Publisher's Summary

The Seven Sisters is a sweeping epic tale of love and loss, written by the international number one bestseller Lucinda Riley and read by Tuppence Middleton.

Maia D’Aplièse and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home–a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva–having been told that their beloved adoptive father, the elusive billionaire they call Pa Salt, has died.

Each of them is handed a tantalising clue to their true heritage–a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil . . .

Eighty years earlier, in the Belle Époque of Rio, 1927, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into aristocracy. But Izabela longs for adventure, and convinces him to allow her to accompany the family of a renowned architect on a trip to Paris. In the heady, vibrant streets of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.

The Seven Sisters is the first audiobook in the spellbinding Seven Sisters series, inspired by the mythology of the famous star constellation. It is followed by The Storm Sister.

Narration spoil great story

I loved the book but did not like the narration. Character voices and accents not up to standard.

Too Snooty

I consider my fairly well traveled, with a French mother and English father and now living in San Francisco. I found the narrator and the story too upper class and snooty for me

Maybe my expectations were too high.

This book was "ok" but, for me, not worth my credit. The author drags the story out beyond what is necessary. For example, she goes into great detail about what clothes and accessories the little girl packs in her suitcase. There was no further reference to the little girl's luggage - just a time waster. Most of the characters are two dimensional. All I know about Isabella is that she was beautiful. The author never gives the reader more than a superficial view of the characters. I want to connect to the characters, even if it is negative. This was just "blah" - I was hoping to find a good series to start and this wasn't it for me.

I am so happy I decided to purchase this book. Not sure what to expect I was so pleasantly surprised and found it difficult to stop. I have already purchased the next book. Hope it’s as good!

narration ruined it

unfortunately I didn't finish this book. the narration ruined it for me - it was so dull and slow I found myself tuning it out and missing while paragraphs. I hate not finishing books but there was no point in continuing if I was going to miss half if it anyway.

make this your next book!

LOVED everything about this book. The story is captivating and the narration brought the characters to life. I've never had 17 hours go by so quickly! I cannot wait to get to the next in the series, and so thankful there are more books to look forward to!

Turgid and interminable

I cannot believe I got as far with this as I did before giving up nearly half way through. I thought it would make a change as something light and escapist but it was really tedious. The narrator iis irritating and loses the sense of some sentences and mispronounces some words.

bad

On the surface it's an easy going airport read. However underneath, there's wierd and problematic Christian moralising and a lack of empathy. The author seems to think a woman should be defined by the man in her life and should be submissive towards him, and that a husband who rapes his wife is 'not a bad man'. The way an autistic teenager (who is failed by her parents and school and becomes addicted to drugs) is described and condemned is just plain offensive.

An easy, interesting listen

Beautifully narrated, this is an easy listen of 2 fascinating lives. However, it's a little difficult to really get into when the characters are sooooo 'ideal'. Everyone is beautiful, everyone is wealthy... but still a good story!

The Seven Sisters

I was recommended that this series of books were a great read and I was not disappointed. it's not my usual choice, I like murder mysteries, but this book held my attention and I look forward to the next book. Tuppence Middleton is a great reader and captured the voices and accents brilliantly- no mean feat!

first book of the seven I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book with the various characters in it, going back into the past and then the present. The narrator was very good using different voices for the characters.

Surprise!

I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t know what to expect. At first I was a little confused with the name and the fact there were only 6 sisters but that was explained early on. I was also expecting rather different responses to their father’s death given Mia was apprehensive about telling them all, but their reactions were similar, only their lives different.

I thought Mia’s discovery of her great grandmother and her life was excellent, in depth and intriguing. I enjoyed both Isabella and Mia’s stories very much.

I am looking forward to the subsequent books in the series.

Great story!

A slow start, but a great story that kept me interested, and well narrated. I enjoyed the duality of the stories of Maia and Izabela. While there were parts that were predictable, there were enough twists to keep me engaged and wondering what would happen next. I'm thinking the rest of the series will take me to different countries at other important historical points in time, which will be interesting too.

Thoroughly enjoyable overall

I very much enjoyed this story and audio narration. My only reason for dropping a star was due to the disappointing use of the ‘people with “Asperger’s” (now autism) lack empathy and are bad people’ trope. Poor form. It is only a small part of the story however, so I won’t let it ruin my enjoyment of the book as a whole. I’m looking forward to reading the next one.
