Story
With the Shaitan War at an end, Lieutenant Commander Shawn "Calvin" Hobbs was able to finally complete the task given him by the long-lost Progenitors. Unfortunately, rather than getting a reward, the Progenitors’ rod was trapped, and it called the Progenitors’ ancient Enemy instead. Calvin and the crew of the Vella Gulf have now been given a choice - prepare the galaxy’s civilizations for the Enemy’s cull or become the first victims of that cull. Calvin has overcome insurmountable odds before, however, and the crew of the Vella Gulf decides to fight.

Drawn from today's headlines, Red Tide: The Chinese Invasion of Seattle, is set in a not-too-distant future where China decides to invade Seattle to use American citizens as high-stakes chips in a game of nuclear blackmail. Will the United States get Seattle back? It will, if a shot down F-18 pilot, a retired Navy SEAL, and a platoon of Army Rangers have anything to say about it.

They’ve fled, leaving Sansar Enkh to go to the Mercenary Guild headquarters on Capital Planet to stand trial for humanity. On the run, Jim Cartwright and Nigel Shirazi have travelled to the Winged Hussars’ secret base of New Warsaw, in an effort to convince Alexis Cromwell to join the fight, while the other mercenaries who escaped the fall of Earth have gone to the perceived safe haven of Karma.

Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened. When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

Story
Earth is no longer the center of the universe. After the invention of the faster-than-light jump drive, humanity is rapidly establishing new colonies. But the vast distances of space mean that the old order of protection and interstellar law offered by Earth has ceased to exist. When a nearby world attacks, the new colony of Glenlyon turns to Robert Geary, a young former junior fleet officer, and Mele Darcy, a onetime enlisted marine.

Publisher's Summary
Lieutenant Commander Shawn "Calvin" Hobbs has saved Seattle, traveled to the stars and forged new alliances with alien races. With the latest war concluded, he turned his attention to deciphering the strange rod an ancient alien civilization gave him as a test. Was a little downtime to work on the project too much to hope for?
Yes.
Something or someone is destroying the starships of the alien Aesir race. The elven Aesir are in need of help, and all of the signs point to Calvin as the hero they need. He has already defeated the merciless Drakuls and saved Earth from alien invasion, but is he prepared to face this unknown challenge?
As the Theogony trilogy comes to a close, a new chapter for Calvin is set to begin. The Search for Gram initiates the Codex Regius, a trilogy that will once again take Lieutenant Commander Hobbs and his Special Forces platoon to the stars. Not even the universe can hold him this time!

Only the second book that I could not finish.
Everyone who rates this book higher than a one star is lying to you!!!!!! I should have listened to the sample before I bought this audio book. I listen to about 3 books a month for the last 3 years. This book is so cliché I could only make it to 53 minutes. To be fair I new within 5 this was a bad book. I'm going to ask for a refund ASAP.

A good start to a new series
Kennedy continues his story of Calvin and the human’s fight against hostile aliens looking to turn humanity into food or wipe them out. I enjoy how he ties a new mythology into the story and ties it to alien influence.
This series focuses on action in our universe and a parallel universe, the Djinn Universe. In the book When the Gods Aren’t Gods, Kennedy introduces Djinn, Efreet, and Shaitan. I feel like this series contradicts his original descriptions of these beings in his earlier books, but that doesn’t really get in the way of the story.
What I don’t like: The narrator, his diction is strange and distracting. I made this comment on the first series. However, it is just worse in this series. He did not know how to pronounce “forte’” and it crushes my soul every time he says the word Jotun because he says it like “Joe-toon”. I die inside a little every single time. He doesn’t even accidentally pronounce it right once.

Lacking.
Despite a seemingly good premise, the writing falls apart in terms of cliches, simplistic characters, boring dialogue and jerky pacing.
The narration is understandable, though as others have noted, it doesn't sound as human as I would expect.

Sorry, But worst narrator ever
I tried so hard to listen to the end but for some reason, the narrator moved from being a not so good narrator, to a top level condesending one.
Whilst the author made the characters somewhat stupid at times. An example would be how the MC virtually threw his mens lives away at one point because of an idiotic plan, something like WW1 British Army generals did, and with no comeback at all.
I think the books would be more suited to junior teens rather than adults. Clearly aimed at adults with the complex story arc but does not fit for adult reading.
Will not read 2 and 3 or any more by this author.
