Things crawlin' an' bleatin' an' barkin' an' hoppin' around black cellars an' high attics every way ye turn? Hey? Well, sir, let me tell yew that ain't the worst! That ain't the worst! That ain't the worst!"

There is something wrong in the decayed seacoast town of Innsmouth. Something wrong in the crumbling buildings. Something wrong in the cold deep waters.

Something wrong in the blood.

All time favorite

I discovered this gem of a performance on cassette over a decade ago .Im so happy to be able to hear it on Audable once again. The assemble cast have made a timeless masterpiece. Full of great old timey radio sound effects: foot steps, tearing paper bags....

Don't listen to this version first!

What made the experience of listening to The Shadow over Innsmouth (Dramatized) the most enjoyable?

The acting is fantastic

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Shadow over Innsmouth (Dramatized)?

Without delving into spoilers, there is a chase sequence which in the original is very tense and keeps you anxious and on the edge of your seat. I am very pleased that this production came the closest to recreating that sensation with the scene.

Any additional comments?

With the exception of the character names used this is a very faithful retelling of the short story, however I feel it works better as a companion piece to the original story as opposed to a replacement of. If you can only get one then get the original, but if you can afford both then this performance is a wonderful accent to the original.

where real horror began...

timeless horror classic. a horror story for every generation. loved it as a youth, love it more as an adult. To turn it into a motion picture would ruin it like the tragedy of " Call of Chuthulu ".

Eerie Genealogy

I've finally gotten to experience the story of one of Lovecraft's most famous towns. I think the persons of the story were well performed by the cast and I enjoyed the sound effects. The story had this creeping dread as the mystery built upon itself and led to the exciting climax, and the ultimate conclusion. However, I had been annoyed and borderline irritated by the several, unnecessary chanting of "there is a shadow over Innsmouth ". This chanting came not from the speaking characters, nor as a chanting from crowds, but as a sound effect in itself, and I believe it was overdone.

Chopped up and rushed

I was rather disappointed by this adaptation of one of HP Lovecraft's most popular stories. The different voices are quite jarring and they don't match the characters well at all. The boy in the grocery store sounds more like a man in his 40s. There is an escape sequence in the last third of the original story but this adaptation chopped out most of it and ignored the creeping suspense of the original. It is the escape that makes the original so scary as that was when the protagonist was in greatest danger but could not sneak out. I wouldn't recommend this version to anyone as an introduction to Lovecraft in audio form.
