Well done!

cosy-mystery, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, law-enforcement, murder-investigation, England*****

I really hoped someone would murder the blackguard but was afraid it would turn out to be another Orient Express! That's how well each character was portrayed, especially our redoubtable freelance cook who is as capable of providing excellent meals as using her observations and acute logic. The plot is twisty and diabolical, the ride on the Thames beautiful. And it made me aware of the narrowed thinking that had me thinking that paddlewheelers only cruised the Mississippi! The publisher's blurb is pretty good, but doesn't convey the clarity of it all. I read it straight through because it made me!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Joffe Books via NetGalley. Thank you for introducing me to this author's writing!
Two years later I was lucky to get the audio performed wonderfully by Charlotte Worthing.

Twists, turns, and food!

A goddess of food and intelligence Starling makes a terrific heroine. A fun listen i stayed up half the night to find out the finish. Narrator is strong, plot has twists, a joy of culinary experience as well. I am hooked on this series

Brilliant and unique

in all my years I have never read a thriller set on a paddle steamer, so this was an unusual, and educational listen. The way our protagonist works her way round the clues, leaves you in suspense until the very end. A highly recommended listen that is very well written and brilliantly narrated.

Terrible

What has happened to Faith Martin books !!, I have read many and found them a bit farfetched but enjoyable. This is so badly written. Nonsense story, inconsistencies and dreadful dialog. No one has said "me old china" in decades. Haven't got to the end and probably won't. Frankly, I don't care 'who done it'

Great read

A delicious who done it. Travelling cook Jenny Starling finds herself faced with another murder to solve and the police are none to happy with her presence. Most enjoyable.

Too Far Fetched

I have liked this author. But this is a terrible book. The premis is silly. Half of the food described would take three people to cook let alone one. The plot is so far fetched to be believable. It is going back!

so so

slow to get going, listened to a couple of these now and it feels a bit like Agatha Christie stories being recycled.

Disappointing

I’ve really enjoyed most of the Jenny Starling books …..started with later ones and worked back ! This however was not up to the usual standard . The characters were very interesting, but the plot was a tad unbelievable. Somehow it felt disjointed . First one of the series that failed for me .

An entertaining Listen

This was enjoyable enough. The story follows asking the lines of others in the series, but at least the killer's identity wasn't obvious.

All-could-have-Who-dunnit solved by amiable cook.

Couldn't stop listening as chef noted details & solved mystery. Narrator personified each character well.

best one yet

all the characters were very well fleshed out and real, great mix of humour and sadness. I didn't figure this one out at all which made it that much more enjoyable.
