Publisher's Summary
It has been 16 years since the Day of Reckoning, when magic and witchcraft were outlawed throughout all of Eileanan. And though rumors say that she is dead, the Arch-Sorceress Meghan of the Beasts still lives. Traveling with her are the true heir to the throne and the red-haired warrior Iseult. Their fates are woven together in a quest to bring magic back to the land.
As Eileanan nears its darkest hour, Meghan must gather rebel forces to move upon the city of Lucescere. There, the Rìgh lies near death, and his Queen, Maya the Ensorcellor, and her babe stand to inherit his power. To end Maya’s brutal reign and bring magic out of the shadows, what was broken must be brought together: twin sisters who have never met, three parts of an enchanted key, and the winged man with the powers of the lost Lodestar.

Forsyth is a top of her genre worldbuilder
This series is amazing. It's also written for an audience willing to completely descend into the characters world. The author is a rare but true expert level writer. She has few peers in a massively crowded genre. That is so hard to do! Don't waste this opportunity to become totally immersed in this world. The experience is rare and amazing. And the narrarion is perfection.

I have read the paperback version of this book more times than I can count and I have loved this series since I first discovered it. I was so excited to see it is finally coming out on audible. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life and speaking in a clear voice. Although the accent is heavy it is easily understood and really brings the characters different personalities to life. The voices used make it extremely easy to differentiate between each character. I highly recommend this book. If you love a story of magic and sci fi filled with great accents and a gripping story then this series is for you.

Very Slow Second book
I enjoyed this book but was surprised at how little actually happened. The protagonist from the first book practically disappears. Lots of new characters are introduced. I really dislike how the narrator doesn't pause when she moves between different groups. I will keep listening to Book 3 but really hope this one moves a bit faster.

Great story, but…
This is the second installment of the Witches of Eileanan series. Without giving anything away (though I don’t mind spoilers for myself) I will give my review.
As with the first book, the characters and storyline is original and very interesting. I love reading about historical rituals from any culture, but for me there was just a few too many chapters of that in this book. I also felt that some of the plot lines were drawn out a lil too long in an obvious effort to enhance the intrigue; examples: the lost/stolen child and Isabeau’s repeated ignorance.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and will more than likely continue the series. I only hesitate because I get tired and bored of the same evil villain showing up repeatedly to create the same drama with the same unsurprising outcome.
We shall see and I’ll let y’all know. Happy listening

Book 2 - many details come together
Ms. Forsyth is an excellent writer in her use of imagery, setting, and characterization… there are sooo many details, I found it hard to follow at times and had to re-listen. For me, it might be easier to listen and read, so I can re-read the numerous details and process the information more clearly.
That said, book 2 brings together the myriad of characters that have been introduced in both books, and has a satisfying resolution. We know what each of our main players are supposed to do going forward.
I feel more invested now for each of them as well. Ms. New lands’ performance definitely brings the story to life, and draws the listener into action as a close observer. There is violence in the story, much as in Game of Thrones, but there are no sexual attacks (as in bk. 1), and the action moves along a bit quicker in bk. 2. The violence is part of the world they live in. I am hoping for less of it in bk. 3 and more seeing how the new reunions play out.
I will move to bk. 3 now to see what happens….

Occasionally it's difficult understanding accent/language but I have really enjoyed these first 2 books of this series. There are many enjoyable characters with their individual complexities, the story is intriguing and well paced, and plenty of magical moments

I love how Kate Forsyth doesn't drag out plots and stories, but instead keeps both the listener and her characters on their toes, while feeding one enough clues to wonder where we will be lead next. She continues to enrich and challenge her characters...
