Story
Lewis Howes grew up as an athlete. He was a two-sport All-American and went on to play football professionally. Howes then transferred his competitive nature from sports to business, building his podcast, The School of Greatness, into a global phenomenon. But his whole identity was built on misguided beliefs about what "masculinity" was: dangerous, false ideas learned from teammates and coaches in locker rooms and stereotypes in the media. Like so many men, Howes grew up to be angry, frustrated, and always chasing something that was never enough.

Do you ride the escalator or do you take the stairs? No matter how you define success, it always requires one thing: self-discipline. But as popular speaker and strategist Rory Vaden explains, we live in an "escalator world", one that's filled with shortcuts, quick fixes, and distractions that make it all too easy to slide into procrastination, compromise, and mediocrity. What seems like an easier path is really much harder in the end - and, most important, it won't take you where you want to go.

Publisher's Summary
When a career-ending injury left elite athlete and professional football player Lewis Howes out of work and living on his sister's couch, he decided he needed to make a change for the better. He started by reaching out to people he admired, searching for mentors, and applying his past coaches' advice from sports to life off the field. Lewis did more than bounce back: He built a multimillion-dollar online business and is now a sought-after business coach, speaker, and podcast host.
In the New York Times best seller The School of Greatness, Howes shares the essential tips and habits he gathered in interviewing "the greats" on his wildly popular podcast of the same name. In discussion with people like Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and Pencils of Promise CEO Adam Braun, Howes figured out that greatness is unearthed and cultivated from within. The masters of greatness are not successful because they got lucky or are innately more talented but because they applied specific habits and tools to embrace and overcome adversity in their lives.
A framework for personal development, The School of Greatness gives you the tools, knowledge, and actionable resources you need to reach your potential. Howes anchors each chapter with a specific lesson he culled from his greatness "professors" and his own experiences to teach you how to create a vision, develop hustle, and use dedication, mindfulness, joy, and love to reach goals. His lessons and practical exercises prove that anyone is capable of achieving success and that we can all strive for greatness in our everyday lives.

Any additional comments?
I love the podcast, and this is a great book. I was really excited when the audiobook came out and exchanged the ebook for it. I'm not sure what happened, but Lewis' narration is bad. Really, really bad. Unless the audiobook is redone, buy the book instead.

Read the book, don't listen
What did you like best about The School of Greatness? What did you like least?
I haven't listened to the podcast, but I appreciated the content of the book a lot. The reflection and actionable items in each chapter were super helpful. I had trouble though with the cadence of the author's reading. It drove me crazy, actually. It's a great resource, just read it, don't listen.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
His. cadence is all. over. the place. I loved the content, almost couldn't get past the narration.

Very disappointing...
This book was one of the most frustrating books, in the personal development category that I've ever read. I was torn between tossing, virtually of course, the book in the trash to hanging on to give the author a chance to change direction. So many things I could mention in this review so I'll just focus on these:
1) Howes never should have narrated this. Worst bit of narration I've come across in awhile here on Audible. It was distracting and took away from my focus on the content. Was he trying to read from cue cards?
2) There truly is nothing new under the sun but after Howes mentioned that he "makes his bed" over 7 different times, the point was lost. I get that he felt this was a true benefit in his life but it felt like he was beating it into the ground. No mom needed here...
3) Howes focused way, way too much on his own perspective. I was looking for that break in his story to truly step out and focus on "how" to apply some of the knowledge he gained from his podcast guests. His attempts to do so left much to be desired. Most of it is just retreads and rehashed "stuff" that's been out there for ages.
Sorry Lewis, this was a very weak piece of work. Nothing personal. This was my first interaction with your work in any form. I'd not listened to your podcasts, or reviewed your "" school of greatness "content. You were mentioned by someone and I thought I'd check out your work. Just my opinion...

ego much?
He is not a narrator. Listening to this was torture. He should have spent some of his money on a good voice actor. This book had some good points, nothing you wont find on others. I started fast forwarding after listening to how great he is for the hundredth time. This was written to gain subscribers for his newsletters. Go get anything by Brian Tracy or Ziglar instead.

I wanted to like this book
But the narration was terrible. I know Lewis gave it his best shot, but he clearly does not have any experience at the difficult task of narrating a book. It really distracted from his message. Overall, there was really nothing new in this book. I enjoyed the stories of people's real life successes.

Cheesey re-tread book with a horrible performance
What disappointed you about The School of Greatness?
The reading of it was totally amateurish and unrefined. Author admitted that the only reason he chose to read it was to appease his friends and family members.
Has The School of Greatness turned you off from other books in this genre?
Mostly likely yes.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lewis Howes’s performances?
No.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The School of Greatness?
Almost the entire book was from material that can gained taken from old Wayne Dyer lectures or Deepak Chopra. There is almost no original thought or material.
Any additional comments?
Very disappointing book, and the reviews are very misleading. It's unfortunate that Audible seems to edit out bad reviews. It would have saved me a lot of time and money to read diverse reviews of this book, instead of cultivated ones in order to sell more books.

Just because you wrote it...
You shouldn't necessarily read it!
Love Lewes and his podcast, but the man can NOT read a manuscript.
Listened to a painful hour then gave up.
Sentences split in half, he doesn't realise when he's doing "voices" and emphasis in the wrong places.
I'd like to know if the content is great, what I struggled through seemed good, but my anger at such poor reading nearly made me crash the car.
Please, record this with a professional artist, you just do the foreword and stick to the podcast.

This is a painful listen.....
It has some great content of if you can beyond the fact it sounds like a remedial reading class, you can almost hear the finger underneath the words as they are read. It's incredibly difficult to listen to what is actually being said. I actually listened to Lewis Howes other book the Mask of Masculinity and there was no issue. Lewis please re-record this. It has ruined what I'm sure is a great book.

Justified to write a book but not narrate it
I just couldn’t get into this audio book, the narration was really poor. He continually stumbled over sentences and grammar, making for quite a disjointed listen.
Content was interesting, albeit slightly lacking in humility but I guess he’s earn’t the right to beat his chest a bit.
Some of the exercises and messages contained in the book are very effective. I’ve implemented a couple to good effect.
Wish I’d bought the hard copy.

Excellent book
This book is very well explained and I got from it that good habits make the difference each day. Lewis gave different examples and activities which can help me to achieve the style of life I want.

Brilliant
Okay... so I have to say I was impressed. I have decided to apply some of the concepts in this book and I have to admit I'm so much happier and better for it.

Resources ??
I loved this book but am finding it hard to locate the resources he speaks of throughout.
I have sent away to free subscriptions, but nothing. Ah well.

alright
this was an alright book. he went over a lot of pretty common ideas around personal development. found some parts useful due to the authors story or take on it.

Great
Loved this audio book and great that it is read by Lewis Howes himself. A few places to book mark and go over!

really worthwhile read.
Already suggested this book to several people. Not just a positive thinking book that has no relevance.
