North of Great and South of Fantastic

There isn’t much I would like to say beyond the Publisher’s Summary. In my opinion, it would give away too much of the story. Therefore I have confined myself to four things. First, the story was easy to follow and not once did my imagination say, "Well, that’s insane or completely impossible." Secondly, this is not an angst driven love story, Thank Goodness, because it easily could have been. Thirdly, if there is a question left unanswered, it wasn’t important enough for me to remember. And lastly, I am glad the author didn’t fall into the “black hole of trilogies” even though this story could have been stretched out with pointless facts into one. And as far as the narration goes, it wasn’t the best in the world. But I gave it five stars instead of three because I admire someone for stepping out of their comfort zone to achieve a goal, as I believe this author did. I sincerely hope there are more audiobooks from her to follow.

Fantastic

Loved the story line and love the narrator. Enough said!! Hope this writer comes out with a even better one, although it’s probably hard but I will be watching.

I loved this story so much.

One of the things that I absolutely adored about the story is that the romance was a primary part of the plot, but there was so much story aside from that! The romance remained an integral part of the story, so my lesbian heart was quite happy with it, but then my writers heart was also overjoyed at reading so much in-depth plot and development.

I only have two complaints, and they are relatively small. The first would be that the narrator, while clear and precise the entirety of the story, had little variance in her cadence and her voices for each character were the same. The second complaint just comes from being a writer and being somewhat irritated with the overabundance of direction - "She stopped, turned to look this way, then turned, looking another way, her eyes gleaming. She moved her hand, then another hand." That sort of thing.

However, I was obsessed enough with the story that it didn't bother me too terribly much, and might not even be noticed by someone who isn't also a writer.

If you enjoy science fiction, WLW romance plots, and class struggle, this is the book for you! I haven't yet checked to see if this author has more, but I will certainly be looking into it.

Why hadn't I heard about this book?

This was an entirely enjoyable book. I think many authors would have broken it into the separate books and charged more, I would have. It is 22 hours long. I enjoyed the narration, which was done by the author, the only improvement I would make would be to have more varied voices, although it was always clear who was speaking. As a lesbian, I felt the sex scenes were well done and not overdone, and not what the book was all about. Great scifi plot and world building. I'll be finding Kyra Anderson's other books.

"however"

The amount of times the word "however" is used in this book has been driving me nuts. It's used unnecessarily most of the time. I'm barely 3 hours in and I'm almost yelling at the author like she's next to me during the read. The storyline has me interested. The missing detail of scenes has me disappointed.

Great Read

I absolutely loved this book. I believe the characters as well as their world was well developed and I felt as though I could picture everything perfectly in my mind. Kyra Anderson did a fantastic job with this story and I can’t wait to discover more books by this author.

A great story with crippling problems.

Everything about this work is amateurish. The plot is meandering and lacks any semblance of pacing. It presents as though the author was profoundly inexperienced, clumsily trying to make the prose sound more adult. I wish I'd kept a count of "However" uses, as the word is distractingly frequent. Moreover, the narration is simply awful, with the author mostly reading in a monotone. Finally, the editing is rife with problems; many bad takes are included so you hear the same sentence twice.

--

All that being said, the story is unquestionably creative and the world is interesting. This genre is clogged with trite romance so it's refreshing to hear a decent story. I just wish the author had found a good editor and voice actor. Please only start this book if you're a very forgiving listener. It IS good, but also frustrating.

invest in a thesaurus!!

This book has potential, unfortunately the writer could not see.

I loved the class storyline in a syfy setting, through in some lesbian love story and it could be entertaining. however the author/narrator has 0 voice inflection and way too monotone. the only time she breathes life into a character is when they are cursing...

It is also hard to past all the "so and so chuckled and so and so murmured " she uses it WAYYYYY to often. almost every time someone expresses sarcasm they chuckled. Whenever they they are melancholy or talking under their breath, she has them murmer..it's distracting and annoying.

I'm still suffering through this story because I really want to like it. but I had to get this off my chest

I absolutely loved this, do recommend it!

loved the characters and the story. a thriller with politics/sci-fi/romance combined and more I'd say. it's as much of each, so it would be hard to categorise it as only one of em . perfect for me atleast. would recommend!
