Publisher's Summary

Bakery owner Willow Dalton's friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane's always had a reputation as a player. He's arrogant, and he's definitely not boyfriend material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before college, but is that reason enough for her to go along with a fake engagement a decade later - even if it comes with a real diamond ring?

Zane should have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows her better than anyone, and becoming America's hottest new leading man means cleaning up his reputation. An "engagement" to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is the perfect PR move...provided no one gets hurt.

Now Zane and Willow's little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their fake engagement and the real thing - including them.

Not sure why it was under romantic comedy

This was an okay book even though it was abit predictable. I'm really sure why it was listed under romantic comedy because I never out right laughed but there were a few places that I snickered. Not worth a credit but I paid 1.99 because I have Kindle unlimited so it was worth that.

I want my credit and the last several hours of my life back

Ridiculous. Narrator's voice is unbearable, the story is as deep as a paper towel. And the alpha male vs. helpless female is eye-rolling.

I love all of her books

I believe I own all of her books I will listen to or read anything she has written. I may not be the best person to say this but everything I have read by Melissa Foster deserves five stars or more.

it dragged

at first I thought the book had potential the storyline was pretty good but as the story started to drag on and on I couldn't finish the book. don't get me wrong I love romance books and I don't need to listen to a book that has lots of sex and even though this book does have Intimacy in it the problem is is that I just keep dragging on how she felt how he felt. I do like John Lane he's one of my favorite narrators he's one of my favorites but even with his sexy voice I still couldn't finish the book I'm curious about the other characters to see if there will be books about them but just because this book dragged I will not get it

Ummmmm..

So I get when a guy is the narrator it's sometimes hard for him to do believable female voices, but John Lane's voice was SO deep as a male to compensate that it became irritating after while. Seriously, his female voice was fine and there was no need to GO SO LOW. It was a nice love story but it could have been 4 chapters shorter.

Love found

For anyone who has ever experienced unrequited love or like the those kind of storylines, this book is for you. Narrator was really hard for me at first that I almost gave up on the book…I felt that it lacked sensuality and didn’t seem to fit the dual written narratives. Then I changed my perspective and thought of it as though it was my hubby reading the book to me and I slowed the book down to 90% of the speed. That did the trick!

SPOILER ALERT - Super satisfying as later in life they realize their shared and ongoing love, and fantasy becomes reality. The realization of reciprocated love…be still my heart.

Glad I didn't pay for it

I chose this book because it was free. The story was predictable and was a bit long. I'm no prude, but could have done without the many sexcapades. Supposedly Willow was supposed to have been plus sized or curvy but was described having big boobs, small waist and large hips. Just makes me laugh they cant have an actual big girl for the heroine. Always gotta have the small waist..The male narrator made me think of Robert Stack narrating the 80's series Unsolved Mysteries.

Had to stop listening

Had to stop listening to this book and switch to reading it. The narrator sounded like he was announcing a movie trailer the entire time. It was awful. Would have been a lot better had it just been narrated by a woman.
It was so distracting I couldn’t enjoy the book.

second chances

The two main characters here have known each other for many years, but a youthful favor put a strain on their relationship. Now years later, another favor might make them closer than ever or break them apart forever.

Good story and narration.

Sexy as ever

I love The Real Thing and this audio book narrator is perfect for it. He sounds exactly how I imagine Zane would. Beautiful story about two best friends helping each other and the voice to go with it sounds sexy as anything. Perfect

Sugary and Sweet

As my title says this was a definite sweet tale of two friends Willow and Zane. As Willow embarks on life at College/University she wants to go but wants to lose her Virginity and can only think of one Man for the job Zane. They part ways as he goes off to the life of an actor/celebrity and she opens a bakery. Years pass as they get on with their lives but still keep in touch. They get together and as he has a bad boy reputation and wants to clean up his act or so he says they come up with a fake engagement, well he proposes it and Willow after much deliberation agrees, plus it brings publicity for her bakery. Then follows lots of miss understandings and hidden feelings bubble to the surface. As we follow their story how we find out how much is fake and how much is true feelings, is it a one sided affair or do they both feel the same? Read it and find out.

This is a light read a touch predictable but a great one if you have just read a heavy hard hitting thriller and want something lighthearted.

Narrator does a good job.

Took too long for these two to become likable and by then I didn’t care.
I just couldn’t like either Willow or Zane. The secondary characters were good though.
Friends for years but the silliness of Willow wanting to give her virginity to Zane, just so she didn’t go to college a virgin. Really stupid and immature thinking at 18.
These two just rubbed me wrong on so many fronts which is a pity. The, I’ve loved you for years, vibe just didn’t show up for me.
Neither are honest, likeable or believable. In fact, both of them are pretty imbecilic and I hated the deception that was also perpetrated on the family. Zane had practically grown up with Willows family, so that was really mean.
They do come clean but it still didn’t feel realistic.
Zane starts this of with lies and deception, basically forcing Willow to become his fake fiancé, then leering at some busty blond that crossed his path.
Willow’s thinking is unbelievably immature and I just couldn’t understand her going along with the deception.
I think this author’s leading men are becoming too a-holish for me.
I listened to this though KU.
