Story
As a child Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating - and waiting for suitable prey.

Story
When the Colonial Marines set out after their deadliest prey, the Xenomorphs, it's what Corporal Hicks calls a bug hunt - kill or be killed. Here are fifteen all-new stories of such "close encounters", written by many of today's most extraordinary authors. Set during the events of all four Alien films, sending the Marines to alien worlds, to derelict space settlements, and into the nests of the universe's most dangerous monsters, these adventures are guaranteed to send the blood racing - one way or another.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Great Prequel
If the movie is a great as this pre quel, then you're in for a ride. Of course I don't hold too much with hollywood script writers who often think they can do a better job by rewriting an already great storyline. if they leave it alone and follow the direct line from this prequel then you're in for a ride.
If you are just a fan of the Predator genre, then this one a must. There are more questions answered here than previously from just the movie, how and why the Predators come here to hunt. And there is more, perhaps an answer to the bigger Predators seen in the move "PREDATORS". Either way it is a great storyline and can probably stand alone if you don't know enough about the entire genre...Read it, go see the movie and enjoy the ride.

Decent story, poor acting
While the story was entertaining, and moved at a decent pace the narrator was not suited for audiobooks. terrible inflections, terrible acting. He makes Schwarzenegger look like an Oscar performing actor. I had a hard time getting through this one, and only because it was free.

Adds nothing
As far as prequels go, this one was rather pathetic. I liked the story fine, but it really didn't add anything to the movie. I don't think any of the characters from the movie were in it (but they were pretty forgettable too) and pretty much everyone died anyway. I was also disappointed in this as well as the movie of the lack of the use of the term Yautja to describe the Predator. It's not to say I particularly like the term (I think it sounds stupid), but if you are gonna make a word part of the canon, use it. Also the one time I heard it used in the book, it sounded like the Predator was using it ot describe humans. Also, the author did a poor job of making the Predator sound alien. It really felt like the equivalent of a human in a rubber suit or with a handful of prosthetics. I liked, but not a lot.
To top it off, the reader was really just reading. Every character really sounded the same and that made it hard to follow.

Good Book
I really enjoyed the narration from the predator's point of view, wish there was more of it. I have to say the narrator kind of killed it for me. They just didn't seem to make the characters and he used the same tone/voice with different characters. Just hard to listen to.

Very boring and dull
Just finished it and can say even with the "big" battle at the end it's just boring and dull. The book is 40% meetings and secret meetings with characters that are easily forgettable and just easily killed off. I didn't enjoy the narration either as most of the voices sounded the same and some of the tough guy voices were almost comical.

for fans of the series
An interesting read, particularly some of the action filled chapters. Unfortunately characters are bland and it can be easy to loose track of every ones name especially when a majority of which die throughout the book but the same can be said about the movies. If your a fan of the movies then this captures some of what makes the original movie a cult classic. Worth a listen whilst it's included in audibles subscription service.
