Emma would do anything to work for the woman who has the job she wants. Carrie is at the top of her game, with a dream career, a baby on the way, and a handsome screenwriter husband. For Emma, with parents who don't understand her ambition and a serious misstep behind her, this temp position might be her last chance. Carrie has given up more than anyone knows to get to the top of a ruthless business. She won't give up this baby, too. But with Emma filling in for her at the office, her perfect life starts to unravel. Her bank account is inexplicably overdrawn, her husband seems strangely distant, and colleagues are all too happy to take Emma's creative direction. Carrie finds herself dying to get back to work...until a letter left at her door changes everything.

Intelligent and different...

Riveting to the point of I simply couldn't get anything done. It was long but a great story. I haven't read anything like it and I've read a lot of thrillers. The narration was good, the inside of the television series production world was interesting as well as the tension of just who was lying and about what. I can't imagine a bad review. It seems this would have broad speak to drama, mystery, and thriller lovers alike. I think people should actually read the book before they leave a crappy review. It's good, really good.

Shocked Me at the End!

Wow! I listened to this book in a day; I couldn’t stop! The story was great and I had absolutely no problem with the description of the young baby keeping the mother up late at night, as one reviewer said. It wasn’t a huge part of the story and it just seemed like normal baby behavior. I really had no idea whatsoever about the biggest twist at the end. I can’t even remember if there were any hints early on. If there were, it was barely touched on so that my mind never worked on connecting anything. For that reason, it is the biggest shock I remember hearing in a long time. That shock is the reason I read books; what I live for! I can’t wait for more by this author. BTW, The Girlfriend (same author) is great too.

The Author knows nothing about babies !!!!

The author has the baby still waking every 3 hours when he's 7 or 8 months old. Give me a break! The story got too far fetched for me. Everything got very predictable Waste of credit

Don’t Waste Your Time

This story was a terrible assault on my intellect. It is a massive bore overall. I quit before it ended because it was that bad. I watched Tiger King all the way through… in case that helps give perspective.

When does it get good?

I couldn't finish this book. I'm starting Part 3 and I have yet to feel a connection to any of the characters, any anticipation of what's to come, and quite frankly, I'm baffled on why this was rated so highly. The story keeps droning on and on with no unexpected twists. The one event that happened which was out of the norm (I won't spoil it but had to do with Elaine), I'm still confused on the real relevance and significance of the occurrence. Maybe it will somehow tie together in the end but I will never know. BORING!

Lost me at the end.

Lovely narrator and an interesting story, but the conclusion is so far-fetched and lacks any sort of real justice that it left me unsatisfied.

Enjoyable unpredictable

I love how Michelle uses the folly of humans lead by their assumptions to bring her characters to life. I also enjoy not quite knowing who the ‘bad guy’ is as each character has their own flaws that make you wonder...
