Publisher's Summary

Secrets of the past hold the key to the future.

Joseph Bridgeman is now an official member of the Continuum, a group of time travelers that heal the past to protect the future. When a rare focus object is stolen and put up for sale, Joe jumps at the chance to retrieve it, but a simple auction turns into a dangerous new mission that takes him farther back in time than he’s ever been before.

Alone and unprepared in ancient China, Joe must not only complete the mission, but also unravel the mystery of a secretive organization known as Extempero. Who are they? And why do they seem intent on destroying everything the Continuum has achieved so far?

When all hope appears lost, an unexpected ally helps Joe unlock a unique form of time-travel loop that sees him flung into the past yet again. Caught up in a shocking natural disaster, Joe must face a terrible choice, a decision that will have far-reaching consequences for the Continuum and a delicate future that hangs in the balance.

better and better

as a truck driver i listen to a lot of books (several each week). Most are sci/fi.
One thing I have noticed is that Nick Jones is on another level as a writer in compared to many of the others I follow.
I continue to be impressed with his work. Can’t wait for more.
And, of course, Ray Porter is still the best.

Dear Audible, it’s great that we have the ability to follow authors now, but we also need the ability to follow the narrators. I would never have discovered Nick Jones if it were not for Ray Porter.

Can’t Wait for the next one

I’m so glad I found this author and series. And the fact that Ray Porter is the narrator really makes it enjoyable. Whenever I listen to one of his books, I feel like I’m taking a tiny vacation and I’m going on an adventure.

The Quantum Chain!

Terrific audiobook. This book had so much going on. The Focus Objects that are used for time travel are being used by a mysterious group! Can Joseph find out what is going on and fix the damage? This object is a very antique d pottery of a Chinese horse!

A book too far

Oh dear. I did not return this, but I considered it. Ray Porter’s excellence stopped me. He is divine.
I loved the first book, and it should have ended there. The second book was a reach, this one is halfway over the shark, ruining a nice story. It’s so bogged down in descriptions it loses the story, but when it gets to San Francisco it got personal.
I’m a San Francisco Giants fan. I was watching the Series. Now I wonder what he got wrong about Ancient China. What a bunch of melodramatic twaddle.

Really good story

The story moves a long at a good pace and the narrator is very good with the many voices. The only thing that grates is the American pronunciation of English words. The narrator knows he is reading a book set in UK so I would have thought that some effort would have gone into the English pronunciations. (Veea instead of via for example). I found myself listening out for the mistakes. That being said, I really enjoyed listening to all the Joseph B books

An excellent addition to the series

I had this on pre-order, so had high expectations. The story starts off slowly, but it really does pick up pace. A very gripping story arc. Once again Ray Porter brings this to life, also improving slightly on his British accent (very slightly, but I don't care, he reads it well). Now to wait for the next one!

Forth book in the series and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Narration by Ray Porter is easy to listen to and his characters good. Would definitely recommend, if you enjoy time travel.

Fab series!!

I live these books and as a fan of time travel stories I can tell you that these are amongst the very best. Will there be more?

One gripe - I don’t like the American narrator.

Dissapointing

The narrator is really beginning to grate. The very inconsistent attempts at accents are at times bordering on offensive carricatures.

The plot itself is splintering into a repetitive mishmash of sub-Quantum Leap level nonsense.

A strong editor could improve things no end.

An emotional Rollercoaster of Adventure

Where to start? This was a fantastic next book in the series where we start to learn more about the concepts of time travel and how difficult things get if you mess with it. The main character is so relatable which heightens the emotions you feel as he goes on his adventures. I whooped, laughed, cried and gasped throughout. Ray Porter does a fantastic job of narrating the story; I was particularly impressed by his southern American woman accent and South African accent. I certainly hope this series will continue for a long time as it’s wonderfully British with so much potential!!

Not so Aussie Accent

Enjoyable as always but that Aussie accent HURT me! The character was only there for a hot 5 seconds but as a person from the land down under it was a scarring experience.

Absolutely wonderful

Wonderful expansion of the themes. Like so many series which simply become variations there was a risk that Joe would simply go on missions in a different setting. This book adds enormous depth and breadth. Read splendidly by Ray Porter as always.
