Publisher's Summary

Seminal poems for moments of mindfulness.

First published in 1923 and never out of print, The Prophet has been translated into over 100 languages and read by millions of people around the world. On the face of it, a simple book of 26 poem fables sharing one man’s wisdom. But The Prophet is so much more than that.

It has inspired people from John F Kennedy to The Beatles and became the '60s Bible of counterculture – all because of the timeless truths it shared. Each poem takes a different theme – pleasure, beauty, freedom, joy and sorrow – as the fictional Al Mustapha shares his thoughts and experiences as he prepares to travel back to his island home. Even on first listen, his words will seem achingly familiar, having soaked into our collective subconscious:

  • Like a chain, you are as weak as your weakest link
  • Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed
  • Let there be spaces in your togetherness
  • You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thought
  • It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked

This collection makes the perfect bedtime listen or walking companion as you take time out from the world to consider your own truths and experiences, guided by the wise words and gentle hand of Kahlil Gibran.

Riz Ahmed's Narraration Is So Moving!

I have read The Prophet in times past. Nevertheless, Riz Ahmed's narration invokes more intense images--as if I were there standing the sea shore myself. So moving. Thank you!

There is a reason this book has never been out of print. There is a reason this book has been a supplement for many religious text. There is a reason this book has been quoted by many throughout the ages. That reason is that the wisdom in these pages transcend time and culture.

You are not evil when you are not good

I wish instead of fashionable words of LIVE LAUGH LOVE , people would have these word decorating their walls and social media,
The words that are timeless and hit you hard in the core of your existence . Gives you a very wired calmness that you were not expecting to come.
Your thoughts and my words are waves .

Love the Voice

I has never heard of Riz Ahmed till I heard the book of Assassins Gold. Love the voice! So soothing yet passionate—how can one be both? His voice makes the stories he reads better.

What a gem

I've already listened to this twice. I read The Prophet years ago and it's great to revisit it now. Riz Ahmed is a brilliant narrator - his voice is so silky

A Gift

The Prophet. This book, narrated this way, has turned it into a life long companion. It's passages will embrace you and give you counsel when you need steering through difficult times, or simply to offer enlightenment on a dreary day.
The narrator is so soothing, so faithful. His intonation is perfection.

This is how it's done.

Thank you Riz Ahmed

Music for the soul.

I was ill, it was perfect peace to listen too, I dozed off inbetween but carried on when I awoke, will listen again sometime. It was not what I expected but, I enjoyed it anyway. I am new to his works and like what I hear very philosophical, It inspired me to write some thing I have been thinking about. JVR
