Publisher's Summary

Darkness is descending on the small town of Rio Verde, Arizona. An evil older than time is rising from the desert, waiting for night to fall and a reign of terror to begin....

Brad Woods has performed a lot of autopsies, but never one like this. The body is purged of all blood.

Fear has made Sue Wing run from the darkened school and into night, a fear so powerful she can only name it using the Cantonese myths of her grandmother: Cup-hu-girngsi, the corspe who drinks blood.

Reporters like Rich Carter don't believe in the supernatural, but all the signs are pointing to the same conclusion: a vampire is stalking the streets of Rio Verde.

No, Rich Carter doesn't believe in such things. Not yet. But he will come to believe with a faith borne of horror after horror....

Bentley’s back

I fell in love with the first Bentley Little book I ever listened to, “The Influence”, then for some reason ever other book of his I read didn’t do it for me. Their was no depth of story. “The Summoning” is the first one of his books I really enjoyed since “The Influence”. It was a pretty fresh vampire story. There’s nothing sexy about this Dracula. Definitely worth a listen.

it's not Salem's Lot

it's okay, has some suspenseful parts and the narration is top-notch. the problem I have with the book is the characters, everything they do is wrong and and basically goes against human nature, they're so dumb you almost want them to die, and many of the characters they actually do kill you don't want to die... aside from that entertaining

Full of Clichés

I get tired of the same storyline from authors. There is always a Christian pastor/priest/etc. who winds up being the source of evil with his clichéd bad upbringing, fear of sex, obsession with damnation. This book is another one of those. It would be refreshing to read from an author that doesn’t rely on the same tropes.

Not the vampires you know

Dark and twisted- I am a huge fan of horror and Bentley Little. But I almost could not finish this book. It was so disturbing I feel like I need to wash my brain. I think that speaks to his gift as an author but brace yourself, this one is not for the weak of heart.

I never thought...

...anyone could write a story like this other than "The King ". I was wrong. Had me on the edge of my seat.

Too Slow

I am new to Audible and I just enjoy the Bentley Little books that I have listen to so far. This novel is just too slow. This was the longest of the Bentley Little books that I have listen to. It’s like almost 8 hours to build up to the climax and to the killings of the vampire. Plus I don’t think it was a very good vampire story there is another vampire book on audible that I think the public would enjoy is called 100 Fathoms Below. I might have to put down the Bentley little books for now.

Entertaining enough .

Pretty much followed Bently Little's horror theme, evil in small desert town that eventually gets conquered by local antagonists. Entertaining but not my favorite . Narration was very good.

Definitely NOT twilight...

and if you're looking for that kind of story...this isn't that kind of vampire story... no glitter and prettyboys here!
this story is raw, very well written and keeps you listening... there are some rough real world human monster behaviors explicitly described BUT it's not for, not totally for, shock value...it fits the narrative.
I found the story fantastic and enjoyed it very much. you will not be disappointed...

A frustrating listen

He’s a good writer but it was far too drawn out and irritating how everyone ignores the blatantly obvious
