Story
When the war finally ended in May 1945, Lieutenant Danny McClain made good on his promise to come back for Anya in Holland. He expected her to put up a fight but instead found her exhausted and utterly broken. Maybe it was unfair, asking her to marry him when she was so vulnerable. But this much he knew: He would spend a lifetime helping to make her whole again. The war had taken everything from Anya - her family, her friends, her home, her faith. She clung to the walls she'd fortressed around her heart, but what future did she have apart from Danny?

Cleary, North Carolina, is a sleepy mountain town, the kind of place where criminal activity is usually limited to parking violations. Not so, lately. Four women have disappeared from Cleary over the past two years. And there's always a blue ribbon left near the spot where each of the women was last seen. There are no bodies, no other clues, and no suspicion as to who their abductor might be. And now, another woman has disappeared without a trace.

Publisher's Summary
What could possibly drive a pastor's wife to run away from home?
After years of frustration from life in a church fishbowl, Annie McGregor walks away from it all and boards a plane for Colorado. She has no way of knowing her college sweetheart is headed to the same cabin in the Rockies, terrified and gravely wounded. Their unexpected reunion couldn't have come at a worse time. Or could it?
Bewildered that God would allow Michael Dean to walk back into her life, Annie pleads with Him to keep her heart true to her husband and her family. God answers her prayer, but in a way she would never expect.
Written by a former pastor's wife, Annie's story provides a rare look inside the family life of those in the ministry, particularly the unique pressures on those who marry men of God.

Ok, but slow & a little Boring 🤨
I didn’t like the narrator, sometimes u couldn’t distinguish one voice from the other (men versus women), only a few were distinguishable. The book was too long for the story that needed to be told. But in the end I did like the story, just needed a better narrator with more of a range in voices.

Good, solid read. However it is the type you CAN put down, but then find yourself wondering what will happen next. I suggest this book for a read when you cannot stay up all night finishing it, but want one you DO want to finish. Avid readers will hopefully understand my review! Sweet conclusion.

A Total Failure
The narration of this book was so irritating that I couldn’t finish the book. Probably not all the narrator’s fault because she didn’t have a lot to work with. Trite dialog, unbelievable plot line and characters with little redeeming features.

Poorly narrated and poorly edited
I was disappointed in the quality of the narration of this book. The voices were just weird, and the narration included a lot of pauses where it didn't make sense to have a pause. Also there was one place where there was clearly an editing mishap, when the narrator said, "Let's go back to..."
The story itself was somewhat contrived. I wanted to see a little more growth in the characters. I hated seeing them always at each other's throats. Not everyone deals with anger and frustration the same way and it would have been nice to see a little more variability in the characters. Also There were some loose ends that were just left hanging.
On a positive note, Annie's frustration and loneliness was well portrayed and seemed appropriate for her character.
If you decide to read this book, i highly recommend skipping the audio. You will probably like it much better that way.

Good
This was the first one of this authors books that I have read. It was good with a lot of unexpected twists and turns. There were some places where I felt it was l little bit too dramatic. However, I liked the story and enjoyed listening to it.
