Story
The New Yorker raved that her bestselling memoir, The Spy Wore Red, "reads like a perfect thriller." Now the real-life model-turend-spy presents a thirlling novel of suspense -- based on the true intrigues of Carlos the Jackal. One of the most infamous names in the history of espionage, Carlos managed to elude his enemies for decades...until his recent arrest made headlines across the world. This exciting ficitonal account reveals the insidious methods -- and brilliant genius -- behind his international maneuvers. It is the story of a man whose smooth, cultured charm hides a secret identity and a shattering plot -- and the one woman who discovers he is actually the notorious Carlos the Jackal. The inspiration for the Countess of Romanones' novel was her own actual meeting with Carlos the Jackal in 1977, when he delivered documents to her home in Madrid; and her experience as a consultant with a wide variety of world specialists on international terrorism.

In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

Interesting story, wrong narrator.
I enjoyed the close-up look at one person’s involvement with the OSS, especially as It was hard to believe that a 20 year old girl could do what she did. The narrator might have been suitable for the prologue and epilogue, told by the main character as an older womanAline but the narrator’s refined and deliberate delivery was totally wrong for telling the story of a young woman in the situation she found herself in in 1944.

A very well written espionage story. I was amazed to discover that it's not fiction. Narration was very good too, and it is free! What a treat! There are so many espionage stories about WWII but this one is much better than many of them.
