Publisher's Summary

In this newest Prison Camp installment, #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward pens a heart-wrenching tale of love and betrayal in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world…

Framed for the grisly murder of his shellan, Kane is condemned to the notorious prison camp—unaware of the dark truth behind his arranged mating. Centuries later, when he is horribly burned while attempting to save others, he prays he’ll finally be reunited in the Fade with his mate…not knowing what revelations await him.

Nadya is a self-taught nurse who does what she can to ease the suffering of the prisoners. When Kane comes under her care, she cannot help but empathize with his condition for very personal reasons—and as the guards take him away one last time, she fears he is facing a terrible death.

After a daring rescue, Kane is offered a treatment that will change his very nature. Choosing life, for the time being, he goes back for the female who took such good care of him—but his duty to Nadya sets him on a collision course with his own past. When long-buried secrets are exposed, his self-destruction is inevitable…unless true love can save his soul.

The BDB world is so complex!

J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood world is more complex than meets the eye. She has built a fully functional world within a " normal " world. This story only helps to take you deeper into it and makes you wonder what could really be out there in our "real" world. When I'm engrossed in her world, I think of all the folklore that abounds and man, does she make you think! Her writing is so well crafted and presented that you can't help but devour the story until the end. Not only have we met and come to love vampires, but you will also now find yourself coming to care for other creatures of the night so to speak.

This story is the continuation of her prison camp series and takes place in the underworld of the BDB series. We meet Kane and Nadya in this story and we learn just how dirty and underhanded the rich and powerful of the vampire world can be. Kane is imprisoned for a murder he didn't commit and Nadya it turns out "chose" imprisonment as a type of self-punishment to her family as well as for herself. It was deep! By the end of the book, you'll know and understand a lot more of how the glymera, (Not sure if I spelled that right), works and just what it means to be under their rule.

Some of our favorite Black Dagger members make their very helpful appearance and we are introduced to a few more people I think will prove to be very vital in later books, but this is just a guess. I can't see this world coming to a conclusion anytime soon as there are so many different ways to continue. With Ms. Ward's imagination, the future is limitless!

I haven't given any information about the actual story because I don't want to give any spoilers. I can't say enough that this series is so worth reading. J. R. has given me one of the few series I haven't lost interest in and don't think I will anytime soon. Can't say enough good things about this series and can't wait for the next installment!!!

on the verge of boring

It took me like forever to get through this book. For some reason it did not hold my attention like other BDB books in the past. The story was okay but there were certain aspects of it I didn't care for. The characters as usual were all interesting but something about this book just didn't sit well with me.
Maybe my interest in the whole BDB world is on a down spin. Sometimes interest in a series does wane. I know a lot of BDB fans will and have loved this book but it was just "Meh" for me. Hopefully future books will hold my attention span.

Scary, sad and not much actual romance

I enjoyed listening to this story. I didn't really understand the sickness and healing even if he was a snake. Did he become a shape shifter or a host to it? Interesting.

Amazing as always

The Warden did not disappoint! I loved listening to Jim bring this story alive! Cain was such a lovable character and it was so easy to connect to him. I also loved getting to see a different side of V! He always acts so damn tough but he’s such a softy! Can’t wait to hopefully read about Apex next!

Great addition to BDB

I’m a huge BDB fan and I don’t know why some other fans are so hard on the Prison Camp series. It’s not all about the original characters but I think we know that going in. The original characters play a larger role in these books than I anticipated. I enjoyed all three of this series so far and I hope there are more so I can learn what happens to some of the other characters introduced here.

As always great

Jim is such a great narrator. Really draws you into the story. JR Ward is masterful writer, transporting to a place, you can feel the action, the romance, the pain as you move thru the book.
Can’t wait for the next Instillation.

Makes me want to go to prison lol

She never makes us wait too long for her next book and spin offs generally don't hit off well, buuutttt...I LOVE THIS SERIES!! You still get the main characters from BDB, you get all new dudes. As always, there's a great balance of action and ACTION. *waggles eyebrows* I love the narrator too and the fact it's the same one everytime. He has such a great voice. Can't wait for the next story!! Thanks Mrs. Ward!!
