A very good first book

A very good read. I trully enjoyed it.
An interesting plot with mostly loveable characters (I didn't like Merrick in the beginning but once he stopped being a dick, I liked him) and great/very hot sex scenes. It was dragging a bit towards the end though.
The narrator also did a great job.
I'll gladly read the next book!

Intriguing

Really enjoyed the premise of this book, the main characters were wonderful together. New to me Narrator who I believe did a good job.

Great story but didn't like the narrator

Wasn't a fan of the narrator. They sounded so old like listening to my grandpa reading a book rather than the mc that was in college. It worked for the elders but the majority of the book was supposed to be a young person speaking. He also didn't really express much emotion.

Fabulous story but if the next one is the same narrator I'll likely just read the book.

In the end I enjoyed the listen

I've not read the book so this story was all new to me and I had no preconceptions of how a character should sound. First of all I liked this story, it flowed nicely and was different then the norm. The characters and plot held my attention and it had great chemistry. An entertaining story that I will follow up with the 2nd book when released.
The narrator was new to me, he was clear and I could follow him well with him reading the story. The only gripe and which made me take a little bit longer with getting into the story was, im not sure how to describe it but the way he said things and the delivery of them. It's like I concentrated on the lilting pattern on how he sounded words out. This was my pet peeve, but once I got over that I could enjoy the story and characters voices.

A new and different take on shifters.

Bl Maxwell and Nic Starr have created a shifter universe which has a new perspective and quite a few differences from what we are used to red.
First of all the age of the first shift (or diverging, as it’s called): I have mostly read of shifter worlds where the first change happens during puberty, or there about. Here diverging is a sign of maturity. And the first shift happens around the 25-years-mark, this is when a man is expected to take on his adult-life-responsibilities.
Another big different from the usual is the disease, which is the main focus of this first book: we are used to reading about shifters who don’t and can’t get sick with anything. Here we have a disease that not only affects, but threaten the lives of wolves.
And it’s also the thing that brings Zander and Marrok together. Both fighting to save the life of a young shifter in Zander’s pack, they have to overcome obstacles, fight narrow-minded Alphas and try to change the allegiances between the packs. While doing this, they also have to navigate their relationship, as they soon realize they are fated mates!
A well-written, interesting, refreshing story, which I am sure sets the base for the next ones to come, which are sure to explore inter-pack relationships even more.
Guy Veryzer did a great job with the narration, very well done!

I enjoyed listening to this.

This is the first book I’ve read by BL Maxwell but I’ve listened to others by Guy Veryzer. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this audiobook too much because I’ve listened to a couple of other short books by this narrator and I didn’t like them all that much. I was very pleasantly surprised to enjoy his narration of this one.

The story is also really good but there is an over-arcing storyline that won’t be concluded until the final book. I think the concept of “the slow death” affliction for certain shifters and the cure for it was pretty original.

The world building was really good and Zander and Marrock have a few things to overcome in order to help preserve the pack. I’m now anxious to read the next two books in this series (not yet published as of this writing) and hope they come to audio.

Dangerous Times

Two fated mates from different packs have to fight pack prejudice, the conflict between the way things have always been done and the dawning of new ideas and try to save all the packs from a deadly disease. This has a bit of a Romeo and Juliet like feel in the resistance of the packs to mingle in any meaningful sense mixed with a wonderfully realized dystopian world where everyone is trying to understand and fight a disease before it claims even more victims. I love both of these author's separate works and they have made a wonderful start with this new series. Guy Veryzer gives a great performance here. All the characters are distinct and well delineated and the moments of tension, heat and romance are nicely balanced.

Brilliant

This was just one of those books that captures you and doesn’t let you go until the last second and then lingers in the back of your mind. I loved the main characters, their chemistry together and the way they built up their relationship. I loved the communication that they used and I found that the heat between them was very believable.

This book has convinced me that I need the next book in the series as well. Fantastic work

Stronger through working together

When I read this book I was intrigued by the unusual way of presenting shifters. This is a different take on shifters in the sense that they do get ill and that illness is directly linked to their shifting abilities.
Zander (a.k.a. Alexander) and Marrok are from two different packs and have to work together to get help from one of the other packs to get the help needed to save their friend. While doing this they find they are mates.
Part of the storyline finishes up in this volume but others we can presumably follow in the following books in the series.
This writing combination is off to a good start and I already ordered the second book in the series to find out what will happen next.

Narrator Guy Veryzer is a new to me. His voice is overall easy to listen to but for me when he voices the main characters it felt for me that the voice was made to old by the way he used it to have 'a tremble' in there for one of them. 4*

Wow, great start to a new series

First, you would not believe that two authors wrote this book. Not once did I think there wasn't a seamless transition of each part.

Second, great world, character and story building. It is a unique storyline, and it kept me gripped all the way through. Again, not going to give anything away, but trust me, it's well worth a read, ohh did I miss the bit about telling you that there's a lot of hot s*x and two majorly hot main characters.

I loved the characters and the story, just in case I didn't quite relay that. So now I'm on my knees and hands together, asking that this turns into audio. I can imagine that would be incredible.

Seriously good narration but as usual I had to speed up the narration to 1.50 on audible.
