Publisher's Summary

The Shadow Sister Ryana, the very Shadow of Death, is marrying her beloved and joining his gypsy clan. War took her innocence, and now she's determined to rebuild her life. But religious cults are springing up, and the gypsies come under attack.

Ryana's best friend in the Sisters, Jelena, has fled to join one of the cults, and the senior Sister asks Ryana to find out why. Too late, Ryana discovers their enemies have a sweet and seductive weapon, one that has turned Jelena into her enemy.

Ryana is betrayed, kidnapped, and her will stolen. She must regain it if she is to defend her clan and the Shadow Sisters. If she fails, it means the end of both her families - her new gypsy clan and the Sisters she swore to defend.

Needs a third book

This book was amazing but so far there are only two books and I finished the second. I hope there’s a third book because I really connected with the characters and felt like I knew them in person.

Not a bad sequel

Okay sometimes the sequel disappoints when the first book was so good, but this one did not. The Shadow Gypsy introduced a whole new storyline while carrying the important parts over to this book. I loved it. It is a really fun listen.

A fun bit of diversion from my usual reading

I almost stopped listening twice as it was a bit pedantic & wasn't keeping my interest at first. But, I came back kept going, as the story improved. Turns out it was worth finishing. The writing is pretty simple & shallow, but fun. The same or similar lines are used repeatedly when a bit of simple word-smithing could have communicated the same idea & kept it engaging. The reader was quite good, though & her many voices are very well done. Don't think I'll be spending money or credits on other words by this author, tho. This was a freebie

Sequel not as good

After finishing the first book, I was super excited to see a sequel although the first book definitely wrapped everything up quite nicely. The second book did not deliver. At all. To be honest the actual plot doesn’t even start until after chapter 12! Everything before is literally a rehash of book 1. Honestly, book 2 can be a stand alone with how much repetition VERBATIM of book 1 goes on in it.

In book 1, we’re introduced to a bad a** girl power, I don’t need anyone, kinda girl. Here, she’s just depressing and kinda annoying with her maudlin inner-monologuing—like Bella Swan from Twilight annoying. And the romance! It’s so stilted and repetitive and forced in its delivery! How many times are you going to kiss your husband “long and tender?” It’s kind of cringe tbh.

While I quite literally finished book 1 in a matter of days, I’m most likely not going to continue this.

Not as good as the 1st book

The 1st installment was a well balanced, well thought out story. This book focused too heavily on relationships and did not have a well thought out story. the story that was there had a good beginning but was too rushed in writing.

Good story but redundant phrases annoying

The storyline was intriguing as it was in the first book. However, it’s a bit annoying to have the same phrases repeated multiple times throughout the book. It was like the author ‘cut and pasted’ them each time. How many times does ‘the moment’ have to be explained? The author’s use of repetitive phrases and similar incidents caused the story to loose its momentum for me in its redundancy. Overall I enjoy this author and the Shadow books. She creates inventive stories and memorable characters.

First one was better

This second book was very lacking. Don’t regret listening but wasn’t nearly as good as first

Good Follow-On From Book 1

Shadow Sister Ryana, now married and part of the gypsy circus clan does not have much of a respite from the sisterhood. Cults soon emerge from the towns they visit with a sinister purpose.

As I remarked in Book 1, this is light fantasy which does not take too much concentration and is a pleasant listen.

Needs a trigger warning

It reads a bit like it is written by a misogynist. There is barely any disgust written in about the widespread rape and sex slaves in the storyline, and too much about how her work is a burden and she just wants to be a wife. Bit if a shame, because book 1 read like the first of an exciting series. Performances were excellent though.

Enjoyed another great book

A good mix of cunning, humor, love and laughter surrounding war, revenge and hiding in plain sight to protect family and sisterhood. I listen while laying down imagining to get to the next step in the writing, loved it. Alongside Gabrielle voices her role playing narrative love the wealth of voices. Bring on book 3 please..

getting repetitive

Whilst the story is good, the repetition of character flaws and underlying reasoning explained has become tedious. For someone raised and trained as as the best spy assassin in the world, Ryan's is just a bundle of immaturity and uncertainties.

Have enjoyed the 2nd book in the series very much. Great to listen to while engaged in mundane tasks, completely forget about them while living in the shadow world.
