Marooned on a sand planet, injured, and separated from her crew, Captain Danica Miller is not having a good day. When she’s rescued from the desert by a huge, gold-skinned alien, she doesn’t know whether to be relieved or to panic. Not only is he clearly a barbarian — a barely-dressed one at that — he seems to be able to read her thoughts. Even worse? She can sense his. And he seems to think she’s his to claim.

Publisher's Summary
Even the strongest man in the world has a weak spot!
Magni knows what he wants, and he's used to getting it. As the second-in-command in the Northlands, he doesn't care that he comes across as rude or domineering. Asking for permission or apologizing for his actions is for weaker men.
Six months ago, Laura was Magni's sweet and submissive young wife. Tempted to experience the independence of women in the Motherlands and to learn martial arts, she ran away. Now, she's back, stronger and more confident than before, determined not to let a man dominate her, not even the one she once fell in love with and married.
Is there a way for Magni and Laura to be a couple again with her need for independence and his need for control? And can someone as proud as Magni overcome his anger with Laura for leaving him in the first place?
Contains mature themes.

Great installment!
Things are changing on all directions for Magni. He being to strongest warrior in the world doesn’t deal well with change. He struggles but learns not to fight the changes.
But this book is more than Laura and Magni story. I’ve read these books before…the Northlands is changing and it’s a fun ride. It’s really fun watching it grow up. Nmen will always be nmen and I love that part.
The narrators are perfect. Both of them. My favorite books in this series is the first and Athlete and Genius and maybe all of them.

Magni is a man of loyalty.
This book is full of problems and differences between a couple. Some of them are too typical, still I thought there were helpful tips for couples who think the other is hard to understand. I found love between Mila and Magni so nice. It doesn't matter if you are blood related or not to build a true family at all!

It's not just sappy romance. The plot and characters are all unique and interesting. I also like the narrators. So many book series lose my interest because they all start to sound alike but even with the ongoing storyline in this series I am not bored at all.

Not sure yet. Slight spoilers.
The first ten minutes start off well. Laura is determined to show Magni that she isn't the submissive wife that she had been before she left six months before. She promises her sensei that she won't let him control her the way he had before. This pleased me. I wanted her to stand her ground because I wanted to see Magni fight and work for her. (It's obvious he has a softer side from his interactions with little Milla and the other motlander girls)
She sees Magni from a distance at the Northmen parting ceremony and seems confident that she'll stand her ground when face to face with him. I believed this.
Then the earthquake happens. Magni takes her home and in the next ten minutes of the story, she completely dissapoints me by giving in to him and allowing him to punishe her for leaving him. And then gives in to him sexually. The sex scene was really hot, but maybe a little too soon. I'm not sure. I've read other books that slowly work up to scenes like this and fall short because of high expectations. I'm now concerned that because she gave in to him soo soon the other heated scenes between them will be mundane, and not very exciting as they already came together at the beginning of the story and let out all the sexual tension.
I'm only about thirty minutes into the book and I'm already annoyed. I never felt this way with the others. I enjoyed them from start to finish. I think because I was looking forward to this one more than the others that I was expecting a more exciting beginning. I was hoping Laura would stand her ground from the start by not giving in too soon and push Magni to bring on an exciting cat and mouse chase where he'd finally realise he'd met his match in a female. I can't see that happening now with how quickly she caved to his dominance.
One hour in. I'm starting to see Laura's backbone, speaking back to Magni and trying to stand her ground against his manly ways. Two things have slightly annoyed me, though. How can he not notice her changes body wise. Working out for six months, learning how to fight would obviously change her body. She'd be more toned. Yet, this isn't mentioned while his new scars are. Another thing is that while he slept, he dreamt of little Milla and murmured he loved her in his sleep. Despite him telling Laura who Milla is, she should have been upset by his sleeping confession. After all, he has never told Laura he loves her in all the years she's been his loyal, submissive wife. I feel her response to Milla and Magni's confession in sleep (despite the shock of Milla being a motlander girl in an experimental school in the morthlands) should have been stronger. Magni not showing his emotions or telling Laura how he feels for her is one of the reasons she left him. I expected her to think on this, but it was washed away with the knowledge of an experimental school.
So...when Laura and Magni finally go hand to hand fighting to see how good she is...it's completely skipped over. And she isn't that good Wtf. Another dissapointment.
I loved how Solomon stood up to Magni thinking Lauran needed protection. I think Magni knocking him out was a little too far, though. I'm kind of hoping Magni is Solomon's dad as they act alike and look alike. It's possible l. After all, Solomon was born in the motherlands and sent to the northlands like most Northmen boys and is at the age he could be related to Magni. It''d be a nice surprise as Milla isn't his biological child.
I'll continue to listen as the story is only just starting, but so far I'm not holding high hopes for it anymore. Maybe I looked forward to this one too much...Idk...but I'm feeling let down by it already and so early in. I really hope it gets better.
I'll update soon.
