Pretty good story
I bought this book because I read that the Repairman Jack series is similar to Lee Child's series. Well, I can see the similarities, and looking forward to reading further books in the series (when Audible makes them available). I don't think the plot is as good as in lee Child's books, though. It became pretty clear how everything will turn out a few hours before the end of the book. Still, the action sequences are good and Repairman Jack character is quite appealing.

Solid start to what looks to be a great series!
Not sure how I missed this series, but glad a friend recommended it recently! Good story, well developed characters (that you can actually care about), and very well paced, never a dull moment! Won't give anything away, other than to say I give this book my highest recommendation! Also worthy of note is the excellent narration by Joe Barrett - he may be my favorite narrator now, very reminiscent of the late, great, Frank Muller - and that is the highest praise I could give any narrator! Can't wait to start the next book, though I see Mr. Barrett is not the narrator this time around, too bad - will be listening to some of his other work in the near future!

Fascinating
Where does The Tomb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
On the top ten. So high up on my list that I have decided to purchase all the Repairman Jack books. Jack is an amazing guy. I feel like he is about to become one of my best friends.
What did you like best about this story?
It is fiction based on past events. I am old enough to remember most of what happens in his book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Neither but then I am not too emotional.

Definitely worth a listen
A fascinating story in an unexpected setting???the author does a good job tying an old Hindu curse to modern day New York.
Even though some of the retrospective chapters might get a bit boring, there is enough action to keep the listener engaged and on edge.
It???s only a pity that the next stories in the series are not available on Audible, as I really wanted to listen to more of Repairman Jack???s adventures.

So Disappointing
The Early Years promised so much.
A battered young "equalizer" determined to set right some of the wrongs suffered by good people. Jack is creative. His skills develop. There is a metropolis of opportunity for his type of repairs.
Ah, but before Jack has even started to combat the ordinary evil of which ordinary men are capable, Paul Wilson gives us The Tomb. Now Jack can battle near-invulnerable creatures, shaped by ancient gods to vanquish mankind. He can cavort with magically-enhanced courtesans. He can fight to save India from a depraved politician. Sigh.
I am sure there are many readers who will suspend disbelief to enjoy this fanciful tale. The reviews here seem to prove that so. Maybe I could have, too. But the Early Years novels spoiled me. They held the promise of a more real-world champion confronting more believable challenges.
Wilson gave us the equivalent of a comic book, instead. Sure, there's a place for comic book heroes battling supernatural evils. I just wish this weren't one of them.

Kept my ears wanting more!
What made the experience of listening to The Tomb the most enjoyable?
Great story, well written, fast paced, and characters I came to care about.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot, while fiction and rather "dark," was just realistic enough to be mesmerizing. I loved how over the course of the story we learn just enough about "Jack," to root for him when he needed it most! Jack is a "soft," "tough" guy -- as you listen to the story you'll understand this description of him better. I had never heard about this author or his series of books about Repairman Man Jack, by luck of the draw I decided to give this book a try. I assure you I will be listening to every one of his books in this series. I LOVED it.
Have you listened to any of Joe Barrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first time hearing of both this story and it's narrator Mr. Joe Barrett. Mr. Barrett is great and I think his performance contributed significantly to the "life" and "feel," of the characters and the overall story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Repairman Jack is not for your ordinary tinkering: extraordinary repairs only need apply.
Any additional comments?
Loved this, will definitely listen to all the books related to Repairman Jack. I love this series as much as I did the "Oregon Files."

The Librarians & Warehouse 13 Meet jack Reacher
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
NO not really. I was intrigued at first. Other listeners were comparing Repairman Jack to jack Reacher who stayed in one place. Then entered Indian (not native american but country of India) mythology. Now I like mythology when I want to about it. I thought this was a basic suspense thriller. I was surprised when the creatures showed up and magic necklaces that heal and keep you young. I contacted the author to ask if this mythology type stuff is in every book-and he said "the larger arcs def have a fantastic / mythic element" . I may check out the 2nd in the series when and if it comes on sale but I won't a credit on it
What do you think your next listen will be?
Back to my usual crime suspense thrillers Like Joe Pickett, Harry Bosch, Longmire, Kay Scarpetta, Harry Hole, Dept Q, King & Maxwell, Authors: Stuart Neville, Adrian McKinty, Karin Slaughter, Tana French
What does Joe Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I never listened to anything he has read before I would like to in the future, He was great at swtiching voices, good inflection, pleasing tone
Was The Tomb worth the listening time?
not in my opinion. other reviews made a comment I agree with: don't think too much. Very true. There were many flaws, meaning you are just getting to know Repairman Jack and you are pretty sure how he is going to react to something and he totally misses it-doesnt even occur to him-like he had a brain fart or senior moment. And you find yourself talking to book- Definitely don't think about it-its not worth your effort.
Any additional comments?
It might make an interesting TV movie like on the SyFy channel but not big screen.

I think that I am going to like this series!
I am just beginning to listen to F.P. Wilson's Repairman Jack series for the first time (I have now reached #3: "Conspiracies"); and, so far, I love it. "The Tomb" starts it all off with a bang, and leaves you hungry for more of Jack's adventures. If you like true thrillers -- with just a soupçon of the supernatural -- then you will enjoy "The Tomb." I liked Wilson's incorporation of the (alleged, but probably apocryphal) pre-Vedic humanoid monsters called Rakoshi into the story. These Rakoshi -- governed by the Hindu goddess Kali -- embody all of the evil and malevolence of humankind, with none of the good. Jack must overcome these virtually invincible demons with only his wits (Jack has lots of wits), since not much can harm them. Very personal incentives motivate him to succeed, or to die trying. Other reviewers have rightly compared Repairman Jack with Lee Child's protagonist, Jack Reacher ... except with that added touch of the supernatural. Like Jack Reacher, Repairman Jack lives outside the laws and conventions of society -- for instance, he has no last name and no Social Security number -- while still fighting for the good, against wickedness. Unlike Reacher, however, Repairman Jack stays put in NYC, pretty much. Author F. P. Wilson -- whom, I understand, has an M.D., and still practices medicine -- writes beautifully and intelligently. Narrator Joe Barrett does an excellent job of reading "The Tomb," harnessing many different voices and accents (including the difficult Hindi accent) to clearly distinguish all the characters from one another. It disappointed me to discover that the audiobook publishers did not employ Mr. Barrett to narrate the rest of the Repairman Jack series. (The subsequent narrator, Christopher Price, does okay, but not as well as Mr. Barrett.) In short, I highly recommend "The Tomb" to all thriller-lovers who aren't put off by a touch of the supernatural.

This book is an instant favorite with me and I intend to read the complete series all 15 books. Jack is an instantly likeable character and I like the supernatural theme in these books.
F. Paul Wilson has a writing style I really enjoy and the narration was very good.
