it seems. Including me. I need answers, and I need them fast - before I sink any deeper in the quagmire of secrets I've fallen into. The Crystal Druid's. The Winter King's. And my own.

Story
When I arrived at my uncle's house, I expected my relatives to be like me - outcast sorcerers who don't practice magic. I was right about the sorcery, but wrong about everything else. Rule two: Don't listen to the demon. My uncle chose a far deadlier power. He calls creatures of darkness into our world, binds them into service contracts, and sells them to the highest bidder. And I'm supposed to act like I don't know how illegal and dangerous it is. Rule three: Don't talk to the demon. All I had to do was keep my nose out of it.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

I wouldn’t say my life is a dumpster fire — but it’s far from typical. I’m frenemies with the local werewolves’ Alpha, my clients are shady as hell, and my magic falls firmly in the WTF category. Mephisto, my mysterious and powerful client, is more interested in my magic than the jobs he’s hired me for. And I’m pretty sure my court-ordered therapist thinks I’m an ass.

I thought I had it bad - living in my dead Dad’s old hunting blind in the woods, barely staying alive on apples and ramen...that was before the storm hit and destroyed the only form of shelter I had left. Enter, Jared. The hottest - and most unavailable - guy at school. Except he wasn’t Jared when he pulled me out of the mud. He wasn’t even human. As if that wasn’t unsettling enough, when he brought me back to his cabin, I found he wasn’t alone. Another guy, one I’d only ever heard about in whispers beneath the bleachers, was there too.

Fresh off a breakup and an eviction, I started my day like any other: a book in one hand, a coffee in the other, and faking that can-do attitude inspirational memes are made of. I was ready to take on the world — and I did. Unfortunately, it was the Underworld. One freak accident later, I’m standing face-to-face with the sexy-as-sin and dangerously powerful Prince of the Underworld. He has a few burning questions for me — like how a mere human unlocked the door to the Underworld’s prison and released its prisoners.

Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal.

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight.

Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Publisher's Summary
I'm not your average girl.
My best friend is my switchblade. My favorite hobby is using it on the cruel, the abusive, and anyone who gets on my bad side. I'm a convicted murderer with a chip on my shoulder and a dangerous lack of restraint.
And then there's Zak.
His rap sheet makes mine look tame. The bounty on his head is worth more money than I'll ever make, and the deadly fae that shadow his every step wield more power than I'll ever know.
He's the Crystal Druid, and his first mistake was setting foot on my turf. His second was saving my life.
And his final mistake will be failing to realize that however dark, however ruthless, however broken he is...I'm worse.

UGH!!!
I absolutely love the Guild Codex stories, they are my favorite and I've read all the books several times over. I love Annette Marie! She's amazing at building this world and very consistent throughout all the books.
This book was no different. It's amazing and captivating and I plowed through it; devouring it in a single day!! It has a little different feeling to it but I still very much enjoyed this book.
No spoilers but damn!!! Why did she have to leave me hanging like this at the end!!!! I'm dying!!!

My favorite Guild Codex book yet
I was definitely wanting to read about what happened next with the Crystal Druid but I wasn’t expecting such a rich new story line. Marie seamlessly blends old and new storylines in a way that never feels forced or recycled. She doesn’t just use previous book as a jumping off point, but adds new depth to the fascinating world she created. I cannot wait for the next book!

Fae-tastic!!!
Annette has hit the mark with the Guilded Codex world. Perfect world building, great magical system, well developed characters, and stories that... they're just really entertaining!
This story gives us darker characters. They aren't all goodie-two shoes. They don't mind getting their hands dirty or bloody. I loved it. There is only so much do-gooder storytelling I can take. 🤣 Saber Rose is a better female lead than Torri. And the Fae... much more Fae in this series.
At this point any book in this series is a must read. This story introduces a new set of characters within the Guilded Codex world. As with the other series, events are intertwined with characters in the other books. This story mixes with Zach, aka The Ghost. It shows some of what he has been up to since the events with Torri and that series final installment.
Book ends with a cliff hanger so be prepared!
Narration was great!

everything awesome except the ending
does this mean that there will be a sequel? the ending to this book is unexpected but also frustrating. it kind of like watching a movie after you are just about to finish it and the vcr eats the vhs. Or watching a TV series and the last episode that explains everything is never made because it got canceled. because of that I can't give it full marks. all I can do is say grrr.

So disappointing!
I loved all the other guild codex books, bunging the entire series, which is why this was so very disappointing. The protagonist has no redeeming qualities and is utterly lacking in charm. The Crystal Druid is portrayed as a tortured, powerful, mysterious magic man in the other books. Here he’s just another guy with some magic skills.
Don’t waste the credit.

Worth the wait
Although I struggled with Saber's personality like so many other reviews have noted, it did ring true for someone who had been through her experiences. It was a great introduction to this series and Zak is soooooo much more likeable! The reveal at the end, yeah Ms. Marie that's why I shouldn't even be reading this until they are ALL out, but I did so when I run out I will just suffer.

Not As Compelling
First, I need to iterate that I LOVE this series. I wait anxiously for each new story. However, I couldn’t relate to Saber. There didn’t seem to be much character development beyond anger. I couldn’t make myself care about her. I love Zach, though, I’ve never seen him as the “bad boy” to generate so much immediate hostility from the people who read his profile. I would like, for once, for someone to read his profile and toss it aside to go and get the “real” story.
I have to keep listening for the next book, but only for Zach. Saber can ride off onto the sunset

suprisingly good
what at the outset apears to be yet annother dirirative, like that of Torys later books. is instead a deligt well foreshadowed and grounded in the established mythos.
it is worth noting i do not recomend this book as your first. but it follows upp nicely on several questions established abaut this worls Spiritaulis class.

Just Superb
Great Story. Well told and just enough crossover into the Guild Codex universe to tease.
Zak & Sabre are awesome together.
Swamp Monsters, Fire-breathing Familiars & Lalakai
With Switchblades, Golden Whips and a little Tandem Bareback Riding, this story is next level.
Narration and production were flawless as expected.
Enjoy!!👍

Great narration but unlikeable character
I struggle to finished. Main character, Saber, is all hot air with no substance. Keep wishing the story will do her more justice by hinting she is something more but nope, throughout just keep repeating how dangerous she is but every turn she is the weakest. She is so full of self pity and keeps making stupid decisions. By stroke of luck she manage to survive. I find her rather irritating and would not bother to find out what happens to her next.

Aaaaargh! I need a sequel immediately!!!
I love all things Anne Marie. I didn’t like Saber as much as her other characters. She was well written, I just didn’t like her as a person. She’s defensive and angry and traumatised at the start, but she doesn’t really grow much as a person in this story. She’s an arsehole and a psychopath, and pretty narcissistic, even if she is kind to animals. But, sequels are imminent and perhaps she’s just a slow burn character who’s going to take a while to grow into someone I’d want to be friends with. Or an antihero I’m going to like. (You can be a rogue as long as you’re a lovable rogue.) Or maybe she won’t. She’s like that kid who would beat you up in highschool because their parents were on drugs and they had ADHD and they couldn’t regulate their emotions. All the teachers make excuses for them because they’ve got a tough life, but at the end of the day, they still pushed me over and stole my lunch money and now I’m hungry and my knees hurt, so they don’t get any sympathy from me. I don’t care how horrible their life is, because they’re still a jerk and they can just SUCK it! I like her friends though, and she can’t be all bad if she has so many people who are loyal to her, and I can see that she’s TRYING to be better (admittedly in a half arsed way) so at this stage I’m willing to put up with her so I can hang out with her friends. Perhaps over time she’ll let her guard down a bit and start to actually care about other people, instead of just pretending, and perhaps she’ll stop being such a narcissist and making everything about herself (oh no, my mentor just died, why doesn’t everyone realise that I’m the real victim here?). When she can learn to actually care about people, then I’ll start to really care about her. Give me a reason to forgive her bad behaviour and I’ll be hooked.

I love how big this world is getting.
As a fan of all the other series's in the Guild Codex world, I started listening to this without reading the blurb, so was surprised this is told from the perspective of Sabre & not Zak. Sabre is a take no 'sheet' kinda of girl & love that she takes care of animals. I can't wait to get to know the back story of Zak more. The end left me busting for the next instalment.

I just finished the second book in the warped series and honestly I didn’t even finish it. I love Annette Marie but that series was so lack lustre I almost gave her away. But this book was fantastic! It’s more of the tail of Sabre Rose than the druids but all the same it held my interest and really left me wanting more. Would highly recommend

Amazing
Annette has done it again!! It’s hard to believe this different side of Zak but I love it, and what an amazing female lead. Strong and venerable, I love her and can’t wait for the twists and turns this series’s going to have.
