As a college student, I spend my days in class and my evenings selling sage to PTA moms who do moon rituals to manifest better parking spaces. My best friend is a cat who likes pizza, and a “night out” includes hand delivering mysterious packages to the local “coven” of small business owners who repeatedly invite me to their meetings - clothing optional. My life is weird. But it’s not magic. Magic isn’t real. At least, that’s what I believed - right up until the moment he walks into my store.

A school-girl fantasy severely lacking depth
Premise to books 1 & 2: young girls who have issues with neglectful mothers and desire passionate romances.
First book: magic system was severely underperforming and lacking description (which magic system is what defines fantasy), the setting was established but not used (1/3- Poland port city, 2/3 -mansion, 3/3 siren kingdom), and character development didn’t happen (‘I have to take care of my mom,’ -> ‘more chaotic feelings over having my mom leave,’ -> ‘more mom issues [so as not to spoil anything]’). Feelings, feelings, feelings, but no substance. It read more like an allegory of a months worth of therapy sessions.
Book 2: Now it’s the mom’s turn to express the same neglectful parenting of her mom. I couldn’t continue after the 8th(?) chapter. It was too much emotion and a severe lacking of plot. Which looked like the same issue of the first book.
Would not recommend for any girl above the age of 18, and especially not for any man as there was no universal connectedness one might find for men and women in a good story with relatable characters.

Marni Penning does an immaculate job at bringing AL Knorr's stories to life. all go the different accents, tone changes, sound effects, etc are just wonderful.
to not give away any spoilers, this trilogy wrapped up the Mer version of the elementals brilliantly. I exclaimed 'what the!' to many parts during the last book. All of the information was artfully revealed throughout the series. Bravo to both the author and narrator.

Mermaids, mythology and a breathtaking story
I have initially read this as it came out in three different books. I was super-excited to find it in one big edition, because it's the perfect gift for the fantasy-loving bookworm. And I have a couple of those in my family, so this will be their next birthday or Christmas gift.
I love many things about the author, A.L. Knorr, but what comes to mind immediately is her creativity and wonderful writing. She is one of the few readers which made me appreciate a well-written sentence and STILL has amazing plots in her books.
This particular collection is one of my favorite segments in her Elemental universe. It's about a mermaid, Targa, who figures out why mermaids are "cursed" to alternate between land and water. This story takes her back hundreds of year in mermaid history and it's wonderful to see the blend between then and now. I absolutely loved her adventures and I'm trying my best to express that without giving away spoilers.
The narrator, Marni Penning is also amazing. I love how she manages to adapt the character's voices and to different accents. The story takes place in a handful of different countries and while everyone speaks English, it is impressive to see all the different accents she can do. But don't worry, everything is understandable, even for a non-native speaker!
Overall, I really really REALLY recommend this book (and this writer and her Elemental series).

Mermaids and Atlantis! What’s not to love
A.L. Knorr leads us through the magical world under the ocean. A amazing Mermaid story that takes us to the mythical land of Atlantis. Great as a stand-alone trilogy even better if you read after the Elemental series. Marni Penning uses her amazing voice to bring the characters to life as only she can.

leave the real word for a while
Wow just Wow. Isn't it amazing when you can escape to a world inside your head? To listen to this book made my week go a lot quicker. It’s hard to write without spoilers but if you enjoy real fantasy and escaping to new worlds (under the sea) Then this is your book. Three Great books each with its own adventure yet all part of a bigger storey. Really well written and read beautifully by Marni.
I am really enjoying AL Knorr and so glad a friend recommended them to me.
This group of books and author has a place up there with JK Rowling and JRR Tolkien.
Definitely a must read.............
