Creating for your own pleasure - whether you're writing a novel, composing songs, or painting a landscape - can seem pointless. It's tempting to focus on pursuing money and fame rather than the process itself. But as Srini Rao warns, creating then turns into a chore that can harm your self-esteem and suck the pleasure out of life rather than being a source of joy.

Art & Fear explores the way art gets made, the reasons it often doesn't get made, and the nature of the difficulties that cause so many artists to give up along the way. This is a book about what it feels like to sit in your studio or classroom, at your wheel or keyboard, easel or camera, trying to do the work you need to do. It is about committing your future to your own hands, placing free will above predestination, choice above chance. It is about finding your own work.

Think of The War of Art as tough love...for yourself. Since 2002, The War of Art has inspired people around the world to defeat "resistance"; to recognize and knock down dream-blocking barriers and to silence the naysayers within us. Resistance kicks everyone's butt, and the desire to defeat it is equally as universal. The War of Art identifies the enemy that every one of us must face, outlines a battle plan to conquer this internal foe, then pinpoints just how to achieve the greatest success.

Story
Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

In his early 20s, Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent, rose to the heights of fame and power in the cutthroat music business. A decade ago, the multi-platinum selling rap artist decided to pivot. His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin's family. The series quickly became "appointment" television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network - the most lucrative deal in premium cable history.

Publisher's Summary
The Rogue Artist's Survival Guide is an undisciplined, story-centric, offbeat, and honest approach to demystify what it takes to become a full-time artist. It is designed to help you navigate the clusterfudge that is the art world. A decade ago, there was no guidebook to lead me away from the overcrowded and overly pompous art market toward success. This audiobook is all about blazing your own trail and creating your career as an artist, instead of waiting around to be discovered.

BIG THUMBS UP!!
Well, I am an artist! This guy speaks the truth, is hilarious, and gave me a great perspective on the meaning of persistence. REAL persistence. I now have hope! I feel like I made a friend and am no longer trying to go it alone, explaining to everyone what I am trying to do and justifying what I am making up. Thank you (said with awe, and say hi to Klee for me who is obviously the bomb too!)!! I can't wait for your next book!

Must Read for Artists
This book is not so much about what to DO on your journey as an artist, but rather how to THINK, which is much more powerful. Rafi did an amazing job putting together a wealth of insights on the mindset that allows artists to break free from the traditional system and claim their power as individuals. This is a must read for any artist who is struggling to get past the fear and the mental barriers that keep them stuck. Rafi provides very real and practical advice on the inner game of becoming an artist by sharing his story and his experiences about how he built a career that defied tradition. However, it is not your typical, “Here’s my proven method on how to be successful so you can too!” It’s an honest, no BS framework for approaching your artistic career with honesty, heart, confidence, joy, and self expression. If you want to be an artist, then stop reading this review and start reading the book already!

A Different Take on How To Be an Artist
There were so many times listening to this book when I wanted to stop the recording and send Rafi an email to comment my agreement with what he was saying. Being an artist is both the most wonderful and the most difficult career... but it isn't made better by all the baloney going on in our heads or in those who would discourage or take advantage of us.
Rafi helps dispell the baloney.

So glad he decided to push himself out of his comfort zone to make this book a reality. Now it's my turn 😊

I really enjoyed the authors approach to addressing the many things we all face. The book is full of insights about challenging our beliefs and conquering fears. A must read for anyone, creative or not, who is interested in doing the thing that they always wanted to do but were too afraid to. This book shined a light on some of the excuses I've made that has held me back from being the most awesome version of myself. A great read I highly recommend.

Very inspirational for anyone. Not just for artists. A must read or listen for anyone that need a loving "reminder-kick-in-the-butt nudge to get moving forward. Going to listen more than once. It brings a varm blanket over my sometimes very wounded inner child and still gets me moving when needed. Thank you Rafi (and klee) to bringing this book to us!
