Publisher's Summary

An Outer Banks novella.

I want to be like this stretch of freshly cleared shore. At times I think, I'm ready. Let the waves wash over me. But then I catch myself running from the tide just before it happens....

New York editor Jen Gibbs knew when she bought Evan Hall's next blockbuster book, it would change her career. She didn't know it would change her life. But after being sent along on the European book tour, at Evan's request, she has made a promise she's not sure she can keep - she's crossed professional lines and accepted Evan's surprising engagement proposal. Now she's scared to death. In Jen's family, marriage represents the death of every dream a woman holds for herself.

Can the revelation of her mother's long-held secret open the doors to Jen's future and change her beliefs about life and love?

follow up to a great story

Loved this short follow up in this delightful series of the Carolina books. Not only following up on the main characters but also giving us new information as well.

Great lil book

A nice ending to the story keeper. I end this book with a big smile on my face, if you've read the story keeper this is a must.

A waste!

I got this book because I had just finished The Story Keeper and was desperate for more. This was not it. I knew it was short, but I expected to experience more of Evan and Jen’s relationship and about Jen’s mother and her history. Neither happened. The author went on long tangents about meatless things, but when it came to the proposal, it was just a brief recap. When it came time in the story for Jen to tell Lilly more about their mother and her family, all that was actually said for the readers was, “It’s a sad story.” The author never fills us in more about their mother, her history or how it ties into the storykeeper. There was so much potential for a full book exploring their mother and their ancestors but it feels like the author took the lazy way out and made this novella instead. If you go in with low expectations, maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did. I read a poor review before I purchased that I ignored because I was so invested in the characters and the interesting history but I wish I had passed on this book instead.

Amazing continuation of a great story

Lisa Wingate‘s ability to tell the stories and keep the reader enthralled in what is going to happen and yet give us education in history on places of the world.

No comparison

I got this book because I had just finished the first. This didn’t deserve to be a stand alone and could have just been an epilogue in the first. Disappointing since I loved the first one.

Great story

I love these characters but wish it was longer and also another book in the series.

Over all good story, the reader is good, I like her voice, story was too short though, I want more about these characters
