Story
Five long years have passed since the annihilation of three Roman legions in the wilds of Germania. Varus, the general who led the ill-fated army, is long dead, and the bones of his 15,000 legionaries moulder in the forests. But not all the Romans were slain in the ambush. Centurion Tullus, a seasoned veteran, survived, and now he lives for revenge upon the tribal chieftain Arminius, who masterminded the ambush. Tullus will stop at nothing to kill his bitterest enemy or to recover his legion's lost Eagle.

Publisher's Summary
The third novel in The Forgotten Legion trilogy takes the main protagonists from North Africa back to Rome in the build-up to the assassination of Julius Caesar.
Having survived the perils of a journey across half the world, Romulus and Tarquinius are press-ganged into the legions, which are under imminent threat of annihilation by the Egyptians. Meanwhile in Rome, Romulus's twin sister Fabiola lives in fear for her life, loved by Brutus, but wooed by Marcus Antonius, his deadly enemy. Soon after, Romulus fights at Zela, the vicious battle where Caesar famously said, 'Veni, vidi, vici'. Tarquinius, separated from Romulus in the chaos of war, hides in Alexandria, searching for guidance. But mortal danger awaits them both. From the battlefields of Asia Minor and North Africa, to the lawless streets of Rome and the gladiator arena, they face death daily, until on the Ides of March, the twins are reunited and must decide either to back or to betray Caesar on his day of destiny.

A fourth book please.
An excellent book couldn't wait to read it after first two novels, anxiously hoping for a fourth book in the series in the near future. Narrator Michael Praed was easy to listen to and not Americanized and fake.will definitely be listening to some more books narrated by Mr Praed.

Compelling
This has been a compelling trilogy with all roads leading to Rome and the plot to assassinate Julius Caesar. There were very sad moments along the road, like the death of Brennus, whom I had become quite fond of. I wish I could say the same of Fabiola, but her conniving finally caught up with her and it was really the only outcome.
After becoming emotionally invested in the characters and their lives over three books, the following book I started next day just seemed to be so dead. The sign of a truly first class writer.
And, one should not forget the narrator, who goes a long way to either make or break a book.

Consistently gripping
To give an idea of what this trilogy is like, cross the epic scope of the movie Gladiator with the propulsive storytelling style of the show 24 and you will begin to have some idea of how gripping it is.

A Great trilogy
An excellent conclusion to the trilogy which mixes fact and function into great entertainment. I hope Ben Kane will do a fourth book in this Forgotten legion series as there are still plot lines to follow and questions awaiting answers.
I thoroughly recommend it and I have listened to many in this genre.

Captivating
I totally immersed myself in this series. I enjoyed the dynamics of the plot and historical context in which the books were set. A magnificent way to escape.
