Sure, lesbians love to bring a U-Haul on the second date. But what happens when the U-Haul crashes? For Amelia Stone, it's a literal question as much as a figurative one. When plans to move in with her girlfriend go sideways, she's left with more questions about their future than answers. It doesn't help that she's spending far more time with the paramedic who came to her rescue than the woman she's supposed to be in love with.

While the investigations go on in Dallas and Baton Rouge after the disappearance of a senator's daughter, FBI agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are assigned to the sleepy backwoods of East Texas for a dead-end assignment to infiltrate an all-girls school. Random disappearances dating back 50 years and more raise red flags that point to the tiny, isolated community of Hoganville. Publisher's Summary
Self-described city girl Lexie Walton is a million miles from nowhere and completely out of her element.
Park ranger Kyler Clemons had loved the vibe and the beach of Mustang Island. Getting caught with her boss’ wife, however, got her transferred to the wild and remote Davis Mountains State Park - literally in the middle of nowhere. Now after four years, she’s forgotten about the beach and has embraced the mountain life, feeling like a local. She hangs out at the Cottonwood Creek Bar and Grill. She watches football with Mark Walton. She’s taken up birdwatching and stargazing as hobbies. She is perfectly content. No stress. No drama. And no desire to date.
Then Lexie Walton waltzes into her life.
After losing her cushy job in Austin - and unable to find another one - Lexie accepts her parents’ offer to join them and her brother in running a rustic lodge and restaurant in the remote Davis Mountains of West Texas. Hesitant to commit to such a drastic move, she agrees to a trial run - two months. Two months would get her through Christmas and the New Year. Her friends thought she was foolish to make such a move. There was no nightlife, no parties, no spin class, and no green smoothies. And no chance of dating. That was a plus, however. After her breakup with Crazy Cathy, she wanted no part of the dating game. This remote area would do nicely.
But then she meets this cute, tree-hugging park ranger who turns her world completely upside down.

Texas lover
Yea , Gerri! My wife , the love of my life, and I met while stationed in Alaska 36 years ago...cross country skiing and extreme camping.... We were together 3 days when she asked me to follow her to her next duty assignment in San Antonio, Texas.
I eagerly said yes and the following year, moved out with her. We live on a10 acre farm in Pipe Creek, in the Hill Country area of Texas, full of rescued horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and other creatures, including our own bird garden.
We are surrounded by 6000 acres of protected land and appreciate the way that Gerri Hill tells her stories about Texas. The state is so large that each section holds something unique and glorious. She's got the environment and the people right on. Love the Davis Mt and Marfa. Go see the Marfa lights. xoxo!

Pure romance. Not bad, just not my cup of tea.
I have been binging Gerri Hill's work. I started with the crime/detective novels. I really enjoy that combo of romance and mystery. So I wasn't sure if I would enjoy a pure romance novel. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy the listen. Abby Craden is a great narrator. The characters are enjoyable. The romance is sweet. As always Gerri Hill does a wonderful job of setting the wilderness scene, but I am just not a huge fan of pure romance. Throw in a good mystery or something paranormal and I am in.

I Have Every Gerri Hill Book and Audible Book
Another classic story of wounded souls finding their soulmate. Park ranger Kyler Clemons transferred to wild and remote Davis Mountain State Park. It turned out to be just the place she needs. When her best friend Mark’s sister Lexie Walton comes to help her family at the rustic lodge they own and run, both their lives are turned upside down. A marvelous depiction of the joys of nature and the wilds. Another Abby Craden gold star performance. Recommend.

Fun, with flaws
I liked the characters, dug the setting, enjoyed the pacing. But the thing I didn't enjoy was how the same concepts were repeated a dozen times, ad nauseum. The 'we're not each other's type' was especially over-prevalent. As an initial way to keep the characters apart, it was fine, but even the second time it was mentioned was too much. Upshot, it felt very bare of story concepts. The narrator was Abby Craden, which means she did a great job.

Be forewarned
When a story is sprinkled with regional names it is also littered with pitfalls for the narrator. Someone made sure Abby pronounced Pedernales correctly (Color me surprised!), but they let her mispronounce Chihuahua. Come on. Seriously? She got tripped up on Pecos and pinion and a few others too, but none were as bad as pronouncing every letter of Chihuahua with English phonetics. I’ve never heard anyone say it that way except as a joke.
Abby does a great many things well. She did in this story too, but to people who know these places and words these mistakes will jump out, sometimes distractingly so. If that’s a thing that will bug you, maybe read this one rather than listen.
Now I’ve got that out of the way, I liked the story. Gerri is a good writer. Her characters feel real, rich, layered. I’d recommend this listen/ read

I loved that ghee was no angst in this book. No cheating, no characters being bitchy just a decision to be made and lots of talking things through AND it still managed to be a lovely story that I’ve listened to twice already.

A beautiful love story
This is such a beautiful story. It's the second I've read by Geri Hill and I'm so in love with the way she evokes the natural scenery. She also creates such loveable characters - not only the romantic leads, but I also really enjoyed the brother here. It was nice to see his growth. And both Lexi and Chyler were lovely leads. I enjoyed their teasing and flirting and it was a joy to see them fall in love. Abby Craden reads really well and does such a good range of voices! I'm pleased to see that other novels by Hill have also been narrated by her and look forward to listening to them. I'll definitely be looking for more!
