Publisher's Summary

The Goodreads Choice Awards Debut of the Year.

A wedding in Spain. The most infuriating man. Three days to convince your family you're actually in love....

Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister's wedding. Especially when her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control. Now everyone she knows - including her ex-boyfriend and his fiancée - will be there.

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic for her and aid in her deception. NYC to Spain is no short flight, and her family won't be easy to fool.... But even then, when Aaron Blackford - the six-foot-four-inch blue-eyed pain in the arse - offers to step in, she's not tempted even for a second. Never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling and insufferable man.

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding gets closer the more desirable an option Aaron Blackford becomes....

The Spanish Love Deception is an enemies-to-lovers fake-dating romance. Perfect for those looking for a steamy slow-burn with the promise of a sweet happy-ever-after.

Get someone who actually speaks Spanish

I hated the narration. It’s nothing on the voice actor, but if you are performing as someone who comes from Spain, at least make sure you got all the words right!
It totally ruined the book for me.

As for the story: I had read that this book was good but way too long for it’s own good and I have to say I wholeheartedly agree. It’s your typical enemies-to-lovers, with the perfect male love interest who acts like a jerk but it actually the sweets and hottest guy on earth.
Some descriptions felt a little weird, though. Like, for someone who needs over a hundred pages to realize she likes the guy, she sure finds many ways of describing his ocean blue eyes and Superman-like jaw.
But, all in all, it’s all it’s set out to be and pretty good at that

Fun listen - listened to in one day!

This was nice light listen, though the story is a little predictable I love all the characters, I really enjoyed it and was eager to get to the end. The narration is good and made the story more enjoyable. Highly recommend I’m already looking forward to the follow up.

Only a few small points there’s a couple of points in the book where the audio repeats, and needs to be reviewed and honestly I think it’s super lazy to not match the chapter title in the book with the what it actually is eg. chapter 3 in this version is actually chapter 1 of the book and so forth.

Great story - shame about the blasphemy

I loved this story. The narrator read beautifully. I was disappointed by the jarring blasphemy which occasionally scattered the story. I also would have preferred less explicit sex scenes but the author and narrator captured the love between the couple well.

Way too long

I have never not finished an audiobook but with this story I had to genuinely have a debate with myself about how I couldn’t honestly waste one more hour of my life. I had one hour to go but I just couldn’t do it.

I love a romance, easy read or complex yet lots of things in this book were just off, the sex chat, the leads rambling pages of self talk and the lack of chemistry between the protagonists. I would give it a miss.

a solid mej

At the start of it I really hated this because the whole it's because the whole scene of arron not defending her.
he just turned and said we're done here but bitch if you cared speak up the first time.
Also the is felt really repetitive sometimes the way she strictly kept repeating How she didn't want to allow things in the past to happen again. It felt like the same point would just be discussed over and over again And it was a little irritating. Overall Lena just didn't feel like mature enough for Me she was meant to be 28 but felt like she was still in high school. And a lot of Aaron's lines just made me crunch sometimes like I don't know how to explain it but it felt like as if he knew he was a book character and didn't sound like an actual person the book character in the installing an actual person. Plus the way he kept repeating how big he was just really good my nose and it felt like he was meant to be a character you won't mean to see him as a regular person the way you are meant to see Lina.

The narrators voice when she’s doing aaron’s parts are terrible. The story is not bad.

Cute thou a bit predictable :)

but it's a good romance. Refreshing to read all the WHYs and ALTHOUGHs of two people falling in love, instead "two hot people see other and bam! just like that they are im love" trope.

OMG what a rollercoaster!!!

I can’t even begin to describe what this book has made me feel. There were so many times I felt like I was there. This book had so much detail it made me feel most of the emotions along the way. Honestly, if you are considering to listen, take this as a sign that this book is everything you expect and more.

not bad

the narrators voice was a little annoying for me, but I soon got used to it. the story just seemed to finish without a closure on it. having said this a I enjoyed the dynamics between the two central characters, would have liked the woman to be stronger and take more control of her thought processes but it entertained me for a couple of days. not sad I bought it.

Nice chick flick

An entertaining and spicy read. The narrator is not always great with the male character voice but still good entertainment.

Absolute drivel

I don’t write reviews usually, but in this case I thought it necessary
We selected this book for book club based on its astonishing good reviews
Four chapters in we have a poll going around to change this months read
Terribly written, awful characters and storyline the conversations have little point or direction
Really baffled how this received a goodreads choice award!

Confused

I had heard quite good reviews of this book and how the main character, Aaron, is a dreamboat. Having read only a few chapters, I cannot fathom why anyone would think this is a good book. I find Catalina quite unlikable as a character: she is stubborn, quite petty and her thoughts go on and on for pages, which could have been wrapped up in a paragraph. You have to wonder what Aaron sees in her when it's glaringly obvious that he's in love with her.
There isn't any build up or legitimate reason for Catalina and Aaron to be "enemies". Their rivalry is blown out of proportion and there isn't any substance to their arguments. Catalina harumps that Aaron is doing something annoying but Aaron finds it endearing and amusing? How? It is just irritating.
It is a shame and I do agree that it is a discount version of The Hating Game.

one of my new faves

In terms of romantic comedies, this one is one of the best I've ever read.
Catalina is super down to earth, a real girl with real problems. She panicked and told her family she was bringing her "boyfriend" to her sisters wedding.
It's a fake dating trope and it's been done so well!
I want to talk about the love interest Aaron for a moment. In MOST romance novels the males come off as too feminine and almost unrealistic because men don't behave or speak that way. In the Spanish live deception, even though Aaron was in love, he was manly about it.
I would definitely read this again and recommend it to my friends.
the performance was beautiful

Ouch

So many problematic moments in this book and unanswered questions. I have no idea why the two protagonists even like each other.

Good until it got cringe

Seemed a cute, fun little story until turning super cringey and over-the-top scripted. Smiles became grimaces and eye rolls. Great narration, could have been so much better with a bit of editing through the final chapters.

Putting the Corn in A(maíz)ing,

This book was so much fun to listen to. I saw some people saying they couldn’t stand it but sucks for them because this was such a good time.

At some points it does feel a little millennial in its language but it fits the character well. At points I suffered some second hand embarrassment and had to scream in my car at the same time, but it felt intended and made the experience so much more entertaining.

All the characters had charming qualities to them and the main few were very endearing. I listened to this any spare moment I could and I would do it again.

End note: I have not simped for a book boy the way I have for Aaron, in YEARS.

Rare return

I don't often return books I purchase here but this time I did. I bought it from a recommendation and regretted it from early in the listen. Tried to persevere but it never got better. It was a poorly written book with a jumpy storyline and boring plot. Characters fall flat and have no connection. The whole thing felt like a line of tropes sewn together with overdrawn internal monologue. I don't get the hype behind this book.

Cute romance

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very soft & sweet kind of romance with a spicy twist. It was super angsty & long but not in an overly drawn out way. I felt the story progressed perfectly and fit with their evolving relationship. The narrator was fantastic and I loved the Spanish flare to the performance. Definitely recommend for a feel good/cute romance read.

Great chemistry

This is a slow burn fake relationship story but wasn't too slow, just perfect. I've read reviews that say the characters had no chemistry..they must of been reading a different book because there was bucket loads of chemistry! Plot kept me listening right until the end. Narrators was also good. Only negative was sometimes there was too much internal dialogue for the female main character but the sexy male character, Aaron made up for it.
