Publisher's Summary

His name is ARTIE, a miracle of bio-engineering that is about to transform the field of neurosurgery. Dr. Jessie Copeland knows him better than anyone else at Eastern Mass Medical Center - and knows it's too soon to be using the tiny robot on a living patient's brain. But Jessie's department chief is too busy to worry about such ethics. And neither of them has any idea that ARTIE will attract a patient from their worst nightmares.

Claude Malloche is a master assassin, more rumor than man, for whom murder is an art. No one can identity his face. Now Malloche has a deadly brain tumor, and he intends to have the best neurosurgeon in the world operate on it.

To ensure Jessie's cooperation, Malloche has devised a plan of intimidation that puts at risk her life and the lives of hundreds of innocent people. Neurosurgery requires nerves of steel, but in coming up with a scheme to fulfill her oath as a doctor while thwarting a diabolical killer, Jessie will be performing the most complex surgery of her career - on a knife-edge of terror.

Critic Reviews

"[A] rip-roaring page-turner." (New York Post)

"The Patient might be [Palmer’s] most riveting book yet, leaving hardly enough time to take a breath." (Denver Post

"The Patient is what Die Hard movies are made of: brilliantly nasty terrorists hectoring innocent folks, with only a wisecracking lone wolf to forestall." (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

Good Medical Read

Great story and loved the medical parts especially! Great characters and was even dramatic at times. I loved the ending as well. The narrator was just a touch monotone but nothing that made me want to stop listening. Thank you for a great read.

Interesting & Well Read

An intriguing reader tells this murder mystery with enough medical terms to make it believable and interesting to the end!

Someone engrossing, but also bordering on the ridiculous.

Until it became a medical mystery that bordered on the absurd, the book was reasonably well-written. On three or four occasions, sentences were repeated, but overall, the performance was complex and well done.

Kept me on the edge of my seat!

great book. couldn't put it down. I do wish there would be a more relational end to the story, i.e. what happened to Alex and Jessie

INTERESTING MEDICAL THRILLER

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I would have to say that although the story was an enjoyable ride, it was not the type of book I thought it would be. But knowing now what the book was about I know a lot of my friends would like it. It did keep my interest with all the plot twists.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

the story is fine as is.

What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?

I thought Michale Cramer did a great job with the different voices and smooth reading style.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

How invasive do you want your surgery to be? Are you ready to become the next prong on the ladder of hopeful medical miracles.

Two different books

The first half was an interesting Michael Palmer medical mystery. The second half seem to be a different book. ... an unoriginal action adventure.
