Publisher's Summary

Ben's double life continues at the Royal Institute of Magic. To most, he's a talented apprentice and an exceptional spellshooter, but Ben is also a Guardian, responsible for uniting Elizabeth's Armour, the only artifact powerful enough to overthrow the evil dark elves.

With two pieces of the armour secure, finding the third may be Ben's toughest challenge yet. His only clue is a magical key, a tenuous link to a legend called the Silver Dwarf.

With the dark elves slowly conquering the Unseen Kingdoms, Ben races against time to gather the pieces of armour and unite the Guardians entrusted with them. If that wasn't hard enough, new challenges and old enemies await him at the Institute, and his friendship will be tested like never before.

I've been binge listening to this series!

It was effective to have the first couple books included in my membership.by the time I got to the paid books I happily bought extra credits to get the rest & it has been worth it.

The books would be a very good road trip listen for a family with younger kids (say 8 years old+) but as an adult I've enjoyed it as an engaging listen and escape from all the bad news amid current events.

Bad Characters

Charlie and Natalie are so wimpy. Very sad. It is hard to enjoy the book when 2 of the main character cry and complain every chance they get. Realy sad. Hard to listen. Not going to get the rest of the series. I got the first 3 book for free but after I bought this book I regretted it immediately.

Fun fantasy for YA readers

As the 4th book, I want to journey to the end. As a YA book, predictable elements meld with creative takes on magical spells, lands and creatures. The leads show strength, courage and fortitude individually and as a team. A coming of age story in a fantastical setting.

The Plot Thickens

The tale becomes more involved with the Silver Dwarf and we learn that some are not as they first appear. There are plenty of surprises, lots of excitement, adventure and intrigue. I devoured this book and couldn't wait to continue to the next in the series. Rousing fun!

Great Series

I have truly enjoyed this series this far. I continue to look forward to the next book. I especially loved the ending. (Spoiler Alert) I've been waiting for Aaron to be put in his place.

Wonderful Series

I’m in love with this story and all of the amazing creatures and the back plot of the king…each book gets better and better! I’ve got to give a huge praise to Peter Kenny for his narration!! I love books and stories; how they can take you to another world, another time! This book does that…But Peter Kenny that breathes life into these characters. I just love him!!

Loved it

I am so into this series I listened to this book in one sitting. Not just for kids but for adults as well. I loved Harry Potter and the Charlie Bone series and think this one is just as good as those. I will be sorry when the series comes to an end.

I like it

The book is a little cheesey at times but I still enjoy it. If you're over serious about plot it may not be for you. It's often obvious what will happen next and problems are sometimes solved too easily. Still if you're in it for the good time you'll have, then I definitely recommend this series.

They just get better and better

I think I'm finally getting used to this ".....said" quotes. the books just get better and better as the books in the series go on. I loved every hi it of this book and completed it quicker than the previous ones. there was much more action and detail in this on than the previous and Kenny just keeps showing how many different voice types he can produce in impeccable fashion.
Lastly I must say that the way the book ended couldn't have been any better way to end and leave for the next book to start. I mean it was absolutely perfect. unfortunately for those reading I'm not skiing it so you'll need to listen to the whole book yourself to enjoy it. you also can't just skip to the end to fully experience the greatness either as the end is linked to previous chapters which have important info for you to digest first. there's nothing else I can say about this book that those who have gotten to book 3 don't already know. as far as I'm concerned of you're about to listen to book 3 then you already deeply enjoy this book. A couple spoilers I could say are that they find the breastplate and they also enter the void. Let's just say the void was interesting and the obtaining the breastplate was life threatening.

Narrator sounds permanently surprised

I was horrified to discover there were so many of these, as my wife is enjoying them. I can’t stand the narrator, and I cannot fathom why other people think he’s marvellous. It’s the intonation: the man reads every single sentence like it’s something surprising.

I am doing my best to avoid listening, so I don’t know the answer to my not-quite-rhetorical question: What on earth does he do when something surprising happens? I suppose he could try sounding surprised, but how would anyone notice the difference?

It doesn’t help that the content is so clearly based on Harry Potter, but I can hardly blame Mr Kenny for that.
