Publisher's Summary

This brand-new unabridged audio book of The Two Towers, the second part of J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic adventure, The Lord of the Rings, is read by the BAFTA award-winning actor, director and author Andy Serkis.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.

This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Incredible to listen too

The performance that Andy Serkis gives in this version of the two towers is incredible. It was nice to hear gollum’s voice again voicing all of the dialogue rather than snippets from the films. How Andy portrays the orcs is also amazing, each orc has a different voice which really adds to the depth of the story.

I also like the fact that the book is split in half, between the two sets of characters so it doesn’t feel jarring going from plot to plot. Would highly recommend.

Serkis is spendid

You can tell Andy is engaged and truly love this work. He does all voices justice and even the songs and poems. Great quality overall! But on chapter 6 at 33:56 Andy receives a message on facebook messenger or something and you can hear the notification, it threw me off. This should not happen or at the very least should have been re-recorded.

Very good version with two hiccups

I loved it all in all except for two points.

The voice for Éowyn and the singing while doing the ent voice. The latter was seriously terrible.

But other than that it was amazing! Ever classical tale in a great rendition.

Gollum!

Did I walk around in public with a huge grin when I heard Serkis' Gollum return in this the best version of this tale?
Yes, I did.

In general, Serkis does a very good job with all the characters, with some clearly inspired from the movies.
Would recommend this to everyone!

A terrific experience

Serkis has done a fantastic job in narrating the trilogy. This was a great experience as a first time reader of the trilogy. Serkis does a fantastic job in creating the atmosphere with each character distinctive voices that are connected to the movies and, of course, you cannot forget the performance of Gollum. I grew to enjoy this book while listening and I am looking forward to listening to The Return of the King.

Yorkshire!

This gets 5 stars because Serkis gave all Gondorians a Yorkshire accent, the greatest accent in the world.

Boromir seems less out of place amongst his Kingsman now, particularly his brother and father.

Serkis gives this everything! I wish he hadn't

I really enjoyed Serkis' highly animated reading of The Fellowship, but this one just takes it too far. It's more like a one-man radio play than an audiobook. The orc and ent voices in particular are so over-the-top that I spent the entirety of several sections cringing and desperately wanting them to be over. Good luck listening to this for evening relaxation; if you set the volume to be able to hear the quieter sections, you will have to endure full-on shouting from Serkis when the action picks up. It's certainly a strong performance, but I'm wondering who exactly briefed him and why they didn't suggest he tone things down a bit. The best thing I can say about this one is at least there weren't as many songs to endure. Although the ent song is particularly painful, I skipped through most of it.

Simply fantastic

The story is, as most of us know, epic and fantastic. New is the reading, which is so good I'm lost for words. Andy has really put the bar up high with this one. I can't recommend it warmly enough.

Andy Serkis is THE Tolkien narrator.

His voice fits the story perfectly, especially the orcs and Gollum of course. I just hope he goes on to do The Silmarillion!

Perfect!

Andy Serkis does justice to this series and the characters, obviously as Gollum, but give distinct and full life to the other characters without mimicking his colleagues.
