Publisher's Summary

The Seven Sisters is a sweeping epic tale of love and loss by the international number one best-selling author Lucinda Riley.

Maia D’Aplièse and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home - a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva - having been told that their beloved adoptive father, the elusive billionaire they call Pa Salt, has died.

Each of them is handed a tantalising clue to their true heritage - a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil....

Eighty years earlier, in the Belle Époque of Rio, 1927, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into aristocracy. But Izabela longs for adventure, and convinces him to allow her to accompany the family of a renowned architect on a trip to Paris. In the heady, vibrant streets of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.

The Seven Sisters is the first book in the spellbinding Seven Sisters series, inspired by the mythology of the famous star constellation. It is followed by The Storm Sister.

Narration spoil great story

I loved the book but did not like the narration. Character voices and accents not up to standard.

One half very well written, the other half not.

This story goes back and forth between past and present. Nothing is wrong with that---but---the "present" was extremely dragged out in many parts, with endless empty chatter and over-descriptions of unimportant things. I was thinking of speeding by it but didn't--just said to myself: okay, okay, I get it it, please go on. It's like having to listen to someone talk on and on and you zone out because they are talking too much about boring things. Character development in the "present" was not good until towards the end of the "present".

However, the "past" was beautifully written, each word meaning something, and it was heartfelt. The characters were developed vividly. It's almost as if another author wrote the "past", or it was rewritten in a much better way.

Also, so many authors finish off their characters by making them die off. I wish less effort was spent on idle descriptions and endless chatter, and more put into satisfying resolutions. A lot of effort was misplaced in this book, but, I will read Book 2. I hope it is better throughout.

The narrator was great, except the male voices sounded a bit cartoonish. Her French accent was very pretty.

Captivating.

A little disjointed, but my questions will be answered in the next few books......
who was PA Salt? is he 'really' dead?

Turgid and interminable

I cannot believe I got as far with this as I did before giving up nearly half way through. I thought it would make a change as something light and escapist but it was really tedious. The narrator iis irritating and loses the sense of some sentences and mispronounces some words.

Good Company

I really enjoyed the book and it has been great company in the car and on walks. I especially liked the performance and in particular the creepy voice given to Gustavo who make my skin crawl !

bad

On the surface it's an easy going airport read. However underneath, there's wierd and problematic Christian moralising and a lack of empathy. The author seems to think a woman should be defined by the man in her life and should be submissive towards him, and that a husband who rapes his wife is 'not a bad man'. The way an autistic teenager (who is failed by her parents and school and becomes addicted to drugs) is described and condemned is just plain offensive.

An easy, interesting listen

Beautifully narrated, this is an easy listen of 2 fascinating lives. However, it's a little difficult to really get into when the characters are sooooo 'ideal'. Everyone is beautiful, everyone is wealthy... but still a good story!

The Seven Sisters

I was recommended that this series of books were a great read and I was not disappointed. it's not my usual choice, I like murder mysteries, but this book held my attention and I look forward to the next book. Tuppence Middleton is a great reader and captured the voices and accents brilliantly- no mean feat!

first book of the seven I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book with the various characters in it, going back into the past and then the present. The narrator was very good using different voices for the characters.

Surprise!

I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t know what to expect. At first I was a little confused with the name and the fact there were only 6 sisters but that was explained early on. I was also expecting rather different responses to their father’s death given Mia was apprehensive about telling them all, but their reactions were similar, only their lives different.

I thought Mia’s discovery of her great grandmother and her life was excellent, in depth and intriguing. I enjoyed both Isabella and Mia’s stories very much.

I am looking forward to the subsequent books in the series.

Great story!

A slow start, but a great story that kept me interested, and well narrated. I enjoyed the duality of the stories of Maia and Izabela. While there were parts that were predictable, there were enough twists to keep me engaged and wondering what would happen next. I'm thinking the rest of the series will take me to different countries at other important historical points in time, which will be interesting too.

Slow starting but then was an amazing read

I found it a little hard to get into this book, but then it suddenly drew me in. Loved the different locations and storyline’s that were all interwoven. It was a mixture of love, fantasy and mystery. Great book.
