1948. After serving with the French Resistance during the Second World War, codenamed La Chatte Noire, Phryne Fisher escaped to Australia in search of sunshine, butter and peace. So she’s furious when tragedy intrudes upon her newfound tranquillity and she discovers a dead man on Somerton Beach - well-dressed, good-looking and with a secret smile on his lips. The police are baffled as to his identity and cause of death - not to mention the scrap of paper bearing the words TAMAM SHUD found upon him, and the coded message in the book from which it was torn.

An orchestral conductor has been found dead and Detective Inspector Jack Robinson needs the delightfully incisive and sophisticated Miss Fisher's assistance. Hugh Tregennis has been murdered in a most flamboyant mode by a killer with a point to prove. But how many killers is Phryne really stalking? At the same time, the dark curls and disdainful air of mathematician and code-breaker Rupert Sheffield are taking Melbourne by storm. They've certainly taken the heart of Phryne's old friend from the trenches of WWI, John Wilson. Phryne recognises Sheffield as a man who attracts danger and is determined to protect John from harm.

This program includes a preface read by the author. In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees when a young woman literally stumbles into him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes - and match him wit for wit. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern 20th-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective.

great story but
the narrator was a disappointment, she made Corinna shrewish and hard rather than the warm generous but weary soul she is . she also read it like she was in a race which meant I kept losing my place and had to go back to pick up details missed in her rush to finish.

What happened?
I love this author & have been a long time fan of this series - I did not even check to see if the narrator had changed I was so happy to see the new addition to the series. The new Narrator (who I'm sure must have done other super narrations) has ruined this series
* Names are being mispronounced including Corrina's
*Accents are thicker and not as melodic
*When did Goss become a kiwi?
It all left me very confused and now much more vigilant with what I spend my credits on.

Why the reader change?
I love the Corrina Chapman books and own all the Audible versions. When I saw this I was tickled pink at a new one and bought it without looking at the performer. Big mistake.
To my mind this performer gave no life or feelings to any of the characters I love. She made Corinna into an unlikeable, rather shrewish, person and Daniel into a bit of a thug. The other characters didn’t fair as badly but not well either. I made myself listen to the whole thing. I hoped that my initial disappointment would change as I got used to the new voice. I finished as disappointed as when I started. The story might be good or even terrific but I couldn’t get past the new voices of the characters I love.
Why do writers feel the need to change performers? If Louise Siversen has died, I morn her loss and see why a replacement was necessary. However, I don’t foresee buying another Corinna Chapman audio book with the current performer.

Oh dear!
Liked the story. However, as a lot of us know, the narrator makes a huge impact on the story and the characters. Did not like this narrator at all. Made a big difference in how you saw the characters compared to the previous books. Daniel did not sound sexy, Karina sounded mediocre and uninteresting And the rest of the characters were not themselves. If the same narrator on the next book probably would not buy the Audible. Would read the book myself.

Oh dear.
All settled back for another Corinna and what did I hear? Oh, no. A different reader and one not at all like the previous one. I’m sure if I heard this reader read a different book, or if I hadn’t been so invested in the rest of the series I would have not been so shocked. It is especially noticeable if you do as i do and listen to them in series. I can’t I just can’t. It’s not just the different characterisations that get me, I could have adapted to that but it is also the pace. Too fast for me to listen to at normal speed and too slow at .75. I’m sure many will love this but even after multiple listening and aborted attempts I’ll just have to let this one moulder in the archives of my collection.😢

Insula from another dimension?
The setting is the same, the names are the same but these are different people from the ones I loved in the first six books. Corina is a condescending, humorless woman, the other people have also changed and not for the better. There is an abundance of the author’s views on politics, religion and society. Shakespeare is great but is used so much that it just feels like filler. Couldn’t finish. The narrator tries but adds so much to the feeling that this is a book from an entirely different series. So very disappointing.

Another solid entry in Corinna Chapman series
Corinna and Daniel's latest case is finding a lost dog. Alasdair, an Aghanistan Vet from Scotland, has PTSD soothed mainly by the companionship of his explosive-sniffing dog, Georgie. Because Alasdair trained Georgie using Gaelic commands, the dog was mustered out with him. But someone hit Alasdair on the head and stole Geordie. A second mystery concerns a girl in a wheelchair; her sister was killed, but since the event the girl is unable to walk or speak. Additionally there have been several breakins at the apartment-house by several different perpetrators. The tenants catch the first one clearly searching for something in Professor Monk's apartment. Before the police arrive and seal off the area, Corinna appropriates the professor's notes so he can continue working on his manuscript after the scene of the crime is off-limits. Corinna herself corners another intruder and acquits herself admirably with a folded umbrella (she excelled at fencing in school) until she rips off his mask and finds no face underneath (just another mask) making her lose concentration... As usual, all the mysteries are wrapped up neatly
At one point in the book, Corinna, Daniel, and Alasdair break into a compound to steal back Geordie, but when they try to get away all hell breaks lose. There is shooting, and there are explosions. Then there is Corinna's friendly but stern neithborhood policewoman. This section includes a brief but interesting editorial explaining that in Australia only certain police can fire guns because they wouldn't want the police banging away at citizens on a whim -- and that this is regardless of amendment...

Terrible Audio Good story
The narrator was very poor. She spoke to fast and if there was an audio technician they should be fired. Sound was very muddy and not at all up to Belinda Audio standards. As usual Kerry Greenwood produced a wonderful story. Read the book don't listen to it.

Why did they change the narrator?
As you would expect from Kerry Greenwood, this long awaited installment of Corinna Chapman's adventures is excellent. We drop into her world as though we never left and the adventures that are contained within these 'covers' are completely satisfying. I won't go into the actual story as I don't want to spoil it but if you give it a go, you will love it. If you love the other books, you will love this one and all I would say is I really hope we don't have to wait so long for the next one.
I have one gripe, the narrator and to be fair I don't think she did a bad job, Jennifer Vuletic did a good job, BUT I hate having the narrator swapped, particularly when all the other books are read by one other person. I have a bit of a problem with some of her character interpretations and some of the ways she pronounces names but on the whole it was read well. If you came to this story first I am sure you would be absolutely fine but I have listened to all the other books many, MANY times and I like the performance of Louise Siversen so this sounded a bit too shrill and harsh in places. Again, this version is actually a good version but it would have been so much better if they had used Louise again.
Please BOLINDA/AMAZON/AUDIBLE, stop messing around with series narrators when they are doing an excellent job. If we can have a version read by Louise I will happily buy that version as well.

Great story... but....
Kerry Greenwood is a wonderful and creative person, her stories transport you there.
Sadly, this narrator did not do this story any justice at all. She sounded like she was doing a time trial and each chapter had to finished quicker than the previous one.
She made Corinna sound like a screeching shrew! As for the rest of characters they to were a disappointment.

Another great story in the Corrina Chapman series
I'm enamoured of Kerry Greenwood's writing style and characters. This series has a lot of appeal for me, and this book holds its own well as part of the series.
While i always find a change of narrator part-way through a series of audiobooks to be a jarring experience, the transition here has been as smooth as possible and, if a change of narrator was unavoidable, then Jennifer Vuletic was an extremely good choice. I've not heard her narration before but she's going on my list of very listenable narrators.
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable story with a great narrator. I'd recommend this one.

Not as good as the previous books.
The story is a bit slow and plodding. I also can't say I'm a fan of the new narrator. She's okay but I prefer the original narrator for this series. It is also a little jarring to suddenly hear a new voice narrating characters you are used hearing a certain way. Not sure if I actually liked this book to be honest.

enjoyed story but...….
A long awaited story in this series which I enjoyed HOWEVER it was spoiled somewhat by the narrator who, although competently done, was just not Corrina for me. At first I thought that Louise Siverson (the real Corrina) had passed away as has Stephanie Daniel who was a great Phryne but, not so, as I have checked. What were Bolinda thinking of?
Still, it was great to have a new book by Kerry Greenwood and, no doubt, I will get used to the new narrator.

narrator ruins this ...
anyone who loves these series has come to expect the voices, and characters to be a certain way, while i understand things change, the narrator didn't even attempt to continue on, on the previous 6 books characters now have completely different accents (from Australian to new Zealand in two characters cases) and pronounces many characters names totally wrong. such a let down on an otherwise great story

So Disappointing :-(
I had so looked forward to this book, having really enjoyed the earlier books in the series, but I just couldn’t get into this one.
The storyline is so weak with such improbable events that I kept turning it off in frustration. It was only the memory of the quirky rollicking yarns that I had enjoyed in the earlier books that made me keep trying. Although all my favourite characters were still loveable, they didn’t grow in any way and the new ones seemed like cardboard cut-outs with no personality at all. And it is all painted over with so many words that any substance there might be in the story just drowns in the detail.
I’m sorry Kerry. I guess you are entitled to have one dud in such a good series, but please give Corinne a story she deserves next time!

Another great Kerry Greenwood book
Loved the story, disappointed that Louise Siversen wasn’t the narrater, changed the way I saw some of the characters.

oh no!
I just started listening to this book. Book 7 in the series and I am so disappointed. It is not narrated by Louise Siversen as all the others have been and instead of feeling like a comfortable friend it feels weird.

Narrated by a drunken Sloane Ranger unintelligible
I love the KG style, humour, references and characters. I was never a fan of the previous narrator Louise Siversen who couldn't do male voices and accents with any facility. Unfortunately, the new narrator, while she can do a passable male Israeli, and differentiates the voices better, she has imbued Corinna with slurred attempt at a private school girl.
Right now the audiobook is running in the background and I can not bear it. The drunken, pretentious voice is so grating that I just block it out. IT IS UNBELIEVABLY BAD. I can't read at the moment due to cataracts, so I am going to have to wait for the years it will take to get surgery or the publishers create a new, tolerable recording.
I can't speak to the story, style, characterisation or anything else of this volume in the series, because I literally can't get through it.

Change isn’t always a good thing
A perfectly acceptable performance but why change the reader after six books? None of the characters sounded right. It almost felt like this book didn’t fit in the series.

Another fun romp through Melbourne
If you've read the other Corina Chapmen books and enjoyed them, then you'll love this latest installment.
These books are relaxing, fun, and easy to read. Good characters and another puzzling mystery to leisurely follow.
This series is great bedtime or holiday reading, or in a year like 2020 when you just want a nice break from the weight of the world.

Love the story, pity about the change of narrator
The story is more like the Melbourne prior 2020, I do I I’ve the humour. My only criticism is that I am really not loving the new narrator. This is Australia and not New Zealand - we have very different accents.
