Story
Few people are aware that John Moses Browning - a tall, humble, cerebral man born in 1855 and raised as a Mormon in the American West - was the mind behind many of the world-changing firearms that dominated more than a century of conflict. He invented the design used in virtually all modern pistols, created the most popular hunting rifles and shotguns, and conceived the machine guns that proved decisive not just in World Wars I and II but nearly every major military action since. Yet few in America knew his name until he was into his 60s.

In November 1965, some 450 men of the First Battalion, Seventh Cavalry, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, were dropped by helicopter into a small clearing in the Ia Drang Valley. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Three days later, only two and a half miles away, a sister battalion was chopped to pieces. Together, these actions at the landing zones X-Ray and Albany constituted one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War. How these men persevered makes a vivid portrait of war at its most inspiring and devastating.

Story
Two months after D-Day, the Allies found themselves in a stalemate in Normandy, having suffered enormous casualties attempting to push through hedgerow country. Troops were spent, and American tankers, lacking the tactics and leadership to deal with the terrain, were losing their spirit. General George Patton and the other top US commanders needed an officer who knew how to break the impasse and roll over the Germans - they needed one man with the grit and the vision to take the war all the way to the Rhine. Patton and his peers selected Maurice Rose.

Love them or hate them, guns are woven deeply into the American soul. Names like Colt, Smith & Wesson, Winchester, and Remington are legendary. Yet few people are aware of the roles these men played at a crucial time in United States history, from westward expansion in the 1840s, through the Civil War, and into the dawn of the Gilded Age. Through personal drive and fueled by bloodshed, they helped propel the young country into the forefront of the world's industrial powers. Their creations helped save a nation divided, while planting seeds that would divide the country again later.

Story
Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s.

Accurate Description
- By USMC VIETVET on 07-02-19
By: James M. Dixon
Publisher's Summary
The Rifle is the inspirational story of a 28-year-old US Marine, Andrew Biggio, who returned home from combat in Afghanistan and Iraq, full of questions about the price of war. He found answers from those who survived the costliest war of all - WWII veterans.
It began when Biggio bought a 1945 M1 Garand Rifle, the most common rifle used in WWII, to honor his great uncle, a US Army soldier who died on the hills of the Italian countryside. When Biggio showed the gun to his neighbor, WWII veteran Corporal Joseph Drago, it unlocked memories Drago had kept unspoken for 50 years. On the spur of the moment, Biggio asked Drago to sign the rifle. Thus began this Marine's mission to find as many WWII veterans as he could, get their signatures on the rifle, and document their stories.
For two years, Biggio traveled across the country to interview America's last-living WWII veterans. Each time he put the M1 Garand Rifle in their hands, their eyes lit up with memories triggered by holding the weapon that had been with them every step of the war. With each visit and every story told to Biggio, the veterans signed their names to the rifle. Ninety-six signatures now cover that rifle, each a reminder of the price of war and the courage of our soldiers.

Wonderful read! Our Heroic WWII Veterans
The greatest warriors to pick up the spear. Fantastic book! The author truly did what many fail to do nowadays. Listen to those who came before us. Our eternal heroes, the greatest generation. I loved this book. My grandfathers one in the 104th Timberwolves and the other a Marine in the South Pacific passed away before I was old enough to ask them what their experiences were like in WWII. Because of the research the author has done. I feel even more prideful of my grandfathers service. I have to thank him for his service in the the Marines during the GWOT campaign and for the veterans he talked to.

Never Can Get Enough
Thank you Andrew Biggio for your outstanding book. Just as you can't get enough strong coffee every morning, it's impossible to get enough stories from veterans of WWII. Only a few are left now and given the state of the country, it might be for the best considering they bought our freedom with their blood. Our freedom that we are letting slip away into tyranny. But with these stories, the reader can live the experience vicariously with the men who fought. What an interesting and varied group of veterans. It's truly amazing how different every experience is. There just aren't enough good things to say about this book and the M1 Rifle that inspired it. BRAVO!!!

A N IMPORTANT TRIBUTE TO OUR HEROES
God bless Andrew for capturing the heroic tales of these very special men, before their stories were lost forever to the passing of time. The fact that he had the foresight to have them sign the gun was a stroke of genius. It clearly transported them back, most often not to happy times, but IMPORTANT times in their lives. These men would have been an honor to know in person.
It is sad that we STILL don't do enough to support the emotional, physical and financial needs of our veterans. They give EVERYTHING, and we repay them with so little.
Don't hesitate to listen to this book, it is a SOLID FIVE STARS!
