Publisher's Summary

From best-selling author Kristy Marie comes The Refiner, a steamy, enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance packed with all the feels and laughter your heart can take.

Wealthy.

Entitled.

Monarch.

Dr. Astor Potter was everything I despised in a man.

It didn’t matter that he was my sister’s one-night stand or her closest colleague.

I wasn’t charmed by his philanthropy or the way he made babies laugh using those ridiculous voices.

Dr. Potter was cold, detached, and reeked of disdain.

Nothing mattered to him.

Not the messages I left.

Or the tears I shed.

Nothing brought him to life.

Until my sister died.

And I placed my newborn niece in his arms.

Her father’s arms.

He didn’t know about the baby.

Neither did I.

They say love can’t be born from hate and grief.

I’m inclined to agree.

But then he asked me to stay….

All the feels and emotions!!

“The Refiner” is an emotional and heartfelt romance about finding peace and love after an unexpected and heartbreaking life change.

Dr. Astor Potter is back after his volunteer mission. He left as a single man and came back as a father. His good friend, Piper, was pregnant with their child and she didn’t tell him or her sister, Keagan. But unfortunate circumstances have led to Astor being a single father and Keagan now with any family other than her new niece.

Astor and Keagan stole my heart from the very beginning. I loved their chemistry right from the start as we got to know them before the unexpected happened. Astor is a swoon worthy, delicious delight and he really is the perfect guy. Keagan broke my heart with her grief and what she went through losing her sister. The story isn’t lacking in laughs or humorous moments at all. Keagan is the Queen at one liners and with appearances from Vance and Remington, you’re guaranteed a lighthearted laugh. Kristy Marie wrote a wonderful story about grief, love and finding happiness again after one of your darkest moments.

Heather Firth and Jason Clarke turned up the emotions for this story. I felt everything 10 times more with them narrating Keegan and Astor’s story. I loved listening to them.

Oh this man! Love this Doctor Potter!

“I’m not the man you want me to be...but I am the man you need.”
.
Review: This is Book 2 in The Hands of the Potters series. I was excited for this book, but also a little nervous how it was going to play out. I should have known Kristy would deliever. She knew just how to take care of my heart and give a beautifully touching story.
.
After an unexpected tragedy, Keagan's life is turned completely upside down. Astor is just returning from a humanitarian trip when his world is forever changed. These two tugged on my heart so much. I cried for them and they also cracked me up. Kristy knows the perfect recipe and how to mix the right about of banter with emotion. Keagan was so strong. I just wanted to give her a hug and be there for her. Astor is amazing and such a giver and protector with a heart of gold. The way he cared for Keagan and Tatum!🥺 I adored these three so much. Plus Alpha Astor...🥵! I completely fell in love with them. A beautiful story brought together through tragedy, but healed and built through love. I love the relationship and banter between the Potter brother's and Remington always cracks me up! I laughed out loud so many times. I listened to the audiobook by Jason Clarke and Heather Firth. They were both perfect and brought Keagan and Astor to life in such a beautiful way. This is definitely my favorite book in the series so far. I can't wait for Duke's story and I REALLY hope that Remington gets a book. I kind of love him already!😝

10 Let the Thunder Be Louder Than Your Fear Stars!

As much as I LOVED this book when I read it, listening to Heather Firth and Jason Clarke bring Astor and Keys to life was a truly overwhelming experience in the very best way. I’m a true believer of “a narrator can make or break an audiobook” and in this instance, because this book deals with some heartbreaking chapters, narrator choice is especially important. Kristy Marie absolutely 100% chose the right voices to bring her words to life. The same chapters that had me crying when I read the story, were even more impactful because both Heather and Jason did a phenomenal job of changing their tones and voices with some of those heartbreaking moments. They also knocked it out of the park when it came to the sassy and snarky conversations Keys and Astor had. It truly was like reading it for the first time thanks to their narration. I got lost in the story all over again!

It’s not often that I feel the need to give a book ALL THE STARS that I can. But every once in a while a book just transcends everything that I was expecting and The Refiner is one of those books!

I thought I knew the story Kristy Marie was going to give us, but I wasn’t expecting the tears as early as they came, nor the feeling that I just couldn't move past a certain chapter. I kept thinking in my head, she’s going to make it better…. She has to!! It was touch and go for a while, but by the time I flipped the last page, my heart was intact and beating with overwhelming love.

Astor Potter is so much more than I thought he was when I met him in The Potter. There’s the man we see on the outside, but he’s so different on the inside. And when he first meets Keagan, aka Keys, his life turns on a dime and these two are forever joined in a way neither ever expected nor necessarily wanted because there was a secret Keagan’s sister had been keeping from her and this beautiful little girl joined these two together for the rest of their lives.

Keagan McKellan is a young woman that is on a path that she feels she needs to stay on to achieve her career goals. And when things change in a way that could literally crush her, the woman she’s meant to be shows up….

I’m in love with how their relationship changed as the story progressed. There are moments of pure pain and agony combined with a passion that is off the charts HAF!!! Interspersed in between these moments were some truly laugh out loud sassiness by both Keys and Astor. They truly are meant to be with each other.

What it all comes down to is that sometimes the most painful moment in our lives can also lead us to what will be the greatest loves of our lives and everything it takes to get there may be so riddled with pain, you’re not sure you can come out on the other side. Ms. Marie has written a book that explores every emotion possible drawing me in with a story and words that saturated my heart and I’m okay with this book and these characters taking up residence for the rest of my life

OH KRISTY, YOU TOTALLY HAD ME BY CHAPTER 2

Damn this wonderful author for breaking my heart with her emotional pain-filled paragraph and devastating life-ending consequences. However, the humor touching each passage amidst the sadness and tears made each step heartwarming and hopeful too. Astor and Keagan had my heart from day one, they started out as enemies but quickly put their misguided feelings aside for the sake of caring for the precious little life that’s been handed to them. So, as they start to lean on each other, learn from each other, share life’s stories and get mentally and physically closer, stronger feelings start to blossom. And the world slowly turns again and again.. and slowly a bond is forged and beautiful new beginnings bloom into happy ever afters from the consequences of two friends sharing one fate-filled night.

Worth a credit? Yes, I loved it.. the humorous mixed in amongst the pain, the heartbreak and the sorrow. I loved the tension, the tender, the sweet, the sexy, the banter, the fun, the silly taunts and the sour in their ‘stumbling through it’ beautiful age-gap relationship. I loved the character growth, give and take and love that grew from damaged insular people who went from needing no-one to having that someone you can’t live without. And I love the dual POV excellent narration by Heather and Jason.. although Jason only read a third of it 😔😢😥😭😉. Now I’ve discovered this talented author I’ve been going over her previous books and I see Astor’s brother Vance’s story listed.. so, having met him here a few times, guess where I’m heading next?.. yup, you got it in one.

Beautiful Story! Outstanding Narration!

The Refiner is the second book in The Hands of the Potters series. I love this series! OMG! Keagan (Keys) and Astor's story is so beautifully written, emotional, hilarious, and absolutely addictive. I read it, and loved it. The audiobook version is perfection! The characters are well developed, and they are truly amazing. Keys is such a wonderful character, smart, feisty, and strong. Astor is enigmatic, very handsome, dominant, caring, and supportive. The story is an emotional roller coaster, filled with drama, humor, and romance. Some scenes are heartbreaking, others are hilarious! Heather Firth and Jason Clarke did an outstanding job with the narration. They are perfect as Astor and Keys. They definitely are on my list of favorite narrators. The sound quality is impeccable. I will listen to this audiobook again. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Hard time to like the female main character

I had a hard time to like de female main character. In some parts I just skipped because she was being veryyyy annoying!!!! And had too much conversations in her own head. And let me tell you her thoughts wore annoying and childish!

Difficult Start

The beginning is tragic, as the summary will tell you, but it was also difficult because the female lead is an over the top man hater. Without any awareness of why she is so vocal in her abject prejudice against the male of the species it’s a little grating as she voices it at every moment, both internal and external.

But, hang in there, this story is soooo worth it!!!

Be prepared to laugh, cry, and fall in love with this story.

?????WTH?????

I too bought this because of Jason Clark, but even he could not save it for me!!
I just don’t get horrible, obnoxious, immature female leads or why good writers put them in their stories🤷‍♀️
Worth the credit or coin?? Sorry not for me!!

Jason Clarke is so dreamy

The only reason I finished this book is because of Jason Clarke. The female lead is seriously the most annoying and immature woman ever!

She really had me crying so hard here.

Oh she's has done it again and I'm not even a little surprised. Kristy hooked me on the first read and honestly every book since has been another favourite, this one is certainly no different.

I kinda (not really) but maybe a little hated her for making me cry so soon into the story. When I tell you I balled. I was a MESS. A snivelling couch potato to be accurate. Lordy it was emotional. And I wasn't sure how the heck she was going to spin this journey from that point. Now don't misinterpret me... I knew full well she'd do it and make me love it. I just wasn't sure how.

It's safe to say Astor and Keagan's journey was a rollercoaster. It's emotional, impactful and at times heartwrenching but it's also so beautiful in a way that felt real and raw and comes full circle.

Astor had me sold. Man I love me a broken man with a hero complex and this man had that without even knowing it. He's all gruff, grumpy and arrogant but he's also so kind and generous and just real. Life wasn't all rainbows and neither were his emotions but I loved that about his character. He just felt real and man the man had a sinful mouth. I mean .... I couldn't not mention it.

Keagan is a favourite for me. I loved her prickly biting nature she had contructed around herself like a damn fortress. She's my favourite kind of character... the kind that has layers and depth and genuinely grows through the story realistically and flourishes. She has lost so much in her young life and despite what her mouth might spit out, her actions speak an entirely different story. She's sweet and genuine and honestly went above and beyond in a time where she could of fallen apart. I feel like she had so much strength and courage and that just spoke to me as a character.

I love these two together. Man they annoyed eachother to the extreme whilst simultaneously revving eachothers engines. It was hilarious, a little bit dysfunctional and a whole lot of emotional. But the whole time I felt it with them. They fit together perfectly, pushed eachother in ways that no one else could and they thrived in that bubble. It was meant to be and it felt like that.
Despite the truly heartbreaking beginning and the turbulent emotional journey through their story... I never questioned them being together because it felt right. The chemistry is insane and the connection a bond that truly became unbreakable.

Their beginning wasn't ideal but it made them, them.

I truly lived for the banter, bickering and teasing like they'd been married for forty years. I died at the ridiculous situations they found themselves. They just gave me life and made me feel the whole way. And I adore the brothers and the rest of the characters that are slowly peaking in along the way.
This story is bursting with great characters, a whole lot of emotion and an ending that made me cry so hard my other half thought I was having a break down.

It was happy tears but still. EMOTIONAL.

The Refiner is a fabulous addition to this series and my favourite yet though I will certainly save my final answer until we have all these handsome crazy broody brothers first.

Now listening to the story is always a much different experience than reading and that fact remains here. Heather and Jason did a phenomenal job of connecting this story, Keagan and Astors journey to us the readers in a way that reading can't. it's one thing to imagine their voices but to hear it truly is something else. especially given the emotional nature of this journey. I cried so hard so much I had to take breaks then give up and dedicate a time when I knew I wouldn't be busy and could just sit and listen. it was the safest option. but it was worth waiting for!. it didn't matter that I knew the story because it felt like the first time all over again.
what a listen it was!!.

This is the read for all those who love to cry in books.
It's so good I promise you won't be disappointed.
