Publisher's Summary

Daisy McCrae's life is in tatters. She's lost her job, broken up with her boyfriend, and has been reduced to living in the attic above her family's store, the Union Street Bakery, while learning the business. Making things worse is the constant feeling of not being a "real" McCrae, since she was adopted as a child and has a less-than-perfect relationship with her two sisters. Then a long-standing elderly customer passes away, and for some reason she bequeaths to Daisy a journal dating back to the 1850s, written by a slave girl named Susie. As she reads, Daisy learns more about her family - and her own heritage - than she had ever imagined. Haunted by dreams of the young Susie, she is compelled to look further into the past of the town and her family.

Great book

Loved the story line. This could have really happened. The narrator brought the characters to life.
I didn't like all the dirty language used. There's no call for it.

Intriguing story line

Interesting book, but if you're looking for a cozy mystery, this is not it. In fact, it's not s mystery at all. It is the story of an adopted woman in search of her birth parents.

I'd like my money back

I was looking for a cozy murder mystery and this popped up. It's def not a murder mystery, and it's got ghosts, wghich I really don't like and they weren' t mentioned in the summary. Wordt of all though, the characters were so uninteresting I just couldn't care about them. So no, did not like this at all.

Nice!

I enjoyed this story very much but it was not my favorite. I liked how it had several different stories.

Love it!

What did you love best about The Union Street Bakery?

Great book!!!! Can't wait to read the next in the series. The character development is good and the presentation is a perfect fit for the story. Probably on of the best I have had from Audible yet.

Slow start

It took me a while to get into this story. Once I did it was a pretty good story though I do have to say the background story of the history of the family and historical information on Alexandria and slaves and even the ghosts were much more interesting than Daisy and her sisters. I do feel bad for Daisy with her family situation and birth mother issues but as much as I wanted to I just could not like her at all. I will probably still get the second book for my work commute but it was definitely not a favorite.

Great story

I really enjoyed the story. However the splattering of expletives throughout the story seems excessive and unnecessary most of the time, I don’t believe most people speak like that. But I did enjoy the story.
