Publisher's Summary

Nola Trenholm is hopeful for a fresh start in the Big Easy but must deal with ghosts from her past—as well as new ones—in this first book in a spin-off series of Karen White's New York Times best-selling Tradd Street novels.

After a difficult detour on her road to adulthood, Nola Trenholm is looking to begin anew in New Orleans, and what better way to start her future than with her first house? But the historic fixer-upper she buys comes with even more work than she anticipated when the house’s previous occupants don’t seem to be ready to depart.

Although she can’t communicate with ghosts like her stepmother can, luckily Nola knows someone in New Orleans who is able to—even if he’s the last person on earth she wants anything to do with ever again. Beau Ryan comes with his own dark past—a past that involves the disappearance of his sister and parents during Hurricane Katrina—and he’s connected to the unsolved murder of a woman who once lived in the old Creole cottage Nola is determined to make her own...whether the resident restless spirits agree or not.

Solid Mystery

Great mystery and start to a new series. That was fun.

“Life wasn’t supposed to be easy; challenges just made it more interesting, most of the time, mostly.”

“It’s what my Grandmama calls a “life skill” something you will always use and appreciate, like potty-training and playing tennis.” Haha

And so it continues...

Karen White did a wonderful job continuing the Trenholm family saga. I hope that it will not be a repeat of the love triangle with her parents and Mark though. I'm very much looking forward to the next ghost fighting adventure.
I am a New Orleans native, the narration was just ok, she did give a good voice to NOLA but completely missed the elegance of Melanie and the pronunciation of their last name. I was glad that she managed to do a good job with the local characters dialect and properly pronounced the names of restaurants, stores, cities and streets.

Made me wanna scream!

The story was great, with the right amount of suspense. But for the love of God, Can Nola and Beau get I together. Their relationship frustrated me to no end only to be left high and dry. Also another pet peeve of mine is a time line that doesn't add up. Beau has a Harley the same year as his mom's birth 1977, yet his sister was taken around 1985. That math doesn't jive.

Can’t wait till the sequel!

I miss Jack & Melanie, & all the other “friends”, but as always, I love all your books! Just keep writing!😊💜

Big pronunciation problems.

I have listened to the entire Tradd Street series. The last name of the main character is mispronounced by this narrator, as are many of the New Orleans names in this story. I am from the Crescent City so I am familiar with the correct syllable to receive the accent. This narrator has the syllables reversed. I am very disappointed. I expected much more attention to detail. The story, however, is very entertaining.

I’m looking forward to this series!

A great read! I hope this becomes a series like the author’s Tradd Street books.

Great continuation of the Tradd Street Series

This is a great spin-off from the Tradd Street series and it is good to know we will not completely lose Melanie and Jack and the rest. The character development is great - but Nola’s stubbornness and immaturity is a little overdone. Hopefully we will see her overcome some of these traits in the continuing story. Loved Beau, Jackson, and all the others - but especially Jolene!
Can’t wait for the next book to come out!

Best one yet!

I’ve listened to all the Tradd Street novels and this is my favorite. It’s full of twists and turns and lots of “New Orleans”.

vaguely familiar

When we first started listening to this book, we found it intriguing. Then the similarities started cropping up. This book was a repeat of Karen Whites first Tradd St. book. This story should've been into it's own as Nola was on her own. We were a little disappointed. The performance could've been better by giving each character his or her own voice. Too many characters sounded the same. We did like the humor interspersed throughout the book. This book needed to be an original and it wasn't.

Love it!

i really enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next. I loved all of the Tradd Street books and this was like visiting with old friends. I just wish NOLA wasn't so slow but I guess when they are the main character it wouldn't be much of a story if they caught the clues right away.
