Publisher's Summary

The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her grandmother forced her to go to church, a place Lacey thought was filled with hypocrites, fakers, and simpletons. The screaming match she had with her grandmother was the reason she went to church. What she found there was the reason she is alive today.

With raw vulnerability, this hard-rock princess tells her own story of physical abuse, drug use, suicide attempts, and her ultimate salvation. She asks the hard questions so many young people are asking - Why am I here? Why am I empty? Why should I go on living? - showing us that beyond the temporary highs and the soul-crushing lows, there is a reason they exist and a purpose for their lives. She not only gives listeners a peek down the rocky path that led her to become a vocalist in a popular hardcore band, but she shows them that the same God is guiding their steps today.

Wake up to the realities of suicidal thoughts

First off, the narrator was just ok to me. She got the job done, but I wasn't feeling everything that I thought I should throughout the book.

I love how vulnerable that Lacey got in this book. She was so pure is releasing her deepest thoughts into the world. It is obvious how Jesus made her whole. If she wasn't renewed spiritually, there is no way she could have been so open with her sins and restoration in Christ.

Thank you Lacey.

read this!

I adore Lacy and have always been moved by her story. This book breathed hope into me that I had been missing. I glad to have randomly come across it and listened to her story and her hope for a falling world.

Grateful for this testimony

I recommend for anyone who was a fan of flyleaf and is a fan of Lacey Sturm. I love her new music. It is truly wondrous to have heard how God has used her and I can’t wait to listen to her other books which she reads. Prayers and blessings to her and her family!

Me llegó al corazón

Me encantó el libro. Yo escucho las canciones de Flyleaf y no sabía de la existencia de este maravilloso libro, tuve la fortuna de conseguirlo en audiolibro y la narradora hizo que conectara con la historia. Mega recomendado!!!!

great for course correction

I've read this book at least four times and enjoyed the audio version just as much.
Lacey's amazing testimony blows me away each time at least as much as the time before.
When I need course correction from now and then toward the heart of God, Lacey Sturm's The Reason is in my top five books I've never read to help me get there.

Christianity too the max

She speaks as if it is known. It isn't. God isn't. Yes, she felt feelings, but us humans do that. A good movie or song gives us feelings. That isn't God, but just how we work.

Honest, Frank even if being preached too

I had tried reading this via ebook and it was a struggle to get through. Whilst I am a fan of Lacey Sturm, Flyleaf and their Passerby days; the insights were descriptive, bleak yet hopeful, however the religious arterial perspective was overbearing throughout.

I will continue to read other books by Sturm and will enjoy them despite the religious current, but would love to have been eased into her story without the "preachings" nature of this story.
