Publisher's Summary

Anyone who serves God will discover sooner or later that the great hindrances he has in the Lord's work is not others but himself. He will discover that his outward man (soul) is not in harmony with his inward man (spirit). Both tend to go toward two opposite directions from each other. He will also sense the inability of his outward man to submit to the inner control of his regenerated spirit. His greatest difficulty lies in his outward man, which hinders him from using his spirit. Each one of us has as much of the same "Jacob nature" in us. Our only hope is that the Lord may blaze a way out of us, breaking our outward man - breaking it to such a degree that the inward man may come out and be seen. This is precious! This is the way to serve the Lord.

Releasing The Flow of The Spirit

To cooperate with God in His breaking of our outward man is vital and a normal process given us in our day to day human experiences we must learn to view and embrace all things as God sees them and not carnally. This book shows us The how and why of Gods dealings with us to work out of us that which blocks and restricts The free flowing of Life in our Union with God .

Awesome!

Great great teaching by Watchman Née that every christian needs to learn. Very rarely witnessed and taught in the western church.... The breaking of the outer man. Wonderful narrator. Thank you for making this an audiobook!!!

Audiobook was a let down

I know Watchman Nee is a profound Christian writer, and I had heard some great reviews for this book, so I bought the audio. I wish I hadn't. It was extremely boring and the narrator was monotone and showed little emotion throughout.
Books like this can be pretty deep and I think require a more focused read (with highlighter and pen at the ready to take notes). The audiobook really doesn't do it justice. I felt like I completely missed important points because of boredom.

A book that helps in our Christian life

This book really opened my eyes to our dealings that we receive daily. These dealings are so our mingled spirit may be released. Our Lord Jesus Christ needs to break through the outer man for the release of the Spirit within us.

A must read for all in the church!

Watchman Nee, in his typical fashion, connects us directly to the root of the powerlessness of the church in this present time. As Paul puts it, the flesh cannot submit to the law of God. It must be crucified to free the soul to be a true channel of the outflow of the Spirit. The process God takes us to accomplish this and our response to his dealings are powerfully demonstrated by Watchman Nee in this book. I believe every believer will benefit from this book; and I recommend it without any reservations.

timeless

Timeless and always relevant; something to be listened to again and again. The narration is not rushed or overly dramaticized, which helps make the spiritually weighty material easier to ruminate and digest.

If you want to be a real ministry of Christ and His word you should read this book.

The book explains why we have the discipline of the Holy Spirit, which are the sufferings meted out to us for the purpose of breaking our outer man.
Without the breaking of the other man there are obstacles in our being which prevents us from ministering life to the church and the Saints.
It explains a positive purpose of all the trials that we go through. As Paul said death works in him so that life would work in us.
