Publisher's Summary

A powerful personal journey to find meaning and life lessons in the words of a wildly popular 13th century poet.

Rumi's inspiring and deceptively simple poems have been called ecstatic, mystical, and devotional. To writer and activist Melody Moezzi, they became a lifeline. In The Rumi Prescription, we follow her path of discovery as she translates Rumi's works for herself - to gain wisdom and insight in the face of a creative and spiritual roadblock. With the help of her father, who is a lifelong fan of Rumi's poetry, she immerses herself in this rich body of work, and discovers a 13th-century prescription for modern life.

Addressing isolation, distraction, depression, fear, and other everyday challenges we face, the book offers a roadmap for living with intention and ease, and embracing love at every turn - despite our deeply divided and chaotic times. Most of all, it presents a vivid reminder that we already have the answers we seek, if we can just slow down to honor them.

  • You went out in search of gold far and wide, but all along you were gold on the inside.
  • Become the sky and the clouds that create the rain, not the gutter that carries it to the drain.
  • You already own all the sustenance you seek. If only you'd wake up and take a peek.
  • Quit being a drop. Make yourself an ocean.

Beautiful story - Needed now more than ever

This was a much needed read / listen in a time where it feels the whole world could use a prescription for anxiety and fear. It felt like both a love letter to humanity and the author's father -- who you want to meet in person by the time you're done listening. The writing is direct, humorous, warm, and disarming all at the same time. Can't wait to read more from her.

Rumi Remedies Life’s toughest challenges.

The author has shared deep insight into human psychological states and struggles eloquently. The beauty of this book is the solutions in the form of Rumi’s eternally soulful poetry. I will go back to this book to seek wisdom and healing.

I hope this author continues to translate Rumi as her translation are unique and rhyming. Her conversations with her guide and father are illuminating and enjoyable.

As a physician, I see immense value in the author’s work and even want to post this prescription in my offices. I may even get them printed for my patients. It's a book worth reading and sharing. A bought a hardcover for my office library.

Brilliant & captivating

I expected to love this book. And I do. It touches on things that I take a deep interest in- spirituality, mental health, culture, faith...Rumi (albeit my limited knowledge of him & his poetry).

But I didn’t expect the writing itself to be so brilliant. The author is truly gifted as she seems to effortlessly weave language together while maintaining the integrity of the content.

I didn’t expect to develop such a deep affection for her beloved father, who’s wisdom, compassion & reason reminds me of my own immigrant father. Her father is also hilarious & impossible not to love.

I love that the message is so universal, though the cultural & religious lens is quite specific to the author. Her father & her candor are themselves gifts to the reader. I’m so grateful to learn more Rumi in this way.

I did not love the narrator because I’ve heard the author speak & she’s a much better story teller. That said, you get used it. And it’s worth it.

Thank you Melody Moezzi for sharing your legacy in writing this book. I think you’ve done right by him.

Simply the best

This was an amazing audible listen. I now want to start from the beginning, again, and also purchase a hard copy, a highlighter, and a journal. As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression, with a history of thyroid disease, this book spoke to me on so many different levels. I laughed, I cried, I learned, I grew, I listened with an open mind. The reader is perfect. I love her soothing voice. Melodys dad is like my own, loving and nurturing, but doesn’t speak in poem so I loved this side of him. I will be purchasing a Rumi book of poems now, as well. Five stars all the way up!

A triad river of ancient and modern wisdom !!!

No matter what is your background, religion, color or ethnicity, if you are feeling down and your souls is craving some light ,this book will kindle your way. Today was the first time that I wondered why their is only 5 stars to review a book. The Rumi prescription deserves ten stars. Outstanding selfless memoir that poured the wisdom of three generations in one book. Not only it hand selected beautiful verses for Rumi , but also the way the author’s dad Ahmad interpreted these versus to her and how Melody applied it to her life, created a triad river of wisdom .
In my opinion the author’s choice to use Persian words through the book adds allot of value to its message.
It amazed me how brave and generous Melody is to discuss the most intimate details of her mental struggle in order to help others get better. Because of this book I’m in a serene calmer emotionally right now . I loved the book so much that I ordered the hard copy to keep as a reference.
The narrator performance was outstanding as well.

Personal and powerful

Excellent narration highlighting major life issues and how an ancient Turkish mystic and poet's words have never been more apt for finding beauty in the mundane and downright repressive.

Insightful, thought provoking, and brilliant.

This book drew me in from the first page, so wonderfully brought to life by beautiful narration. Each prescription was eye opening, self challenging and an emotional journey of realisation. I found myself regularly laughing, often hoping, sometimes praying, and occasionally crying. If you’ve found this book while searching for ‘Rumi’ as I did then I highly recommend you take this journey first.

A good Rumi experience

Some very thought provoking moments here. Like about ego, anger and arrogance going hand in hand.
Some parts I identified with in the book, however I didn't like the part where Melody disrespects mosques that was uncalled for.
Mosques mean different things to different people. One should always be respectful no matter what we think of a concept as there can be multiple perspectives to something only if we try to see differently.
Talking about the beloved in the book, it may be that the beloved is a Mosque to someone. So please bear that in mind. I find so much peace from such a stressful life when I go to my local Mosque and yes women are free to enter and be part of Mosques.
Nevertheless, thank you for sharing the Rumi Prescription, it's inspirational and much respect to your father for teaching you it.

Rumi’s poetry finely enter into my life

Melody relates Rumi’s wisdom to her life and I through her story I managed to relate to Rumi in a more pragmatic way that makes sense . So, thanks Melody for sharing your story and relating your healing to love ... unconditional love to yourself and to others. Love does not discriminate on any ground and everyone can love as everyone needs to be loved and love !

Rumi Remedy

This book is my first real introduction to the works of Rumi.
I am an intrepid Explorer of inner space and all of the authors that I enjoy including Thich Nhat Hahn, Deepak Chopra and Ram Dass reference Rumi quite often in their books which inspired me to seek more information about his poetry and philosophy.
I enjoyed The Rumi Prescription immensely.
Melody Moezza interweaves his poetry beautifully into the story of her life and provides a unique perspective of
how the philosophy of a Persian mystic poet from the 13th century can still resonate today.
