It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

One of the best post-apocalyptic series!
This is a continuation of the original series The Last Survivors. I highly recommend listening to that series first so you'll know more about these characters and the world they live in. I've already enjoyed this series before, but this box set includes an all new short story, book 2.5. I couldn't miss out on more of Kirby, Bray, and William! It felt like a nice reunion with old friends/characters. I always enjoy hearing Sean Runnette's narration! Book 2.5 is most definitely a nice addition to the series! Still sad to see this series had ended, but I look forward to more of what T.W. Piperbrook will write in the future!

Amazing.
When I was looking at the beginning of the original series a review caught my eye about how terrible and nasty the characters were. This person never read past the first few chapters of book 1 in the entire series.
I loved every second of this series and urge anyone thinking about reading it to hurry up and do so. Well written, well performed, satisfying ending that gives you hope for the characters future.

A fantastic story from the first to the last book.
This series is in my opinion a modern classic! It has been one of my favorite world's to sink into and is full of peril and triumph. The audible version is read nearly perfectly. I feel the inflections and tone used for Kirby's voice to be a little too masculine at times though. This could momentarily be distracting. Not enough to tarnish the overall performance. The story encompasses a vast cast of characters, locales, challenges and twists and turns. The characters evolve and I felt myself invested in their outcomes. insurmountable odds are faced and at times overcome but just as many times we lose good characters to the reality of the world that has been imagined so thoroughly. Though I feel myself wanting more. I still find myself thoroughly satisfied with the conclusion.

better than the last survivors
I've read all 6 books the last survivors and loved them but The Ruins is another level I'm just in the middle of book 2 and its just fantastic, when I'm not listening to the audio book I'm thinking about it. I really recommend the last survivors but The Ruins is just fantastic.
Hope fully one day I'll be watching all these characters on TV in a series as it would be a great tv series.

Great value series.
Thought provoking, gripping and suspenseful. However, at times, the storyline was a bit repetitive. the villains are pretty much all the same with similar sinister motives. not enough cursing and more barbaric language imo. The people's vocabulary seems abundant, yet they lack knowledge of the most common tools and weapons. Doesn't make too much sense at times. Having said all that, it does make you think about what would happen if majority of the Earth's population is wiped away and how humanity would survive and rebuild.

A wonderful escape
A very enjoyable escape. Fast paced and well written story. Not particularly complex and not pretentious as some writers tend to be, easy to follow a listen to. Sometimes I like that, and don't want something overly deep and meaningful.
Sean Runnette is his usual superb self, with excellent voices for the characters and generally an outstanding performance.
I highly recommend this series, but make sure you read or listen to "Last Survivors " series first.

Interesting storyline that drags you in.
Interesting storyline and it was great to find out what happened to Bray, William & Kirby.
Felt that the last two to three hours dragged on a little too long.
