Snap. Upload. Ruin a reputation.

In this pause-resisting short story from international bestselling author Jeffery Deaver, senior detective Jon Avery inherits a deeply troubling case. At an off-campus party, university professor Rose Taylor is drugged, undressed, and photographed on a burner phone. In seconds her humiliation is uploaded, and millions of JPEGs are zipping like immortal wasps through the internet. But why would someone target her? She has no vengeful exes or rival academics, no stalkers or unhinged students. Jon Avery, the sharpest, most experienced investigator in the sheriff’s office, is determined to find out who’s behind this horrific invasion of privacy. But soon he runs into a wall of silence at Preston College - an academic mecca whose reputation one doesn’t dare tarnish. The message is clear: if he pursues the case, he’ll pay for it.

A detective who didn’t give up

A novella that shows just how modern technology can be damaging to one’s life. It was quick and well done. Narration was absolutely perfect. I am on the lookout for more books with narrator Scott Merriman. Recommended.

Unexpected and satisfying

It seemed like it should be a pretty straightforward story. There were some twists that were unexpected. The ending was something I never thought of.

Not for me

Not a bad little story but I did not care for presentation. The attempt at ‘acting was so distracting I couldn’t concentrate on story.

Okay Story

First off I would like to say that I am a huge Jeffery Deaver fan, but not so much with this story, I just could not get all the way into it. Scott Merriman also did an okay job with the narration.

THE VICTIMS' CLUB: A Short Story by Jeffery Deaver

This book was okay but not as good as some of Mr. Deaver's other short stories. It wasn't real exciting or memorable in my opinion. I never felt any sort of connection to the victim or the detective investigating her sexual assault case either.

The narrator (Scott Merriman) did a good job with his pacing and expressions but I wasn't a fan of his female voices which sounded too breathy or not at all feminine. Still, I liked his overall execution and think the narration enhanced my reading experience.

Jeffrey Deaver at his delightful best

Here is another policing story with all the twists & trns and assorted characters very relevant University students & familiar flaws in occasional Staff Members and/ misfit students... This is an notable read BUT far too short having expected one of the authors full length Policing Mysteries!
