A pathbreaking neuroscientist reveals how our social instincts turn Me into Us, but turn Us against Them - and what we can do about it. The great dilemma of our shrinking world is simple: never before have those we disagree with been so present in our lives. The more globalization dissolves national borders, the more clearly we see that human beings are deeply divided on moral lines - about everything from tax codes to sexual practices to energy consumption - and that, when we really disagree, our emotions turn positively tribal.

Decades of avoiding egg yolks, choosing margarine over butter, and replacing the real foods of our ancestors with low-fat, processed, packaged substitutes have left us with an obesity epidemic, ever-rising rates of chronic disease, and, above all, total confusion about what to eat and why.

Publisher's Summary
In this audiobook, New York Times best-selling author and 2018 Templeton Award nominee Gregg Braden crosses the traditional boundaries of science and spirituality to answer the timeless question at the core of our existence - Who are we? - and to reveal science-based techniques that awaken our uniquely human experiences of deep intuition, precognition, advanced states of self-healing, and much more!
In one of the great ironies of the modern world, the science that was expected to solve life’s mysteries has done just the opposite. New discoveries have led to more unanswered questions, created deeper mysteries, and brought us to the brink of forbidden territory when it comes to explaining our origin and existence. The Science of Self-Empowerment invites us on a journey beyond Darwin’s theory of evolution to explore these discoveries and the facts they reveal:
Fact 1. Our origin - Modern humans appeared suddenly on earth approximately 200,000 years ago, with the advanced brain, nervous system, and capabilities that set them apart from all other known forms of life already developed, rather than having developed slowly and gradually over a long period of time.
Fact 2. Missing physical evidence - The relationships shown on the conventional tree of human evolution are speculative connections only. While they are believed to exist, a 150-year search has failed to produce the physical evidence that confirms the relationships shown on the evolutionary family tree.
Fact 3. New DNA evidence - The comparison of DNA between ancient Neanderthals, previously thought to be our ancestors, and early humans tells us that we did not descend from the Neanderthals.
Fact 4. A rare DNA fusion - Advanced genome analysis reveals that the DNA that sets us apart from other primates, including in our advanced brain and nervous system, is the result of an ancient and precise fusion of genes occurring in a way that suggests something beyond evolution made our humanness possible.
Fact 5. Our extraordinary abilities - We are born with the capacity to self-heal, to self-regulate longevity, to activate an enhanced immune response, and to experience deep intuition, sympathy, empathy, and, ultimately, compassion - and to do each of these on demand.
Beyond any reasonable doubt, The Science of Self-Empowerment reveals that we’re not what we’ve been told, and much more than we’ve ever imagined.

Who Are We?
I just recently discovered Gregg Braden when I saw a show he did called Missing Links. I watched all the episodes multiple times, so I decided to pick up this audible since it's his newest release.
What an amazing listening experience!
I remember watching that Ben Stein movie, Expelled, years ago and thinking many of the ideas of Intelligent Design (ID) made a lot of sense. Being non-religious, though, and more of the "spiritual not religious" types, I had a hard time with ID and just how to make sense of it.
Braden makes a strong case for humans being the product of design without all the religious elements like creationism and such. Having questions about human evolution and being open to answers that don't conform to the scientific mainstream isn't something relegated solely to evangelical Christianity.
Braden also offers practical advice on opening up to the wisdom of the heart, promoting longevity, and living life with greater purpose.
I highly recommend this audiobook, or the printed book it's based on called Human by Design.

Still a fan
I've been a avid consumer of Gregg's work for over a decade now.
Reading the Divine Matrix years ago transformed my life.
I love that I get to hear about, and most importantly comprehend, information that wouldn't normally be on my radar, I love that this book just makes me even more optimistic about the World and my place in it.
I always feel so inspired and power-filled after one of Gregg's books and this one is true to form.
I would have given 5 stars across the board but for one thing.... as much as I love the stories from this masterful storyteller ... even those I've heard many times before, and I could listen to Gregg's voice all day.... actually I did!... I did get to the point where I thought if he says quote/unquote one more time I'll scream.
I totally understand about honouring and crediting other people's work in an audio format... but when you're quoting your Mum and friends.... especially when you begin the sentence with My Mum always said....
I'm afraid to say it got really tedious and interrupted the usual flow of narrative which he does so well.
Having said that, this book is so packed with fabulous, interesting, enlightening and inspiring information that I know it won't be long before I'm listening to it again.

Among the greatest works of Love I have ever read
If this book were required reading in every school, in every church, in every synagogue, mosque, and temple, in every home, in every hand of every new mother giving birth, this world would already be what we have the potential to make it. I love Gregg Braden, for years. This, to me, is his greatest work yet. A masterpiece, not only thoroughly researched, appealing to the logical mind, but this book also touches the Heart, in the deepest and most profound of ways. It's a gentle yet pointed reminder of who we are - the reminder we all need to hear. I was deeply moved and will be listening to this one again and again. Thank you, Gregg Braden.

Transforming everything I ever believed about myself and my world
Do you ever wonder, “Why me? Why this? Why does anything exist at all? What is my purpose? Who am I? Where am I from?” I have struggled with my beliefs my entire life, trying to find purpose in the mundane, allowing the world to crush me under it’s weight... feeling useless... feeling meaningless... feeling powerless... If you have ever grappled with these things, then this and every book ever written by Mr. Braden is for you. This book marries science and spirituality and discusses some of the major scientific discoveries that change everything we ever thought about our origins and our personal power. We were created in God’s image... full of amazing inner-technologies that we have only just begun to discover. Simply put, this book changes everything.

Intelligent Design Apologist
Uses Darwin as the straw man authority on modern evolution. Uses debunked arguements like a tornado building a jumbo jet, or the human eye is too complex to have evolved. Cherry picked scientific topics are twisted to fit an intelligent design narrative. Uses key phrases like mainstream media to attempt to illustrate a global conspiracy to enforce evolutionary teaching. Topics are very muddy. Author never made an effort to understand modern evolutionary theories and had a religious agenda in mind from the beginning. Very disappointed.

Fragmented and unconvincing
Bunch of stories and psuedoscientific arguments carried over 9h to prove that author is right and mainstream science is not.
Still not really sure right about what, I guess in tl;dr he says that human specie appearing on earth must have been an act of miracle >> God or Aliens or the unlimited love of the universe etc.
As much as I am open to spirituality (not really religion), this book is very fragmentd in its arguments, follows absolutely no logic, and does not really explain reasons behind what author regards as 'truth' and 'facts'. Also, it basically shits on the theory of evolution and few prominent scientists, and few other random people as well, who I guess don't hold this author in high regard and vice versa.
There are some interesting stories (from spiritiual point of view) and some intriguing scientific discoveries (not sure to what extend verified and can be trusted judging by the author's strong bias) but overall this book is pretty bad.
Moreover, it is written in a very nonchalant and arrogant style of all-knowing but persecuted 'scietntist' who fights for the ultimate truth to be revealed.
If you are a sane person who looks for facts, logical concepts following one another, and generally trusts scietific method - this book will annoy the shit out of you and the longer you will read the more you will realize that after chapter one you knew deep down there that this is some crazy shit, but decided to go on just to see how it will all fit together. It doesn't, your agony will be slow as you realize that a moment ago you were reading about apes and evolution and next page you are on holocaust and victims of social media bullying, and of course it all connects.
PS. The most misleading book title since Marcus Aurelius Meditations :)
However, if you like conspiracy theories, don't trust your doctor (or more likely therapist) and voted for Trump in last elections, then this book is absolutely for you and you can further entrench yourself in your self-rightousness against anything that does not fit your worldview.

Excellent Book
I absolutely loved this book. I have never considered my self to be a religious person but I always thought that the complexity of the human body and mind couldn't be a simple accident. The author, in my opinion, is making very convincing argument to support the idea that humans are not a simple accidental result of an random evolution but rather an intelligent design.
Although I do not agree with everything in this book, it definitely changed my way of looking at the world.

I loved this book, it resonates 100% and with scientific evidence and research it fills in the blanks for me eloquently, concepts that I felt and intuited to be truth but was unable to express. A great and empowering read, thank you Gregg Braden for your obvious passion to share the truth.

A Powerful Read
Gregg has a wonderful blend of scientific study miixed with humanisism and a deep respect for spiritual tradition. Somehow Gregg manages to consider the areas that cross over and challenge some the most fundamental scientific 'doctrines.' I'm not sure I could call some of the arguments proof but there's enough here to get the reader seriously thinking and that is what I look for in any book. I've seen Gregg present live and his delivery is absolutely second to none. This recording lives up to that standard.
Highly, highly recommended.

Transformative
This is the most life changing teaching I have ever heard. It ties all the other accounts I have heard of a new human story together in a way that is now real for me. I have clarity of purpose. Transformed - yes!

great summary, get his other books
finer details of codes and techniques in other books of his, but this is a great summary of current date while others missed somethings ... both are essential for a full understanding but this is a great place to start and work backwards .enjoy

Good content, interrupted recording
enjoyed the content however throughout the book, sentences would be clipped so that words were lost. it wasn't so consistent as to take away from the overall experience

managed 7 chapters wasted about 3 hours of my life
this is such rubbish. according to the author:
1. there is no proof of a type of human prior to Homo sapiens... ah this must have been the work of a higher power/intelligence
2. fusion of 2 genes in humans ... ah must be a higher power
what a ridiculous conclusion
when he started going on and on and on about how ancient religious texts and how those refer to some higher intelligence must have been involved in creating the modern humans (although there is no proof whatsoever) I gave up.
this book offers nothing and i imagine people of religious beliefs will love this as it fits in nicely with their misguided beliefs of fairy tales
